I was amazed they didn’t make a serious run at Horvath… American (but has euro passport), Free Agent, obvious quality. Seems like it would’ve been a perfect fit.

From an American perspective, yes. But in Italian, describing someone as "di pelle scura" is not necessarily seen as a slur.

Keep in mind that Italy is a much less multiracial and multicultural society than ours, and one with an entirely different history.

 

True but it's not as if Italy hasn't had multiculturalism for several decades now.
I remember visiting Italy back in 2015 and my good friend asking me if my parents were from Africa or grandparents. I had to get as specific as possible to inform her that my family had been in the U.S. for two centuries.

Just one of the things that bothers me about Italy. The seemingly lack of thinking outside of the box when it comes to diversity.

Marginally funny music story. I'm living in Italy (in an actual house of ill repute it turns out, but that is neither here nor there. Rent was cheap.) I walk to the local bar, Bryan Ferry song comes on the juke-box, guy I'm playing pool with, who I don't know but have been having a nice time shooting pool with, starts ranting how he hates the song. Hates Bryan Ferry (I do nod to that, to be fair.) His English isn't great, but it's ok. I'm perplexed. This guys has a pretty outsized reaction to a boring but fairly innocuous pop song, not much different from the rest of the selection that's been playing. I ask what he hates so much about this song. "It's for the gay, this song, 'I'm just a jealous gay' I hate gay." Beat. "Guy. Regazzo. Tipo... Guy." "Oh... Not 'gay'?" "No. Regazzo. I'm just a jealous guy. A jealous regazzo..." Beat. "Eccola... You shoot..." It is never mentioned again.

C'mon man.....its just absurd in today's day and age to use such stuff.

I don't give the Italians any pass whatsoever given they have shown the ability to be to world-class in many areas of economics and culture and are plenty attuned to the rest of the world.....when they want to be.

They just want to remain a turd on this issue, and that's all on them. Should we let them still pinch girls asses as well? (Mi scusi.....in OUR COUNTRY, we like-a the ass-a.....)

 

They don't get a pass, and clearly there are problems not just in italy but in Italian football, but while to our sensibilities "dark-skinned italian-american" might seem offensive, in Italy it's seen as respectful and simply honest. Italians don't use the US "African-American" label because outside of the US it's meaningless. So should they say Italian African American? That's a fair bit of the globe, isn't it? It also puts busio in a very different grouping. There are Italian politcal parties focused on the trouble with African migrants. there are not politican parties devoted to whinging about US-migrants. They could use multi-national but that's confusing and really, wrong, he's a USA kid. Italians could be post-racial, but, as I said, your post has some merit and they are not.

I suspect we'll see more of Busio with the USMNT next window. He did himself no disservice today.

 

That's what we thought about Hoppe after GC.

 

Not a fair comparison. Completely different players. Busio starts with a solid skillset. His passing is dependable. His off the ball movement and understanding of space is improving. Hopefully he can shore up his main shortcomings- defense, winning battles.

 

Busio, is just going to continue to get better. Playing in Serie A, has made him stronger and more decisive, with his passing.

Hope he can start taking more free kicks for Venezia.

 

Busio will continue to collect all the Serie A minutes regardless of what happens to Venezia this year. As to his USMNT status, he definitely leap frogged a lot of his competition this past week just due to others laying eggs. That said, dude is legit and will continue to impress. To have someone this young ballin' out in Serie A right now is extremely promising for his future.

 

Think he’s a bit better than Musah but it really is down to matchup and it’s hugely awesome we can pick and choose which talented midfielder to play based on opponent and game plan
