Exactly. Who knows who will have the better career but in this time and moment we need a shot stopper and that's Turner > Steffen. When I've seen him with City he's had some questionable moments like we saw tonight. Some of it is rust, some of it might just be that he's not really developing as anybody hoped. Play the guys that are on form and ready, there's no reason to rotate keepers IMO.

Turner should have come out for that. It’s in his 6…its his responsibility. Zardes had every right to chew that ass.

Turner is not just lacking, but is sorely missing two major aspects of keeping, He doesn’t command his box and he cant help his team keep the ball.

Steffen isn’t lacking anything except for focus apparently, which he needs to be better at. He needs a sense of urgency and to play on his toes. Too relaxed. That’s much easier coached out than Turners deficiencies, however.

His speed of play has increased and he’s in decent form right now.

I've read four pages of this post game thread, and the number one thing I've come out of this is that no one seems to understand home field advantage.

Holy crap, the number of people who don't account for that is kind of insane.

Glad we won, but also that one poster who claimed Steffen is a better shot stopper than Matt Turner ... again, holy crap, no.

Yep, they sure are. And now if only Steffen could take that advantage and use it to become a better keeper than Matt Turner. Hasn’t happened yet!

Hahaha. It's like no one here has watched Steffen before.

This will happen. Over and over. He makes some great saves. But he gives these up all the time. This isn't new.

Scotland, Turkey, Croatia, Austria are sub MLS Level.
Belgium, Russia, Championship more less MLS
And if you decide to subdivide similar leagues to have 2 leagues per level that might put MLS in the seventh tier.

Steffen has lapses in focus and Turner has goat-fainting disorder where he freezes on the line when he has to commit to contact in the box.

We also have a huge amount of people that apparently...don't watch our best players abroad? Weird. Watch Steffen in his cup starts...as you said, this is who he is right now. Can knock a scarecrow down from 40 yards with a goal kick on occasion but is good for a howler way too often as well.

Of course that is part of it, but MMA made a huge difference. The non backpass negative turds in the midfield was the difference.

He is highly rated in Italy. Much higher than Wes. Not enough data of course, but still.

That is the exact response every person with an IQ over 2 had to your post that said if they rated A player over B they would have bid for A. Man City surely rate dozens and dozens of keepers better but that doesn’t mean they are going to bid for them to replace their backup keeper.

Again if A is not better than B because Man City didn’t bid for A, then Ter Stegen, Navas, Donnurrama, Allison, Atleti’s keeper (forgetting his name) are also not better because Man City didn’t bid for them.

Perhaps you have had to many Michelob Ultras before posting?

Dest and ARob were a huge difference too. The difference between Bello and Shaq vs ARob and Dest is like MLB players vs low A players.

Love Busio, hope he’s the 8 off the bench to replace one of McKennie or Musah, just don’t think he’s better than either yet. He is CLEARLY better at the 8 than backpass merchant Lletget or Acosta.

A.Robinson seems carrying an injury. That maybe why he didn’t try to dribble over when 1 vs. 1.
Also McKennie may not fully recovered. So for his erratic passes, hope he will get back to top form.

What studies? Please give a link because I've seen a number across multiple sports that say the opposite -- much of the home advantage is actually in things like familairity with your field, sleeping in a familiar bed, etc. in addition to crowd noise, etc.

    Do you have a link?

    Oh, god no.

We saw that against El Salvador. A bunch of players congregating in the middle, dribbling into a large collective of defense.

You need to move the defense, to force them out of a bunker. You need vertical and horizontal movement. Most of our best attacks both in Jamaica and this game came from good vertical movement.

I have no idea why you'd run from that. Then again, I have no idea why you think that damages connectivity so much.

Vertical movement is a fundamental element of literally EVERY successful offense in the world. Whether it is Pep's or Klopps -- both miles apart in many ways -- but they both need to stretch the centerbacks and provide that pressure or it's far too easy to create a defensive blob you can't get through.

Panama debacle is worth it if that means Llegett dropping down behind Busio in Gregg’s depth chart. Just think about how long time took him dropping Yueil. Be happy.

Teams at the highest level know when to be vertical and when to build slowly and have the talent to make it work. I'm pretty sure compared to the rest of CONCACAF the US has that talent. There's no need to pigeonhole us into some Tika Taka shit or some hoof and pray Barnsley with Dike shit either. As you said none of the best clubs play that way anyways it's all about being dynamic and reactive.

Thanks. Interesting, but not exactly compelling that the majority of home field advantage comes from refereeing. In fact, the referree advantage in the NBA seems to be similar regardless of HCA for a team. Even if it weren't, it's not really putting forth the importance of this versus other factors.
