Coaches don't like Quinn Sullivan for some reason. He's one of the most talented players on his teams, but he's relegated to being a bench player, still.
Maybe in another day this would have been a closed door match. Yeah, it's ugly but we all know this team is better than what they've shown.
Gutierrez has had some nice moments. Dont know if Sanogo has touched the ball since he came on. Walls and Leyva has been very poor. And as I'm typing this Walls makes a horrendous tackle on the edge of the box. He's been shocking
That challenge by Walls wouldn’t have been called a foul earlier in the game. Now it is. That’s what players dislike the most, a referee that can’t establish consistency. Call it tight or don’t. Don’t change your mind every challenge.
Have the American trainers been called on the field even once? Feels like the Brazilians are hurt every contact.
The back line has been extremely unorganized, the midfield has been soft, the attack has been disjointed but you can see the individual quality in some of the players Paxten Aaronson, Caden Clark, Caleb Wiley, and Jack McGlynn all impressed me Dante Sealy and Jalen Neal did okay but didn’t do anything necessarily well but you can see that they are at the level Justin Che has shown tonight that he really is not a right back, it also does not help when he gets left on an island by his winger and thus in turn leaves his center back on an island and they got exposed Casey Walls and Danny Leyva really stick out as guys behind the others among the starting lineup. They stuck out in a very negative way Cade Cowell needs to develop his ability to do more than play vertical with the ball. His ability to combine and play in tight spaces is still behind the others but he still has a good amount of potential. But he has to show that he can bring the soccer along with the freak athlete
I don’t think we have a 24. Actually, it’s Walls. Surprised the starting LCB has the last number on the team.
Leyva with header from a corner, but not powerful enough. Keeper made it look more difficult than it was.
Tale of two sides. Brazil played anti-Brazil stereotype. They made the easy play, played very safe, mechanical and simply waited for us to make a mistake. Did not try to force us into it. We obliged. Whether it's an overaggressive scheme, or to my mind, fullbacks that simply were not ready to get back, both goals I saw and a few other chances were from getting behind a fullback who was frankly a bit lazy/unfocused about getting back. Perhaps something was different on the first 24 ... but the CBs largely weren't at fault and the CMs were bad at covering trailers but not necessarily too slow or anything. Offensively, everyone in the first group was trying to score on every pass. So hyper aggressive. The second team looked much better because they took a lot more easy passes and got a rhythm. Where Brazil simply played smart and let us screw up -- and then drove it home -- we tried to force it constantly and got nowhere. The last piece at least in part because none of these guys have played together, I'm sure. Tough to tell how much is lack of cohesion and how much is lack of skill. But when it is guys who generally have it in a club setting, you tend to think the former.
For next match: retain as starter - Neal, McGlynn, Slonina positional switches if retain - Clark (cm), Cowell (cf), Aaronson (w) add - Gutierrez, Sullivan, Edelman, Henry ? - Sanogo (probably add, rotate Cowell anyway), Sealy, Wiley, Che, Pukstas drop - Leyva, Walls Too bad we couldn't have these debuts and lessons earlier in the cycle to be prepared for this.
Early Revelations from Revelations Cup: 1 - Naciemiento can play stoned. 2 - Cowell hasn’t started the transition from accessory player to featured player 3 - The Aaronson’s come ready to roll no matter what the context. 4 - Sealy earned an obvious penalty when he turned those two defenders into a three stooges episode. 5 - Caden Cl..who? 6 - there are a lot of guys named Justin Che on our team. 7 - Brazil’s keeper looks like the Brazilian Kyle Rittenhouse (literally physically looks like him) and we looked like the Kenosha Prosecution team; unprepared and contextually unaware. 8 - Glad we’re playing in cow pastures to get us prepped for CONCACAF 9 - Our shape was best defined as asymmetrical chaotic 10 - The coach has his work cut out this weekend.
