He saved 69% of shots in MLS, to Turner's 73% (more like 75 after his rookie yr). And there's been a pretty considerable disparity for the NT surely (can't find the stat).

If anything Steffen has become a worse shot-stopper due to injuries, rust, and confidence loss. His save % in the BL was a sub-standard 63%.

While Turner has risen to the occasion for the NT when he's played tougher comp. Look at the comparative play v. Mexico for one. Turner's saving that bad angle shot Steffen got small for, let alone would he have reacted to the one today.

When has Turner allowed a score like that in his entire USMNT career? His 4 scores against have been two ones which would have required a great save (if savable), a pk, and hard own goal. Balls aren't bouncing by him.

Turner's argument is saving about 1 every other game that Steffen simply doesn't. Steffen's is he's better w/ his feet. People could at least have the honest argument which trade-off is worth it (I say d, because that's a gk's 1st job, actually). If anyone's acting like Steffen's anywhere near the shot-stopper, and Turner wouldn't have saved the one today, their serious bias is showing.

So are we back to acknowledging that road qualifiers are difficult?

I like Weah more than Arriola overall, but that’s incredibly harsh. Arriola played fine against Jamaica, while Weah was invisible against Panama. The entire game would’ve been different if Weah hadn’t played. Perhaps we wouldn’t have conceded a goal in the first minute if Arriola was out there.

You never stay still when the ball goes to your goal expecting someone else to change the direction of the ball. That's rediculuos, we have no clue whether CR player was even close enough to the ball, what we do know that the keeper with good reflexes gets to the ball no matter what. Steffen is a nice guy who always been overrated, it's not a difficult stop even, plenty of MLS keepers would do it.

IT SHOULD NOT BE SO DIFFICULT. Oh, Hoppe comes in and looks good? Oh Busio comes in and looks great? The Panama loss reeked of inexperience but this win, with a younger team, was just, just, just enough of an effort against a depleted, exhausted opponent.

depends who the team is.....this team has the skill and ability now that the need for a destroyer is not as great as it once was. put a front 6 of ball dominant attackers out and most teams are gonna just bunker against them

    musah-busio-reyna-pulisc-aaronson-pepi

    plus dest and antonee

they will have good possession % against anyone

keeping the ball is the best defense.

We do know that the CR player was close to the ball because, and correct me if i'm wrong here, you watched it on TV. there are also highlights that you can go back and look at. This happens quite often in soccer but is the exact reason why, in hockey, they say get the puck in front of the net, because that type of crap happens all the time where there is a small deflection or no deflection at all. The "save" would have been easy had the situation not been complicated by the attacking player. Seriously, go watch the replay. Y'all are in dreamland if you think that anything about that was simple.

Both those guys had a good touch, but that wasn’t their game. Both were powerhouses that had the speed, strength, and mobility to just blow past you.

Musah’s game is his first touch. That’s what he does and does extremely well.

I get not want to crown an 18 year old the best at something just yet... but if you look at his ceiling... you have to wonder who will match him when it comes to just slick movement on the ball.

why was the ref stopping the ball every time a cr player went down....not supposed to do that...they used it strategically.

Why would you give Richards a 5 and Miles a 6 when Miles made two major blunders and Richards none. In fact Richards block a ball that was going to be struck inside the 6.

A win is a win and 6 points is a hell of a lot better than less than 6 points.

But we were still very sloppy and played tight. CR was not a pro level team this night. On one hand yeah we had enough talent to run past them and dribble past them, on the other hand it will be harder to do that again other teams with actual talent that we still have yet to play.

The positive spin is that this is still a young team, with a ton of room to grow, and they weathered another storm. They can only get better.

The ULTRA positive spin is that Berhalter has even has an iota of a chance to learn and get better too, and we start getting better coaching performances coming up as well.

    Yep.
I want Turner in goal if he’s available, and Robinson, Zimmerman, and Richards to be the only guys getting minutes at center back if they’re all available (sorry, I’ve just never been sold on Brooks).

Mckennie, Musah, Adams, Busio and de la Torre need to be our main midfielders, with Lletget and Acosta only playing to prevent fatigue in the guys ahead of them.

Fullback depth is unfortunately light. I like Cannon and Vines as backup, and possibly Scally too, but one of Dest and AR needs to start every game assuming both are available.

Striker depth is weak, but Hoppe needs to be given a chance there.

They passed to each other! So much that it was scary sometimes when they were right in front of our goal. But, how long has it been us asking for a team of players who could pass.

Of course, there was the occasionally maniacally stupid play....hopefully playing more will cure that..

Brooks is an absolute monster when he's playing well... this season has not been the case but hopefully he turns that around because we need him when he's firing on all cylinders. I've seen a ton of his bundesliga matches and he needs to get back to how he's been the past couple seasons.

This type of crap happens mostly during free kicks from area between penalty box corner and sideline when a few forwards slide trying to touch the ball, and still good keepers often able to stop that pass/shot. Here the forward didn't even try to get to the ball, and neither did the keeper..

Arriola played a fine game against Jamaica, but he was clearly gassed in the abomination of a game against Panama. Which is what made Berhalter's decision to start him today absurd. We cannot have a head coach making those kinds of decisions with the starting lineup. Again, we got very lucky that Arriola got hurt.

If you mean that the Jamaica game would have been different without Weah playing, it's irrelevant. A good coach wouldn't have rotated 7 players and left 7 of his best 9 players on the bench in a game he intended to win. Weah and Musah were left on islands thanks to Lleget, Arriola (gassed), Zardes (touch of stone), and Acosta (couldn't complete a pass and turning it over like crazy) being incapable of passing well and maintaining possession.

    Jamaica is finishing 4th.

they had 3 of 4 on the road to start playing the US and Mexico with key players missing.

their last 6 include 4 of 6 at home. They will finish strong and likely be fourth.
