Send out copies of Araujo's last match. That should cool some jets to the idea of buying him. Let's get another year out of him before he's gone. I don't buy the "oh we're gonna ruin him forever" thinking going around.
I'm speculating here but I think any team better than a bottom of the table EPL team would only be interested in Araujo for his upside, not for his current playing abilities. He is still very rough in terms of technique and tactical awareness but he has a combination of quickness and overall athleticism that is an outlier in MLS. Athleticism can't be taught so the best teams want to scoop up such prospects. If a good Euro team signed him it would be because they can do so on the cheap (by their standards) and then loan him out and hope he develops into a player who can contribute to their first team in 2 or 3 years.
According to Guesman, end of current contracts (NOT counting options) : 2021 : Jona, Vazquez. 2022 : Chicharito, Bond, Steres, Derrick Williams, Pipo Gonzalez. 2023 : Lletget, Grandsir, Alvarez, Raveloson, Coulibaly (I'm not sure on Séga, I'll ask more clarification). 2025 : Araujo, Cabral.
IMO the biggest selling point on Araujo outside of his natural athleticism is his growth from year to year. Last year when he was playing his end product was worse than it was this year, and he made a lot of bone headed mistakes and would pick up stupid yellows. Compare that to this year, where his end product improved (still a lot of room for improvement, but noticeably better), and he’s made a lot less stupid mistakes. I think a lot of the mistakes he’s made this year are more down to how far forward he gets and the gaps he leaves behind. That’s not necessarily his fault, but of a tactical risk that Vanney took. Any team looking at him will see an top tier athlete who has improved year after year. The best thing Cabral has done this season was allow us to give Julian a fat contract so he might not be a huge rush to leave and can afford to wait for an option in Europe that suits him.
List of MLS free agents : https://mlsplayers.org/news/free-agency-list-released JDS and Kljestan are out of contract. Fisher, Acosta and Steres have options. Vazquez doesn't meet free agency but his contract also ends next month. And to correct my post above, Séga Coulibaly is indeed signed through 2022, not 2023.
Will Trapp was once a promising DM that might be out of contract if his option is not picked up. Old man Alonso Osvaldo is out of contract. He's exactly the type of player we need (if it was the 2-5 years ago version.) Can't pretend to know the league as well as I used to in order to pick out any good prospects off that list. Maybe Vanney sees some cheap treasure in there that can help us at defensive mid or outside back. I like the idea of Rayan R. moving up the field into the box to box role and finding a reliable defense first midfielder.
Looking at the list of FAs, and I’m not convinced anyone in it makes this squad better. If Acosta’s option isn’t picked up, I would consider it. Other than that Rusnak and Maxi (NYCFC) are two midfielders who drew my eye but I’m assuming Rusnak is expensive and Maxi has to be well into his 30s.
REVISION 3, actually. Double-checked the roster against my list. Made some additions. Have Aguirre added to the list. we're getting there. Slowly.#LAGalaxy #MLS pic.twitter.com/1vwaExqmtF— Corner Of The Galaxy (@GalaxyPodcast) November 11, 2021
This site has a good list as well of whose contracts end https://www.transfermarkt.us/los-angeles-galaxy/vertragsende/verein/1061 According to it Bond and Zubak are only for this season. So if we intend to keep them we need to resign them. In the last game thread I made a list of what I think are the main needs for the team. I will sum it up here. We need 7 major signings,... 2 fullbacks to that don't suck incase Araujo and Villafana are not available. 2 midfielders. One needs to be a CAM that is DP level since Sacha and Vasquez are both to old to go 90 consistently. The other needs to be a True number 6 Center Defensive Midfielder. We need a Dema Kovalenko/Perry Kitchen/Nigel de Jong type. They are not here to get goals they are here to stop the guys from cutting into the backline by any means necessary and as few yellow cards as humanly possible. We are good one number 8 style guys with Llegett and Raveloson. We need a 10 and a 6 STAT!!! 2 forwards. Both need to be solid but one should be good enough to fight for the starting job. Keep Cabral in the midfield and make DeJan the main strike partner for Javier. And number 1 is a longer term contract for Jonathan Goldfingers Bond. We can not let this dude walk. Lock him up for at least 2 years and an option. Depending on who is available, we would sincerely be a few signings away from Cup contention for real. I am excited about the prospects. I want to look back on this season as the year we finally turned the corner.
I mean...Araujo lead our team in assists this year. He assisted more than Vasquez, Cabral, JDS, Lletget, Kjlestan and Alvarez. He was 4th in key passes. Granted, he played a lot more minutes than some of those guys, but he was hands-down MOTM candidate in some matches (away to LAFC, home against Portland).
There is only one way, in my view, to get rid of Klein; when it comes time to renew season seats about 3 - 4 thousand current holders need to tell their rep that as long as Klein is employed by the Galaxy you have spent the last money you will spend on this team.
MLS announces Expansion Draft parameters:-Dec 14-Teams can protect 12 players (HGs under 25 + generation Adidas auto-protected and don't take slots)-RBNY, San Jose, Nashville, Galaxy, Orlando exemptGonna be a lot of interesting options for Charlotte FC to select five from.— Tom Bogert (@tombogert) November 19, 2021 proof we won’t lose a player in expansion draft this year.
Be prepared for the possibility of another reunion between Vanney and a former Toronto FC player. According to SportsNet, Jozy Altidore is set to become a free agent.
I didn't look that closely, but Altidore makes JDS look healthy. He missed over half the season in 2021 and a big chunk of games in 2020. And its not like he produced at a 2021 Chicharito level when he was available.
Done deal!
Am I wrong or have we not, almost 11 days post the conclusion of our season, had any "exit interviews" of key people in our team and organization. There is always a "clean out your locker" sort of day that has a lot of media. I want to hear from Klein on how he defends himself. I want the hear what Greg Vanney thinks was missing and he will look to add. I want to hear from all the players under contract next year. Post game interviews after losing to minnesota are not what I'm talking about. Did I miss it?
Hmmm. What's everyone's thoughts on this one? The consensus seems to be that he did pretty well getting the youth pipeline in order, but it was never clear to me personally where his reach began and ended with the first team. He was probably a big part of us landing Chicharito and Antuna, but beyond that it seemed both GBS and Vanney leaned a lot on their own connections to build the first team roster.
I remember hearing that the team was returning last Thursday after being given some days off. But don't remember anything about exit interviews.
Whatever happened with Te Kloese and Galaxy is done. No crying over spilled milk but I want a GM. Somebody with the same type of background that Dennis has. I dont want to see some minion get promoted to his role, rubber-stamping whatever Klein and Vanney say. No bush-league moves here. Be professional about it GALAXY! And do this....quickly! You have a lot of crap to sort out.
