I concur. I only saw the last 20 min and he seemed to be playing more reactionary to the play instead of anticipating where the ball was going to go. To me, that is a sign of a player that is playing tired. He also seemed to be stretching a lot. I wonder if he was concern with tightinh up.

Was he playing as a 6 today? I'm glad they're giving him opportunities in the center, but I don't think that role is ideal for him either.
Yeah, I only caught the end there, so I'm realizing now that they subbed out their 6 right after Barcelona scored their third goal, and Musah moved back there for the last 5 minutes of the game, but he had been playing more advanced prior to that.
This had all the hallmarks of a Musah performance. Mouthwatering skill, strength, and balance with the ball at his feet, maddeningly lackadaisical on defense and with some of his passes.
Which is why I'm not at all mad at Musah as an option in a three-man midfield with Adams and McKennie.
He passes against Barca as if they were the Arsenal Academy and pays for it. Hwvr, I believe that may have been his first start when the manager didn't put him wide right in a 442. i.o,w, needs more time/reps to orient himself. I think he is one who will improve his club play fairly quickly with more experience internationally.Reason? New horizons, new thinking. I'm looking forward to getting him more minutes v. Mexico and Jamaica then seeing how he plays with club when he returns from the Nov window. The only caveat is having to play with McKennie which could give him the wrong impression, bad habits, low expectations....(sticks head in Pandora's box to see if he missed anything.)
I gotta give a pass to an 18 year old throw in at the end of a game against a team like Barca at Barca. I always hated getting thrown in game last 20 minutes. I can only imagine the challenge in one of the top 2 leagues in the world....the pace of play after you've been sitting on bench for 1 1/2 half. Yeah, he's a professional, but really, really young still. I saw some great flashes of his ability.....but also the kind of passes you make when your head is not totally in the game. On the goal- it was a weird play but think the 2 near term defender to Dest deserve more of the criticism...perhaps a lot more. They totally fell asleep. Musah was somewhat trailing the play and his line of vision. But still, he has to do better
I agree. If he improves his preparedness when defending, he could be a highly sought out player by the world's top 10 teams.
In La Liga: Valencia - Mallorca kicking off at 8am EST. - Yunus Musah on the bench for Valencia- Matthew Hoppe not on the matchday roster for Mallorca #USMNT— Brian Sciaretta (@BrianSciaretta) October 23, 2021
Fifth sub. No Musah. Valencia have been trash and Musah hasn’t played much past few games… smell a correlation
