INAC run out uncomfortable 1-0 winners. Seriously, Nojima probably should have stolen a draw. That would have been hilarious because they did not deserve a draw. And I am a Nojima fan.

I think they do not need to play Lopes all the time. Kitano is trying formations and combinations in defence and midfield, so it might be time to try something different up front. She is actually getting better, but she is so predictable and at times her touch is terrible.

I remember three seasons ago when Nojima played fun, attractive football, but now it is so ugly. I get it they do not have the talent they once had which will hopefully be developed, but it is tough to watch.

Nishigori along with Nojima battled hard all day. Ishida, once she moved to midfield was very good, but she has to want the ball more. Ohga is a very good defender and deserves her recall to the national training camp.

INAC in the second half really took their foot off the gas. I think that is connected to Narumiya being taken off. They looked really good with Miki Itoh, Narumiya and Nakajima in central midfield. Sugita played as a left back, which given how often she was beaten by Kinoshita last week they might want to think about finding a left back. I am not sure what has happened to Ushijima.

Lastly, why are they not playing Moriya as a starting member? She is such a good player. If she wants to move to Nojima at the end of the season we will take her.

Kitagawa hits the post for Niigata...Sendai are the better team but Niigata have had some opportunities on goal.

Ikejiri gets her second goal to make is 3-0 for Sendai. Niigata are making way too many mistakes at the back. It's a shame because they don't look bad going forward.

This time Michigami hits the post for Niigata... GK Matsumoto is down and will be taken off the field after getting kicked in the face during the scramble afterwards. I think her nose is bleeding.

Game ends 3-0 for Sendai. It was an entertaining game despite the scoreline. Sendai were better and probably deserved the win but it could've ended 2-2 or even 2-1 for Niigata if they were more clinical and didn't make unforced errors at the back. Both teams play entertaining football. Niigata were great on the counter but you can't play counterattacking football and win when your defense keeps getting themselves in trouble. Though I guess one of their center-backs were subbed off due to injury.

Michigami is a monster physically and a good performance again by Kitagawa. Miyazawa probably woman of the match imo.

Sendai climb to second on the table but they've played one more game than Urawa in 3rd.

Worth noting all coaches of teams that are in the top 3 now have experience coaching Beleza in the past.

Honestly, the Ange Violet Hiroshima we've seen in the second half of the league looked somehow like a different team compared to the one from before the break (their second incarnation has been able to actually make points!). Also, they had something more to fight for than a mere fith place, because a win could have given them an unexpected final advantage over other teams in the relegation brawl, so their motivation should have been quite high.

All this to say that the match had the potential to be way more difficult for Ehime than it could look on paper, thus I am no really surprised that they only won it by 0-1 and scoring in injury time, and this is independent from any possible weaknesses from the orange team. :coffee:

Ruka Norimatsu (Omiya Ardija Ventus) has been called into NT camp. JFA hasn't announced who's she's replacing but maybe it's Matsubara considering she didn't play against INAC.

Edit: I was right. Nojima announced that Matsubara is injured

Well, it was quite some time since Mayu Ikejiri didn't come back to her old scoring habits.

At some time she had even been called in NT, but it looks like her stint in Korean League didn't do well to her chances...

It's quite interesting that there are now 5 teams (almost half of WE League) sitting at 5 points (although just one of them have played 6 matches and the other ones just 5), so they're all just separated by the goal difference.

Thus Nojima, having the best (or less worse) goal difference of them all, are now basically at 6th-place, despite having scored just one goal in the league!

To be fair to Nojima they have played INAC, Urawa and Sendai so far this season, so really they have not done too badly given the teams they have played.

But I still think they will finish in the bottom three. I think Elfen will probably be the weakest team this season, but they could prove me wrong. All I want from Nojima is some free-flowing attacking football against some of the weaker teams.

Can't believe she's now 31! Seems like yesterday when she was a young but already tough 20 yo and was converting the winning PK of WWC 2011! :notworthy:

I could be wrong, but in my files I counted 19 goals from Asuka Nishikawa, and not 18. Could you have possibly forgetten to factor in one of her braces? :cautious:

I didn't count her last goal, sorry, but yes, she has 19 goals in 22 games, not bad for a player of a team can't promote :p

By the way, it came to my mind that by refusing to incorporate Iga (whose change of name by adding "Mie" shows that they were probably intentioned to ask admission to WE League since last year), the league will be stuck to 11 teams next year also, forcing one team each match-day to rest, that's quite sub-optimal in my opinion...

I am watching highlights of some matches I missed this week-end and I happened to notice the last action from INAC-Nojima's ones (see below): is really Lopez always as slow and unaccurate as seen there? o_O I can understand your comments about her, @pierre bezukhov: what's the point of having a player on the pitch that's a giantess compared to her Japanese counterparts, when her athleticism and technique are so questionable?

On the other hand, I guess that, if we'd still had on line the "Goal of the Week" competition, Akari Shiraki's goal would win hands down for this week, both for the beautiful action (look at the passes lading to it, look at how Ikejiri, who later scored both of her goals just from awkward Albi's defense's rebounds, takes away a DF deep in the box with her thus freeing Shikari for the shot) and for the perfectly curled finishing. :notworthy:
Albirex have been unlucky by hitting the wood twice, but Sendai would have deserved the win even for that masterpiece-goal only.

You may be right, but you have not seen Saihara's one yet. You might change your opinion.:D

By the way, Urawa's coach and Sugasawa said after the game, "we didn't think at all we lose this game." You must pay for your arrogance.

Ikeda's comments on first day of camp

    https://www.jfa.jp/nadeshikojapan/news/00028141/

"Today at our first meeting before we got out on the pitch, I told the players that we are going to create the future of this team together. We watched past videos of Nadeshiko Japan to look at what the players before us have built and reaffirmed that we had to contribute by building upon their legacy. This group has many talented individuals, each with their own strengths so I wan't them to show what they can do on the pitch. On top of that I want to build a team that has the ability to heighten each other's performances.

We had players who played games on the weekend so we focused on recovery today. Everyone seemed to be in a good mood. It was the first day of our first camp so we focused on building a good atmosphere around the team. We did lightly go over directional possession to show that an attack has to have direction but it was more for the players to have an image of where to look when possessing in attack rather than to apply a tactic.

We do have a training match scheduled during this short camp. For now, rather than going through the details of what we are doing in attack and defense, I would like to give the team an idea of what kind of football we want to play and the over all concept for the team. When we look around the world, we can say the same thing on the mens side but defending with a high press is become increasingly common. As a team that aims to play through that pressure, we have to work on our strength more. In defense I want to increase the times we take the ball and also do that high up the pitch. Of course in football, decisions that individual players make are very important so I do not plan on taking away from that. But I do think it would help the players to have common understanding if we have a specific concept on how we want to play so each player can go back to that and see if their own decisions are aligned with what the team aims to do.

I do feel the pressure of taking the job and it responsibilities but I'm also excited making history with this team. The players seemed very focused during the meeting and of course there is a tense atmosphere but I think we are all glad that we can finally start."

I think the part I entered in Bold letters is the main difference between Ikeda and Takakura. Takakura valued individual decisions so much that she would hesitate to give the team a concept. She thought it would hinder the players' creativity but her way of coaching led to a very disjointed team that didn't really know what they were trying to do. Ikeda seems to want the team to play to a certain shape.

"Second day of camp. First real day of training. We're far from seeing the complete picture but the 4v2 exercise while requiring players decide sidewards or forwards quickly, gives us a general idea. Ikeda involving himself in training by showing players an example or feeding balls himself are some of the scenes we didn't see under the last coach."
