Tessmann is already pulled in the 34' with Empoli up 1-0 in part of a tactical double-switch. This is not a good sign for Tessmann, but an even worse sign for the coach having utterly blown his initial tactics for this game. Busio was not one of the two players coming in. I guess he and Nani will get their chances later.
Yeah, there was no sign whatsoever of injury for him or the other guy pulled (Kiyine) so I take it as a case of Zanetti saying "oops" about the gameplan.
Tessmann was really struggling to get on the ball. I watched and he only had a handful of touches despite being a central midfielder.
About 2 minutes before the sub, Henry broke down the right side, to the 3-goal spot and pulled the ball back. He found Crnigol racing on to the ball from his right mid spot to a spot in the top left side of the box. To get to the position where he had a shot, Crnigol, from a good 15 or more meters behind and wide, raced by Tessermann, who was pretty much walking. It wasn't a tactical sub, it was a WTF are you doing out there sub. From his closer position, had he made the run, Tessmann would have been alone in the box with a bit of time, instead of Crnigol who got to the ball a quarter step, if not dead even, ahead of the defender. He was not playing well, not even kind of, and that's what a 34 minute sub always says (either that or injury).
yeah, agreed. He was pretty poor reading/controlling space and shape out there. Empoli were having a lot of joy deep in the middle of the park, where he should've been on top of things, but consistently wasn't. Not his best look today. and second game where Busio has started on the bench. I thought the last one was about giving him a rest- but without knowing more, two in a row is a bit of a cause for concern for me.
We should remember that Busio is 19. There are reasons not to play a 19 year old every outing. it could be as simple as their fitness metrics indicate the Busio needs a bit of a rest. I've yet to see one of their games in which he didn't look like a beacon of hope for Venice.it's going to be interesting to see if they go with Busio and Nani in those roles. that's a much more creative, flowing side. It also might be a bit shaky defensively, and this side will avoid relegation almost entirely based on being solid in defense.
The table shows that there are 5 teams at the bottom with GD about (minus) 20. serie a table - Search (bing.com) Hwvr, GA you have to go to position #9 before any team has substantially less than 35 GA. Venezia at position 18 has 37 GA GF are another story: The bottom 5 max out at 21 goals scored. Thereafter you see the GF climb pari passu with table standings. It seems that the opposite of your conclusion is the case: Venice need to score more goals. Ergo, Nani.
Even with Nani, they are not a great, or even a good, offensive unit. Using your approach, the clubs directly above them have scored 9 and 10 more goals thus far. Is Nani worth 10 goals in half a season? If he is, he's a complete steal. Meanwhile, if they begin to leak more goals, can Nani compensate for that? the evidence throughout his career is that he's a very nice player, but not the sort to dominate a league. Venice needs to add a few goals, this is true. Just as true, they cannot afford to give them up at a higher rate.

The good news for Tessman is that he is apparently not one of the ten Venezia players with COVID, as he in the starting lineup today. The bad news is that Venezia is visiting league leaders Inter, so it's going to be a tough assignment. Venezia actually took an unlikely lead and it's tied at 1 at halftime. Haven't been watching but Tessman currently has the third highest WhoScored rating among Venezia's field players (6.7).
Kiyine and Peretz replace Tessmann and Cuisance in midfield. The duo coming off put in excellent shifts, helping keep us in this match.66’ | Inter 1-1 Venezia#InterVenezia— Venezia FC (@VeneziaFC_EN) January 22, 2022 Tessman finished with a 7.0 WhoScored rating. Match still tied in the 84th minute. EDIT: An Inter goal for Džeko in the 90th minute.

Honestly looked better in this game than I've seen from him before, more involved and cleaner on the ball. If he can play like this regularly, he will be making nice progress. Really nice to see the improvement.
Yeah, but he's still waiting for the game to come to him far too often. The last touch in the highlight reels shows a disturbing trend. he doesn't think about what should come next. he should have been following the shot, and would have been in with a good chance at a rebound
Oh yeah, still needs to keep growing. I was just glad to see him getting on the ball a bit more and being positive with it. Too often I hear good things but then it looks like he's kind of on the edges of the game and not really getting involved. I thought this looked to be a step in the right direction. I hope more is to come and I like seeing the progress when it does happen.
True for that particular case but it doesn't show a disturbing trend because he is actually better at 'following up the play' than most players in the pool (i.e., thinking in terms of a series rather than a one off). His positioning is his forte, imo.
