I thought we could have a general discussion thread for those of us that want to talk about the tournament and different teams, upsets along the way, and how our predictions are going.

I had Lipscomb beating Tenn. but that apparently didn’t go my way in the first round…

Duke gets the last minute win over Old Dominion. Not gonna lie, I was a bit excited for an upset, even if deep down I knew Duke would pull it off.

Being in the same bracket as Duke, I would have appreciated the upset… oh well! :D

I was impressed with Virginia Tech tonight. If they would of been more clinical in front of goal that game would of been ugly.

Alabama beating Clemson was a major surprise—bama’s first ever NCAA win, I believe. And Auburn’s loss was a major upset.

St. Louis with the upset over Ole Miss 2-1. Rough night for the SEC

Yup I was about to referee that. Great result for a quality St Louis program but I thought the big dog would win.

That's a surprising result. The NCAA lady who did her bracket for the website had Ole Miss beating Rutgers in the Round of 32 so someone over there will be disappointed. It'll be an interesting matchup against St. Louis as long as Rutgers gets by Bucknell. I think this was St. Louis's first top-100 RPI win this season.

Well i guess the bright side is you don’t have to worry about being on Dukes side of the bracket now

Welp, I’m done with the tournament, good luck to the other teams.:cry:

My focus goes into NWSL ACFC

Good luck to Mia Fishel in starting her professional career.

Ironic talking about Fishel on a night you failed to score, but OK.

A terrible night for seeds in the top right bracket. 2 lose in major upsets and 1 brutal performance. Duke, at least, advanced and will have a chance to get better. 2 subpar performances in a row at the time of year you are supposed to be hitting your stride is a bit of a concern. That said, credit to ODU for helping them to play poorly.

This was her last UCLA game as she’s stated she is going pro after this season. She was good for us during this entire season so I wanted to hold onto something positive and wish her luck in her future with NWSL or wherever she decides to play.

yeah so much to matching up with a strong east coast side. Unfortunately, this game was the worst I’ve seen UCLA play in my whole entire life. Luckily, this is an outlier.

I had my pick for St Louis but switched for Old Miss right before I submitted. ☹️

I don’t either. I think we had Jessie Fleming as a Bruin for 4 years? We were very lucky. Every forward we recruit now wants to play for 2 years only then go directly pro. It’s not always a success and I would have liked Mia Fishel to remain a Bruin for at least one more year.

Define success. Leaving early when your stock is hot vs staying in college and risking your stock falling is perceived a bigger risk. Also there is a danger you protect yourself vs injury, consciously or otherwise.

I dont know the financial side of the decision, but im sure LA team looking for local talent etc. If your measure is be a great professional, in theory the earlier you start the better if you think coaching, facilities and standards are better then why not?

Personally, I dont think the NWSL has time to do much development, so from a sporting PoV only, i would not advise any player to leave College unless they felt they were ready to be a starting calibre player from day one in the NWSL.

I watched the Duke game. They're fine. ODU are too good to be given a #1 seed, and Duke's reward for a #1 shouldn't have been a team as good as ODU. Just a bad draw for both IMO. With better finishing, Duke could've had the 3-0 scoreline they deserved, but credit to ODU.

Well Fishel’s stock just went down fast. She’ll be lucky if any NWSL team wants her now. She should be embarrassed that she can’t even score against UCI when it matters.

Right? If you can't figure out how to break down the UC Irvine defense how in the hell are you going to against the best defenders in the world? STAY IN SCHOOL KIDS!
