I'm just going to say it, Cuti Romero is amazing. We've had several good CB in the last 20 years, mostly guys who were up n down, but haven't had a guy like this since (here comes the hot take) El Ratón.

Before everyone freaks out that I committed sacrilege, let me say that he gives me confidence that he won't get beat by speed, tactics or won't be muscled out of position. I can't believe he is only 23 and plays with such poise and confidence.

Like Messi said, Dibu is one of the best goalkeepers in the world (Uruguay should've had 2-3 goals in the first half) and we haven't had a top GK in ages, but Cuti Romero and Emi Martinez is the entire story.

In terms of squad depth, I feel that out of all the positions, I think ST and CB have question marks.

For CB, not sure what made Scaloni picked Medina over Quarta or Lisandro all of a sudden, but better than Pezzella imo. For ST, besides Lautaro, not sure who the best sub would be, I would personally go for Alvarez as I think Scaloni likes mobile, hard working strikers.

Vs Peru, I hope one of Quarta, Lisandro or Medina starts and that Alvarez starts alongside Messi as well in a pressured game. I still have confidence even with those two changes, the NT can beat Peru.

Also, would like to see Palacios given a start as De Paul is one yellow away from suspension and we absolute need him for November.

The central forward place, technically should be Icardi or Dybala, but for countless reasons, thats never the case under Scaloni. Dybala has played many times, but only as late sub or only played in training session. The one time Icardi finally gets a call, he suffered minor injury.

Other than Lautaro, I just dont trust the other guys we have now. As a sub yes but not as starter.

But since the WC this time is at the end of the year, there's still plenty of time for those two to finally gets a proper playing time.

There is always a time in the qualifiers when a team like Argentina needs to experiment with the lineup, and see if the weak spots can be addressed. This happens once the team has almost qualified, or its inevitable. I think we are close enough to that point that shifting the starting XI a little bit would help.

Other than Cuti, the entire backline can be experimented with; we are still getting attacked from the wings, and Otamendi is "shaky" -

I am very bullish on Lisandro and I think with a GK like Emi, it would be a great fit.

No sure what to do about defending on the wings (Left side or Right side). We've tried Acuna, Tagliafico, Montiel and Molina. All had limited success, but none have locked down the starting role.

nah you are wrong about that. Acuna is or should be a lock. For whatever reason people think Taglafico is more reliable defensively but that is just a myth he makes a lot of mistakes and his positioning was horrible vs uruguay. I think he was the worst performer. Acuna on the other hand is constant work rate doing it on both ends of the field not sure what more you can ask even prime Alves had some defensive lapses that just comes with the territory when you contribute so much in offence.

Guys, watch Julian Alvarez here. Amazing play on defence and pass to start the counter attack. Let's get this guy more time. I really hope the guy can finish too. We desperately need a clinical Lautaro replacement (cough Icardi).

I admit that I've been very bullish on Tagliafico and Acuna has been a very nice revelation. I'm about 60%-40% in favor of Acuna at this point, but he hasn't won the spot yet. November could be a very interesting for the players defending on the wings; we have Uruguay and Brazil .

"Argentina nos tiene miedo, ellos han tenido inconvenientes siempre que han jugado contra nuestra selección", aseguró, sin ponerse colorado, el ex delantero de la selección peruana Oswaldo Ramírez. "El último partido que jugamos allá contra ellos merecimos ganar y en la última jugada del partido nos pudimos llevar el triunfo"

LOL, cancel what I said of playing other players. Play the best team and hope we do a goleada :D

In the last four South American World Cup qualifying editions, it took the following points to reach a play off spot:
    2006 (25 points)
    2010 (24 points)
    2014 (25 points)
    2018 (26 points).

We are currently on 22 points with 7 (8, counting Brazil match from September) left.

Let’s get to 27 points and we can experiment as much as we want.

Seems to be easier this time since all teams below keeps dropping points. So many draw results from other teams which makes it easier for us and Brazil.

The close schedules of the qualifier this time also benifits our team chemistry. We've played so many games this year alone and they're all competitive matches.

It is important we can continue to win out our games because we want to be seeded at the World Cup. Remember, Qatar and the top 7 in FIFA’s April ranking will get the top spots.

Aguero scored in his debut for Barca. He looked bored throughout. After the goal he was like.. whatever

Looks like Acuña and Di Maria are expected to replace Tagliafico and Nico Gonzalez, respectively, vs. Peru...

The third possible change is Montiel for Nahuel Molina, although Scaloni seems divided on this one.

Not happy about Di Maria starting. He is very useful as a sub against tired legs, and should only start against stronger teams that we can counter attack against.

Montiel should get the start and give Molina a rest. I hope we get a 1-0 or 2-0 lead and then Foyth gets some minutes to reward him for his good form at Villareal.

Perhaps Alario or Dybala can get some minutes at CF as Lautaro's sub.

Quite surprising that Di Maria will start, but I think there's possibility that Peru will attack because they still have chance to be in top 5 .

If Peru sit back and counter , I think Di Maria will be replaced in second half. We know how Di Maria would play if opponent sit back with 6-7 players crammed in their box.

My prediction , Peru will commit lots of fouls and there will be lots of pause like against Paraguay. They know the only way to stop us is by disrupting our rhythm with plenty of fouls.

Yeah, agree. Peru will try to foul us out of the game. They'll try to paraguay'd us and stop the game every 5 seconds, they'll fight every ball in the midfield. Its their only choice to avoid a goleada. Lets see how it goes.

    ¿Qué carajo???

Are they serious? They are giving our team locker room bulletin board shit?

I hope everyone on the team read this - I hope our team doesn't get cocky and take this game light, yeah, I want the best starting XI tonight, no excuses.

In a weird way, this game now became important. In the old days, this would be a trap game for us and would stumble. To win this game, imo, makes us more "German" - i.e., we take games serious and go about it professionally. All games are business and we take business serious, regardless who the opponent is and regardless what's going on.

    https://www.infobae.com/america/per...ne-falencias-en-defensa-hay-que-aprovecharlo/

Not sure what this bloke was looking but I've never been more secure with our back line for a long time.

Ever since the Copa 21 started, we had 7 clean sheets out of 11 games. Only 4 goals conceded (2 of which really didn't matter [4-1 win vs Bolivia, 3-1 win vs Venezuela]). Honestly, hope we do a goleada against them today :p

Chile goal was penalty which Emi saved but our defenders tries to complain about offside, while Bolivia goal, it was Armani. Off course he managed to conceides in the only game he played. Venezuela goal was non existant penalty which the ref took about 30 minutes to decides just please the home crowd.
