Not an MLS stadium, but there's a vote upcoming in November for a 12,000 stadium for NM United. https://www.uslsoccer.com/news_article/show/1185313
Check out the Nashville SC webcam... Looks pretty far along and they've already got one wall of seats put in? https://www.nashvillesc.com/stadium/construction/camera Also held the shovel ceremony for their new training center in Antioch. Anyone seen renderings for that?
Oh here they are: https://broadwaysportsmedia.com/nashville-sc-releases-renderings-for-antioch-training-facility/ Nashville SC is not so much for the luxury touch.
============= The mere fact we have MLS teams building state of the art training facilities rather than renting or playing on some crappy field somewhere should be good enough seeing where we have come from. I think there are still a few teams out there that can use an upgrade...
A setting? Would require throwing an extra twenty bucks at the photoshop guy. And check out the webcams for the stadium... How much effort and expense would it take to put up a decent 2nd camera, one that works most days? Seems like a few more bucks would help get more bang for their investment. I think Nashville is rightfully proud of their no-frills approach to the squad, but I wish their new stadium plan looked a little nicer, more plush and inviting/exciting. Remember when the city of Orlando went back to the plans and told City they had to make it less basic? Will see how their new stadium looks when it opens next year, then 10 or 15 years down the line. Nashville is touting the fact that it will be the largest SSS... and nothing will look much better or more inviting than a packed 30k SSS.
Sure, you can dress it up in photoshop. The Crew's new stadium is next to a railroad wye. The triangle inside is a bare patch of dirt owned by a construction company and used for storage and parking for baseball games. But in the Crew's images, it's an urban forest.
The way I leer over this drone guys' SL videos is entirely gross. Seriously he made us wait too long this time, we need a safety word. There must be pron memes that apply here. Hope in the future he'll want to do more of a loop over the training center part of the SL campus. Do we know how integrated the training center and stadium are supposed to be? For example, will the stadium itself have as many locker rooms as the new stadiums in Cincy, Columbus, Nashville, Austin? As if the training center and stadium weren't adjacent? Where do team buses arrive and get parked - across the street? I'm wondering how WC 2026 teams might use all these MLS facilities. Do we know how that went with qualifiers in Austin and Columbus? Did visitors use the Austin training facility, or did the US? How about historic Columbus Crew stadium?
I doubt World Cup teams will train in the middle of cities and I doubt the accommodations are up to soccer star standards (Messi is paying $24k a night for his hotel suite in Paris). Most teams will want to train at altitude, so Colorado hotel complexes will be full.
A. But by 2026 there will be 126 teams in the World Cup finals. B. Are you guessing most teams will stay in US? C. Looks like there's a Best Western right smack across the street from the SL stadium - can't beat that location. (Holy smokes $24k a night??? You just successfully dented my love for Messi.) D. You really think these MLS facilities won't get used? In '94 we were watching Brazil train at Buck Shaw stadium. I saw Messi training at Kezar! He probably went from there to Woodrow's pied-sous-terre.
Not sure of exact counts, but at the stadium Home/Visitors and 2 or 3 aux locker rooms. plus the ref's, media, etc... Training center i've heard first team, plus some for academy teams. There was an article some time ago mentioning they wanted the reserves and upper academy teams all training at the facility. There is an access road thru the training center, along the west side, that goes under market street and to a below grade loading dock in the stadium. You can catch a few glimpses of the retaining walls. Maybe bring the team busses in that way?
Here's a picture from the drone guy (Chris) that shows the tunnel entrance. https://www.flickr.com/photos/132292918@N06/51593759006/ found in this thread: https://urbanstl.com/mls-stadium-and-district-t11794-s850.html
Ready. pic.twitter.com/UIctGZylLk— St Louis CITY SC (@stlCITYsc) October 19, 2021 Cool thread, saw the above link within it. I remember that tunnel from the training center, which I suppose gives players/teams the option to park either under the stadium or at the training center and take the team bus to and fro.
I doubt they'd want to stay up there during the WC, but I wonder if there's any training facilities in Aspen/Vail/etc. that have already been booked for pre-WC training camps.
Wow, St. Louis deserves a football team that won't leave. Good for them. Stadium is coming along nicely. STL & Nash are the "only" two 7nder construction at the moment, right? Charlotte is gonna play in a pointy ball stadium (barf), just like NE, SEA, VAN, CHI, and ATL, right? I have hope for Chicago. The rest are likely staying put for a long while. Miami & Citeh are trying, at least.
In the 1994 World Cup the organizing committee were allowed to pick training centers so teams ended up training at Rutgers, Princeton etc. I can't see that happening this time as sports physiology has moved on so much.
It will be interesting to see what happens if the Bears move to Arlington Heights, which seems a little more likely with the announcement of their purchase agreement for the property a few weeks ago. The Fire’s owner has said the team is committed to making Soldier Field work, but what that means is different without the Bears there. I would expect us to be playing there for at least a decade either way, but it will be interesting to see what happens if the city loses the Bears as a tenant there. St. Louis seems to be coming along nicely- looking forward to heading down there in a few years and hopeful the league has them in the same conference/division/whatever once their onboard.
I was just watching the Packers-Bears highlights yesterday. Soldier Field is really a great stadium (IMHO), seats close to the pitch and when full it seems to have an amazing atmosphere. Put that stadium in my country and would be the best stadium by a huge marging. The renovations were less than 20 years ago .. how bad the bears have a lease on that?
The Bears would have to pay $90 million to break their lease. Peanuts for them but it might help convert the stadium to something more MLS friendly. I'd like it if they did an Atlanta and found a way of covering up the upper deck but leaving it in place for international matches. I think Chicago declined to bid for a WC venue
Soldier Field (and the Michigan Mile/Lake Shore Drive around it) can be a wonderful place for an event. Seen many good concerts there and a USA/England friendly. The fact that it is grass puts it above NE, SEA, VAN, ATL. I believe Charlotte is switching to turf as well? Portland makes six. 20%+ of league stadiums suck in my view. Any turf stadium (SSS or otherwise) is bad for soccer. Good location, atmosphere, and great fans certainly help, but the game itself should be primary. Good to excellent: CLB, LAG, FCD, COL, RSL, TFC, HOU, SKC, NYRB, MON, SJ, DC, ORL, PHI, LAFC, MIN, FCC, MIA, AUT, NASH, STL. Not ideal but grass: CHI, NYCFC, CHA (at the moment). Everything great but the turf: POR Ick: NE, SEA, VAN, ATL.
