He’s too young to be appreciated. He needs to develop a lot more and then we can appreciate him (at whatever ceiling he has) as he refines.

He is in Spain. Not in England This is common there. If he wants to succeed in the middle of the park his touch has to get tighter, he has to make better decisions there. He would do better in England now, he could be much better in a year or so. Just the way it is. The Spanish really do teach, and expect their young players in a different way. I know we don’t appreciate:p that in the US.
We just want them to become those players without the work, and complain when our players can’t play like that,

No start for Musah in the YA match of the day, but he's one of the most prominent players on an abnormally thin bench, so decent chance for minutes.

Where are you seeing there’s a thin bench? I’m counting 12 players on their bench today.

I'm talking about the people on it. I think I've never seen 5-6 of them play, and I watch Valencia when Musah plays.

Looks like Musah is not going to play in this debacle.
    Valencia ahead 1-0
At around minute 85, Valencia's LB gets cramps and needs to be subbed.
An 18-year-old LB is called to come in.
Within a minute he picks up a yellow during a scuffle.
two minutes later the same 18-year-old is called for a foul inside his box, getting a red card and a penalty.
Espanol score and is now 1-1
At minute 90 they score again 2-1 espanol

I would hate to be this kid in the locker room.

I had some money on the game so I was super happy Espanyol had a big comeback. For 80 minutes it looked like Valencia had this in the bag. First road win of the season for Espanyol. My account thanks you! :D

I really thought this match screamed for Musah especially after the equalizer. They needed a little of stability on the ball but I guess the manager thought otherwise.

For the life of me it's hard to square his performances with the USMNT with his lack of playing time with, and poor performance of, Valencia. If they have 6 guys ahead of him, so be it, but it seems unlikely.

I agree with you. In the US set up he looks like one of the best midfielders we’ve seen in a long time. I truly can’t fathom how there are that many people ahead of him there. Does he speak Spanish well? Does he fit into the culture of the team? That may be more an issue for him than his talent?

He might be one of those types that plays the same whether it’s against easy vs. difficult competition. Opposite of players who play down if their competition is down. Or he really enjoys playing for the US.

Thanks. Brian do you get a sense of why he’s pretty much a non factor for Valencia other than the odd late sub and cup ties?

la liga is really good...the quality of play is so high. easy to underestimate how good it is.

technically and atheltically musah is very good but hes so young...even though he does well for usmnt with the tactics, i think he has a lot of room to grow tactically. (i think the usmnt tactics are pretty pedestrian)

i think it is his age and he will eventually be at a top champions league type team as he matures.

    hes still only 19

for perspective take a look at this article
    https://www.theguardian.com/footbal...0-of-the-best-young-talents-in-world-football

60 of the top u20 players in th world published a few months ago.

Malick Sanogo and Evan rotundo make the list...us eleigble players...but no musah lol....sanogo and rotundo are nowhere near making the full usmnt fwiw.

Strong on the ball, strong on the dribble, needs work with his passing, imo.

This isn’t true. Iranzo, the 18 year-old, did come in and get a quick yellow, but the penalty and second yellow were on Hugo Duro, not Iranzo.

Doesn’t change the fact that circumstances led to a change of plans from subbing on Musah, and doesn’t change that it was a crappy day for Valencia overall.

Musah played the first half in midfield instead of on the right wing but he's pushed forward more often in the second half (seems to be playing as one of two strikers at times but the formation is shifting).

FC Cartagena are a mid-table Segunda side who've looked up for the fight. Musah has been quite influential, drawing fouls/cards and creating danger off the dribble and through his passing. At times he could be a bit more precise but he has so much potential and is fun to watch.

wrote this elsewhere... and I think you're right, he did seem pushed higher in the 2nd half, more than as a traditional CMF
