Terrible defending, but that is an exceptional header.

Maybe, just maybe, he has a future in the first team.

The goal was so good, that I thought it was Haaland that scored it.

Really hope this kid doesn't spend another year in the reserves, hopefully he can get a loan to a 2.Bundesliga side

I remember asking around after his two U-20 call-ups. He didn't perform well, according to several accounts. When I asked why, they said his footspeed is just very, very slow. I've never really seen him play but that is just what I've been told.

The slow speed is not something that can improve but there are ways you can read the game and compensate for it. I think it'll prevent him from getting to a very high level, but maybe he can get pretty far.

On the other hand, everyone I spoke to said Maloney is like the nicest guy in the world. When I interviewed him, that was the truth. He's a great guy. You can't help but pull for him.

Is he really not good enough to play in the Bundesliga?

I don't like the vagueness of 'for the time being,' but I'll accept this promotion as rewarding positive performance.

You should. We all should. Football is an unsentimental business and if he's being kept around with the first team it's because the new coach sees something in him.

The odds are still very much against him making it to the BVB first team for any length of time, but he clearly has at least some qualities that a run-of-the-mill 3 Liga defender whose only purpose is to provide a platform for the Fatis of this world to rise on doesn't have.

If they see him as an asset to be developed and sold to the likes of Augsburg, that's great for the lad

Well, there's no better place than Dortmund to be mentored on makibg up for speed deficiencies as a CB. Hummels is the GOAT of maximizing a career while being a very slow CB.

    Started & went 65' in a 2-0 win:

That puts them at the top of 3.Liga (at least for the day).

He's on the bench for a Bundesliga match! Anyone know if this is the first time?

No one was watching this? Maloney subbed on the 88th for Mats Hummels - Bundesliga debut!

Played as the left back on a three man backline. Did a fine job of the time-wasting passing as Bielefeld looked too gassed to really chase Dortmund down by then. Not much to praise or critique, but interesting that Dortmund wanted to give him a debut.
