Glad to see Reggie getting games again. I think when healthy he had the right back back up spot won but now has Yedlin in front of him and Scally trying to pass on the outside while Reynolds was not allowed to leave the paddock.

Reggie is, and has been a very solid option. Do we want better? Ofc course, but we could do a lot worse.

We have better. Dest, Scally, Yedlin are ahead of Cannon. I don't see room for him on the roster.

Nope. Not right now. The more guys playing and producing at a decent level though the better. Never can have enough for me.

Sure I agree with the sentiment. I don't think Cannon is very good however. And I'm glad we have better options.

No argument here. We have just come far, and fast. I’m not going to overlook that.

We have better, but Reggie has done alright in a Nats uni. Very reliable. High ceiling guys, prospects get all the love of course.
However, having solid meat and potato options across all positions is a true sign of a solid soccer program. I love seeing it, and look forward to seeing the depth chart fill in through 2026.

He's certainly a depth option. And he seems like a good dude, from the brief interviews I've seen. What's the story on why he's still in Portugal, but hasn't played much all season?

I “think” Boavista expected to sell him but it didn’t happen. There was a late failed move to N Forest I believe. I also think an injury got in the way. Someone else I’m sure will know better.
Oh yeah, the Lille owner owned Boa, and when he bailed it threw a monkey wrench into plans also.
Reggie seems to be a decent enough player caught in bad circumstances. .
If this had happened in MLS there would be the usual crowd out with pitchforks outraged while mocking the league. Since it’s happened in Europe it’s virtually ignored.

This sort of situation could never happen in MLS, but is a hallmark of the mid-tier Euro leagues with semi-corrupt institutions.

Starting vs Tondela, appears to be RWB again given the personnel.

Haven't been paying a ton of attention to Reggie and Boavista this season, but they tied this "battle of the middle" 1-1 on an 88 minute equalizer from De Santis. The shots were crazy. 18 to Boavista to 5 from Tondela. They are 11 and 12th respectively, rn. Cannon was beat for the Tondela goal, but he was also stranded on an outnumbered counter - but he bit too hard on the move. Shot beat the keeper near post so there's plenty of blame to go around.

He played the past couple of matches has the right CB in a defensive line of 3. Like last season we have prone injury CBs, so Cannon has to do his best in that role.

Nathan for the time being is the most obvious choice as a RB for most matches of the season due to his attacking skills. One of the best dribblers in this league, so Cannon will have it tough for a while.

Cannon was at fault for Tondela's goal and in the first half he gave too much space for a Tondela attacker that almost put it in the net.

Not his fault for playing in a role that is not natural for him ofc. His main problem will always be that once facing a league that doesn't give that much space as the portuguese one, he will struggle offensively. He's a classic RB with good positioning and anticipation. He also has decent crossing, but his dribbling skills...this is why he rarely shows up in the final third as a RB.

I know you guys love posting stats and all. He's decent, but he is not miles above the rest of the squad. Musa, Sebastian Pérez, Ilori, Makouta and Sauer are very clear to be Europa League quality, they are the first tier that commentators and fans give out compliments. Cannon has to work hard on his technical skills or leave to a team that makes use of his defensive strengths the best if he has any hope to upgrade his status.
In a 3-5-2, he is going to be left out of most matches if Nathan is available (although helpful against the big guns if we want to keep it tight in defense). After this amount of matches, it kinda also serve as a warning that if you don't leave the states very early on, you're likely to stagnate on your game and just be at best decent in a couple of matches. This is where hype doesn't help.

Cannon is 5th* out of 30 RBs in successful dribbles per 90.
The goal against shaped up more like a lightning counter in which Cannon had to essentially cover 2 positions.
    Starts at 2:41.

    * = minimum of 3 starts at RB
