The discussion here in Denmark, with the Danish NT coach very much agreeing, is that the Danish NT, unlike any other NT in the world, now (from youth level and up) personally and tactically are run more like a club team, unlike that of an NT that do not have that same personal interconnection and tactical understanding, and perhaps personally also do not even like each other that much, because they are kind of rivals, which is not how the Danish NT works. Here it's considered the most admirable honor just to be part of and selected for the NT and fellowship no matter what club you are playing for, and the common goal to work together as a "club team" unit for a common goal is undisputed. So "Denmark" now kind of consider themselves to be a "club" team and the players kind of pledge themselves more to their country than to their club team.
Utd never wanted him Athletic had a good article today delving into why this massive u-turn illustrates the lack of strategy at Man U Ole was supposedly a move based on performance culture and man management. But it's been obvious for ages that tactically he has been a failure, apart from some success as a countering team. But that doesn't work when you are a big team needing to win lots of games vs the minnows. Now that Tuchel reinforces the modern trends highlighted by Klopp and Pep - suddenly Utd go in a completely different direction to copy them. having effectively wasted 3 years on OGS They seem to be all in on finally snaring Poch in the summer.
Ragnicks time in Moscow didn't go so well, let's see what he does at United. IMO the internal rot there is going to make it tough for any manager.
To me it all makes no sense unless you also bring in young first team trainers like Maric who understand this stuff. The original sin at Utd was when Moyes fired Rene Meulensteen and his team, and replaced them with clowns Ole could even have worked, if he had hired modern first team coaches, instead of a team of inexperienced hangers on. A guy like Carrick hasn't earned his stripes, let alone the others.
I keep telling United fans that, for whatever reason, they underestimate the influence of the Fergie Old Guard/Class of 1992 on all things United. It's similar to other clubs mind you, Ajax, Real, Bayern the main difference is that at those clubs they have found actual football guys who know what the hell they're doing.
Yes exactly! I frequently mention the crusaders franchise here, which is riddled with old boys - but they do it the right way Old pros come in at junior levels for a few years, and are then sent out in to the wild to manage other sides. Then if they do well, they come back into the crusaders setup, and then eventually become head coaches But no one becomes a senior coach or trainer just because they used to play at the crusaders - you have to go and prove yourself elsewhere ... Like you say, the Class of 92 are a bad influence - see also Rio who expects to be given a senior role, despite having done nothing! This was my main beef with the Freddie appointment. He had done the youth thing, but he had not gone out into management and proved himself - an even weaker prospect than Lampard who was clearly nowhere near ready Maric and Rose have much more the pedigree I would want to see. If they fail at BVB then too bad. But if they do well, you could see them making the jump
There is a ton of entitlement with Former EPL club legends because in the UK the pundit class are damn near all former players they are ignorant of 90% of what makes a modern football club successful a real anti intellectual strain
watching brighton highlights, i can see why people wanted lamptey. (and why arteta wasn't.) if that back 3 + bissouma can hold the defending down, having lamptey + cucurella down the wing makes that attack so damn nasty. i know it's petty but, holy balls, watching maupay miss a sitter (auba-style ) and having an all-around miserable day is some good schadenfreude shit.
He missed a really open second one later but it was flagged offside so doesn't count as a missed shot. But was open in the box and hit it into Row Z.
I find it amazing that you can have 3 former Utd players, who are all Ole’s teammates, discussing his situation on Sky. No wonder he survived so long. Even now Keane is moaning about how the players failed Ole and Scholes is arguing that, at the same time, Utd’s talent is about as good as Chelsea’s so the new manager should succeed quickly (uhhhh).
RANT: reminded (again) how much Peacock sucks. Halfway through 1T of Chelski/Manure - and Peacock forces me to watch 2 mins of ads in the middle of play, then launches a tv show I’ve never watched before or have any interest to watch. The remote wasn’t in reach, and I’m 100% sure it was their doing.
Yeah the Wild West of streaming tech. We can only pray these are teething pains and that with another few years of experience they might work them out. Go see the TV forum, NBC thread (or any of the other streamers) to hear similar gripes from many, including yours truly.
Good point about the other thread. I rarely use Peacock since it's so bad. Every time I use it I'm reminded how truly awful it is. NBC/Universal doesn't seem to be investing/improving it whatsoever.
In actual "other teams" news, that Chelski v. ManUre match was a joke. Final is 1-1. ManU gifted a breakaway goal off a poor touch by Jorghino, then Jorghino converts a soft PK to tie it up. And Mendy almost gifted ManUre the winner when played an outlet pass straight to an unmarked Fred ~25 yards out. But Fred tried to chip Mendy, but made a poor effort of it, and it's easily saved. Overall, Chelski dominated in every part of the match, but they had little end product. ManU brought nothing to this match that gives me concern. On current form, I like our chances playing them later this week. I'm not over-confident about our chances, but they simply aren't a good team right now.
I didn’t watch the match closely, but I kept an eye on it. Seemed that Chelsea missed a few sitters including right at the end by Rüdiger. My impression is that United is very very lucky to come out of there with a point. Hopefully we’ll face a similarly impotent and porous team on Thursday.
United had three shots and two of them came on mistakes by Chelsea. The goal came on a counter off a Chelsea corner kick (1 of 15 corners) when Jorginho miscontrolled a clearance and Sancho went flying by him and slotted home. The other shot on target occurred when Mendy played a pass directly to Fred and Fred tried unsuccessfully to chip him.
they don't have anywhere near the talent chelsea had when tuchel took over but they do have a lot of talent, especially in attack. enough that they should not be struggling like they were.
