We are not consistent enough but also this eliminatorias are so unpredictable.

We wreck Bolivia without even trying then they beat Peru, whom beat us in Quito

Losing Byron was big because Preciado doesn't look like a footballer at all.

Yep ,we lost a lot of attack up front ,Preciado looked so lost,I kinda feel for him because we have a DT who puts so much pressure on guys who have no business being in the team at this point.

You know I didn't believe the whole "IDV tiene palanca" on the NT but seeing Alfaro call up Hurtado (instead of Caicedo from Emelec), start Ramirez (when he was shaky vs Bolivia), and call up Gaibor tells me Alfaro does what Deller tells him.

Alfaro deserves all the criticisms thrown at him today because he gave Venezuela those 3 points. Him and his constant changing of formations has me boiling today.

Estupiñan seems like he learnt from his Uruguay mistake I thought he was going to get beaten again and pushed over to the side during an attack from Venezuela.

2 big criticisms - Alfaro's coaching tactics are very suspect. Knowing that Ecuador is stuck with him for years unless they are willing to part ways with him now is distressing. At some point I hope he'd play one system and stick with it. It basically all stems from him....how are we so disorganized on the field and why are we so prone to mistakes? These miscues, even though they are young guys, are laughable. Especially goalie mistakes. There was no GREAT or standout Ecua today except for Enner miraculously scoring the PK....in prior games I would assume that he'd muff the kick. Good for him.

The team as a whole - with a dirtbag coach who can't inspire them or effectively line them up on the pitch, you'd assume they'd fix it themselves. Are they literally immune to criticism? Do they not see the s**t people post online about the tactics, mentality, perception of their commitment? These guys, from the first 3 mins of the game, looked completely out of synch. We lost at sea level! What's the excuse now? If we're this disorganized on the field, we have a LOW IQ/EQ team...they can't problem solve and can't dig themselves out of ruts. This is a major red flag. I've been saying it for a very long time - this team lacks leadership at all levels.

I heard and read Mena's post game press pool comment and he says that there are "Puntos rescatables" from this game....why is everyone scared to call it like it is. At this point, out of pure patriotism while risking blacklisting myself from future call-ups, I'd get on the mic and say "Preciado sucks and Alfaro needs to stop calling him up. Why are we playing rookie goal keepers in high stakes games? Why are we so disorganized and why can't we get motivated for long stretches of the match?". These guys are trying to spin a positive out of this match when there wasn't....we lost to the worst team in the tournament (by results). There's a problem!!!!!!!

Man, I really hope Argentina puts another 2 against Uruguay to keep their goal difference down.

I agree 100%. We're lacking an Ivan Hurtado or Edwin Tenorio to keep this players focused on and off the field.

They need to be held accountable in order for them to not only get more tough mentally but also be aware what mistakes they need to stop committing on the field.

Alfaro clearly doesn't understand the mentality of the Ecuadorian footballer. He think that being positive and constantly trusting them with make them preform.

I'm gonna go back to that parillada after losing against Brazil. That to me was a very bad approach from him. Really can't belive we don't see any strict approach from a guy who used to coach Boca Juniors.

We have been in a slump since then.

The team and the tactics that were applied gave them the win. Mena was playing as a false #9 yet he was so far away from their goal, as was Valencia. Arboleda was playing right back at one point and we started such an important match with a rookie goalie. Venezuela exploited Estupinans flank and Preciado is out of form and does not deserve to start. We are hanging on for our lives and it doesn’t get easier against Colombia. We need to go out on Thursday with our goal set to win and hopefully can at least tie. It would be devastating if we can’t qualify to the WC again after such a good start.

First off...welcome to the forum brother!

Secondly, yes the tactics helped them but Ramirez gave them the cheap win. I say cheap because Ramirez pulled a Geovanny Ibarra blooper that we don't see often.

Why don’t we go back to 442 formation? I feel like that suits our style of play so much better. With a línea de 3 it’s gonna end in goleada against Colombia and we are still light up front.

The fact Ramirez started is suspect. Galindez is injured but Dominguez and Ortiz were available. The players definitely notice that he gets the start over more experienced players. They notice that Gaibor gets called up even tho he's undeserving. Or that Preciado and Hurtado get called up over Romario Caicedo who's the second best right back in the country behind Castillo.

Alfaro should stick to a 442. Stop with the backline of 3 BS. He ********ing se planted to tie against Venezuela. Go for the ********ing win. Don't settle for the tie.

Is it just me or has Plata not looked the same?

I heard a snippet that Victor Muñoz questioned Alfaro by saying, why he didn’t start Dominguez against Bolivia for him to get game time and have him ready for the other games by playing against a very weak team.

Of all the positions to NOT use a young player, GK is probably the one that stands out the most.

GKs develop at the club level for a reason...they don't get tried at the NT level unless there is freakish ability- the kid is untested plain and simple.

Take a look at the top 10 teams in the world and look at the 3 GKs on each roster. 2..maybe 3 out of 30 possible GKs are under the age of 25 and only Donnarumma is a "starter" for Italy?

It's such a mentally taxing position to play.

Dominguez lost his starting spot on the NT because he wasn't playing for Velez. He's been playing consistently for his club team in Uruguay. Starting Ramirez made no sense. He's no Casillas or Neuer. The kid will probably go on to have a decent career but he's still rough around the edges.

As a Milan fan, I can tell you Donnarumma made A LOT of mistakes before he was ready to be a starter on the NT.

You're right that GKs have to be tested at all levels with their club before they're ready to take the torch on the NT.

Even when Donnarumma was putting in great performances, old Buffon was preferred due to experience.

Actually someone uploaded a video of him doing the same thing during training. Which would have thought it would happen when it matters….

I think Plata is getting marked more aggressively,he’s been getting kicked and pushed around more, defenses know that stopping him ends the attack and sometimes it looks as though no one wants to follow and play off of him as he does with Castillo.
