Air Force closed their search and are beginning the review this week. Do you think it would be easier to win at any of the military schools than others? Army over Navy or Air Force over Army etc. Specifically recruiting battles.

At the ECNL Florida event this weekend the Colorado State situation was being talked about by quite a few coaches. Supposedly one of the assistants left the program and might be part of whatever investigation is going on into the head coach. This was from a coach in that state. The only insight was that she persistently threatens her athletes and staff, tells her athletes how terrible they are, and has told the entire team they are all on the chopping block.

I was told this weekend that an assistant is choosing to leave Colorado State because the way Hagen runs her fearmongering program. I'm not too sure there's even an ongoing investigation by the Colorado State admin into their women's soccer program right now.

I've heard at CSU a bunch of the players were unhappy and several planning to leave. The local ECNL instate teams coaches were saying they are being cautious about sending their kids there now. If they lose the pipeline of local talent, will be more challenging to win long term if all have to pay out of state tuition costs.

Is this just normal new coach growing pains? Is she trying to raise the level of the program and that comes with the cost of players not fitting her more demanding culture?
It’s always uncomfortable for a coach to come in and raise the expectations…is this the old players not liking being rattled or is she truly ruining it?
Or do we not know and just hearing chatter? (Either way is fair. Just curious)

All the staff bios show the assistants came to Colorado state with her. The fact one is already leaving and may be a part of an investigation into the head coach suggests something is wrong. I would say based on what coaches in the state of Colorado were saying this past weekend that it is more than growing pains.

On a different note, some of the chatter in Florida was that there are some happy pac-12 coaches with the UCLA hire. General consensus was this is a massively under qualified hire and will help with competitive parity within the conference.

This horse is dead and adequately kicked. Let's get on with talking about the open positions.

No idea. It’s a state school so I could maybe find out. Coming from Texas she certainly didn’t have the greatest mentor.

has anyone heard if Milwaukee are appointing Golas as the head coach or going a different direction?

I don't know if you can say that her contract will be fully committed to, if Colorado State can find a way to say she breached the contract based on conduct. Then the remainder of the contract doesn't need to be bought out.
I also went on here a few times saying Kentucky wouldn't let Ian Carry go before his contract ended...and then they let him go before his contract ended. In this case either Kentucky bought out his remaining contract or relieved him of duties due to a breach of their agreement. Sometimes administrations can use grey areas such as integrity, student welfare, class, etc. which aren't exactly measurable and specifically defined but use that as cause for termination and breach of contract if there is something there.

UCLA - agreed underqualified hire, but it was low $ offered for that job. UCLA Associate AD Erin Adkins led the hiring on this so this is on her and also AD Martin Jarmond. That administration got what they deserve based on what they put out. Wishing Aozasa well as UCLA put her in a pretty tough spot. By the way, Jarmond only gave a one-year contract to his women's soccer coach hire at Boston College when he was recently there as the AD which was why a number of people turned that job down. Terrific academic school in the ACC and strong history at that program, but what AD offers a 1-year deal subject to annual renewal at a Power 5 school? So he has shown he doesn't know how to make women's soccer hires.

USC - Struggling to hire. Heard Dyche and McNeill were offered the job and turned it down. $ and cost of living definitely were reasons, but also facilities a big factor too. Can't even get training time in the spring due to lack of field space and competing with lacrosse. Unbelievable. Would have never thought a supposedly big time program like that struggles to provide field space and training times. It's been now 6 weeks since McAlpine left, that's not a good look for a hiring timeline and I don't see what their next steps are.

Heard OU investigation took longer than expected because of the holidays. Big meetings this week supposedly.

Ha Sure it did. What else did you hear? Why was there an investigation? I’m going to assume nothing happens.

He was out and about in FL this weekend as if nothing was going on. He seems to be (almost) universally unliked.

Exactly! Would an administration allow him to be out recruiting, knowing that they are going to be releasing him from a contract in the coming weeks. Doubtful. I foresee nothing changing. It’s not like the “review/investigation” will be made public either way. Still waiting on the Villanova story to come to light. Thought “All was going to be revealed”

Usually what happens is the school and coach part ways as amicably as possible. Neither wants a big public stink, the coach in order to get another job, the school for obvious reasons. If the coach doesn’t get another job, however, and the firing was unfair, that’s when the sparks fly. ie Boston College now.

One of the rules here, or courtesies, should be "have a take", don't just complain. Why take time to scold someone on a forum?? Everyone gets to just not read posts (like mine!) but someone only whining like @352formation makes people open the message thread and so its annoying.

Btw @cpthomas has 4,772 reps, or likes, of their posts here at BS while @352formation has a grand total of 8.

Potter finished at OU with 3-win and 7-win losing seasons. I just read in one of the papers about his KC hiring that they were questioning his lack of Professional coaching experience, although he's clearly worked with 'Elite' players as the USWNT u23 coach. Someone at US Soccer loves him for sure.

I agree it's getting late at USC. The longer it goes, you know they've restarted and maybe restarted their search again. Sometimes, re-advertising, or even advertising initially, beyond the HR mandates, is viewed as a bit embarrassing for these 'elite' schools. Lets see if they make an "elite" hire. I'm still hoping for a big name at USC!
