It might be best for him to get back to as close to 100% as possible. Juve shouldn't need him until after the winter break with the current fixture list.
You must be thinking of the McDs next to the Spanish Steps. They also have localized menus, so you get gelato, etc.
Weston and Juve go through as the 1st place team in the group. Gives the Wes and his teammates more time to gel before playing one of the big boys. Unless they were to be drawn against PSG. But, Juve have won their group the last 2 years and "avoided the big teams" just to get knocked out by Lyon and Porto. So, who knows...but it does feel good to top the group.
They’re not going to do jack in the CL elimination rounds, and they’re in no position to take any league matches for granted. All hands on deck for the league, rotation squad for the CL would be the right move to rest players, if they need to.
I missed that one when I was in Rome last summer. But I was deathly sick in Barcelona once, and the only thing that sounded good and could hold down was the McPollo…and I hate fast food. Maybe it killed whatever I was infected with.
I think that's exactly the correct one. We had been at the Trevi Fountain directly beforehand, fighting the hordes of tourists with selfie sticks, then walked a few minutes to the Golden Arches so our friend could get his beloved Big Mac. He'd been a fantastic guide through the Viterbo region during the preceding days (grew up there, brought us to a couple amazing restaurants), so I was OK letting him indulge his questionable taste that day.
Depends what you consider "doing jack in the CL elimination rounds" means. Do they make the quarters? Outside of PSG, Juve matches up well with the others. Atletico? Tough, but Juve have a great record against them. Benfica, Sporting, Villareal, Salzburg? Juve would be the favorite to go through. Most importantly, a whole lot can change by the time mid-February rolls around. Wes could be with the Spurs for all we know.
Weston McKennie is back at Juventus training after missing the last three matches due to a knee injury. #USMNT https://t.co/1tPnzMjGn2— SBI Soccer (@SBISoccer) December 9, 2021 Wes back training with the team! good news
Massimiliano Allegri on Weston McKennie's unavailibility for Venezia clash: “McKennie trained partially with the rest of the team, but will resume training with the group next week." #USMNT— Larry Henry Jr (@lhenry019) December 11, 2021 Ironically, I used to play in a geezer league with a guy from Venice and a guy who played for the Clash, so that's cool.
Ha I thought band at first too. Woulda been a little cooler no offense to the other much more well known clash.
I did play against Steve Jones from the Sex Pistols once or twice however. He played in an LA Geezer league. Claimed I grabbed his nuts on a corner kick, I told him I never mind the bullocks. But I digress.
I can’t top that but my NYC club team played against Steve Nash once when he was still active in the NBA. Apparently he never subbed out or broke a sweat. It was funny because I heard ( one of the very few games I missed, go figure) nobody wanted to get to close to him risk injuring him. his appearance was supposed to be hush-hush as he wasn’t supposed to be engaging in such of the court activities. Going from memory a couple of the guys also played against Gio Savarese when he was playing for the Brooklyn Italians. I believe that was the team.
I talked to Supertramp bass player Dougie Thompson on the sideline of a youth game once! Sorry, just wanted to share that after your punk rock reference.
This is really derailing the thread, but since Wes is still just coming back, playing against Hollywood United was always pretty funny - the west side geezer league in general was often interesting. Anthony LaPaglia in goal (smoking a cig between saves) Jones, *Sir* Kenneth Brannaugh came out to kick one day. Some of the old Brits claimed Roger Daltry had a soccer field at his house in the Valley with a beer-can vending machine and he and Rod Stewart would hold invite-only games. But that was even before my time... Hope Wes gets back to game fitness before the mods delete my cool cred posts.
What is the name of this West-Side Geezer League and how do I weasel into it? Although, I probably teach all their kids, so it shouldn't be that hard.
My Dad’s local club, Grand Avenue Recreation Club (Grand Wrecks) was playing against the club from the Italian neighborhood (The Hill) when a big black car pulled up. Two guys in suits jumped out. They took off their jackets, rolled up their pant legs and put on their soccer shoes. Yogi Berra and Joe Garragiola then joined in and played the rest of the match.
I was playing wall ball once, and Ronaldo and Messi came strolling up asking if they could join. I declined, and they left.
Not sure it had a name. Played at Revere middle school, SaMo high, the airport fields a bit later. It was semi-organized, but if there were 2 games at the same time, it was likely at least one team could use a walk-on - which is what I usually did. Hollywood United has a bunch of different teams - they play Vegas geezer tournies every year, but usually in better divisions. fwiw.. Bad result for Juve today. Can't imagine that reflect poorly on Wes. Drop to 6 and either Roma and/or Lazio can catch them on points with a win tomorrow/Monday. Dybala injured, though I don't know for how long/how badly.
You should really stop being friends with this guy. If someone tried to drag me to a McDonald’s regularly—let alone while I’m in Italy—they would be excommunicated.
