    Nani will join Venezia....interesting move!

Thought it was a decent runout as a sub while Venezia pushed forward for a winner. He was deployed further upfield.

Hope he's back in the starting XI next time.

Odd comment as he came on from the announcer over here. His entry makes Venice less skilled but faster.
I mean, I'd suggest both notions are wrong

I'm not as confident in my belief that Venezia will stay up

Announcers on these streamed games are no different than papers/sites that rate players in matchers. Most show they haven’t watched, paid attention, or have a clue of which player is who. I’m guessing he saw American, and got his scribbled, handed to him by someone else, Tessman and Busio notes mixed up.

Was he not wanted at Orlando or did Venezia offer him something MLS couldn't turn down?

not sure...but im guessing he coudlve stayed in MLS if he wanted to...would be insane for an MLS team to turn him down if they care about winning.

Nani's contract ended and left on a free. Not knowing the ins and outs at Orlando, I'd guess that they couldn't agree to new contract terms with Nani, who's now 35 and was on $2.4M/yr last year. Perhaps he wanted something similar guaranteed for another 3 years, which would just be way too risky what with the team salary structure and all.

Hard to imagine Venezia is giving him anywhere close to that though NET of taxes.

Maybe they figured out a way to rent him for free the Venice equivalent of Kasey Keller castle... that would close the gap.

Probably both. Orlando wanting to get younger. Venice needing creativity now. FWIW, he had a huge impact on the game when he came on, direclty created the goal and a couple other best o the game chances. He also gave up the ball while trying to be who he is and created a bit of chaos, trouble for them as well, but that is Nani. Overall, he was a force for good.

TBF, the DAZN.de announcers I get here tend to know their soccer. This guy was an exception. The usual guy for Venezia games gushes over Busio. Maybe i got the empoli feed?

The most Orlando would have offered him would have been at a level below an MLS designated player for 2022, so $1.5m, and at 35 maybe a 1 plus 1 deal.
OTOH, you may be right. housing is cheap in Venice these days, what with the fact that the city is underwater a bit too often for most homeowners

I rarely watch these matches with the sound on. Usually working, 24/7 globally from home these days, and maybe it’s just that the times i do listen I don’t have the patience. Probably just me.

I think we are hearing the same DAZN commentators in Germany and would tend to agree with you that the usual guy for Venezia games is pretty OK. However the guy for this last game was both unintelligible (was that a French accent or was he that drunk?) and a wee bit "confused" (to put it nicely). Aside from some random DIY commentators I've heard on illegal streams of stadium feeds in the past, this was possibly the worst I've heard (and I used to watch a lot of MLS!).

I still prefer the German-language commentators since they generally STFU and let the game speak for itself, although they've gotten more frequently in the habit of having two people, and a lot of back-and-forth for the bigger games.

I really like the long silences during the commentary when it's a lone guy.
This guy was odd. I thought he was Italian and struggling a bit with English. But drunk is an option that has to be on the table.

Busio did not get a US callup for next week, because he is one of the ten Venezia players who reportedly caught COVID-19 this week.

Well if your Venezia and gonna have 10 players COVID positive and miss a game, this is one of the 2 or 3 games you’d choose

So COVID is why he was out for the US and for today’s match.

They need to keep testing players who recover from Covid for any incipient heart conditions long term, too.
