Now losing 6-3. Jesse having a terrible start to his RBL Coaching Career. Ouch. Adams played pretty well going forward... but had to cover for an out of position Muk on a counter and gets roasted by Grealish for the 4th goal... makiing it 4-2 at the time. It was not his best moment... but man o man... the commentator must really dislike Adams or US Intl's in general... I have never heard an announcer repeat as many times in a single broadcast how poorly a player did defending a goal. I think he mentioned the goal 5 times and each time it seemed more about Adams than Grealish. What is even odder about it is that earlier in the game Muk inexplicably headed the ball into his own goal... but the announcer only mentioned that one other time. Also... if Muk doesn't get caught up field Adams doesn't have to own everything for covering at RB. Adams also picked up a stupid yellow in this one. Not his best game... but offensively I have noticed a huge improvement this year... a lot of positive passes to break lines.
Isn't this what Tyler Adams wanted though, these kind of games as opposed to Honduras and El Salvador?
Man. Just not good all around from what many of us consider the "top" YAs of late for club or country.
To be fair, that was a really bad moment. Normally an aggressive, high work rate player, Adams saw the ball go out wide on the counter and kind of meandered in its general direction, half-heartedly bit on Grealish's fake toward the touchline, who then cut inside and it was all over. It was a real blemish on an otherwise really good game.
I mean, losing to Man City and getting beat for a goal by one of the best and most expensive players in the world isn't really worthy of cynicism for me.
nah, b. he said hed rather play the NTIONAL TEAMS of france or england than play these central american countries in their own stadiums. which was probably hyperbole...but the point still stands...he was trying to get across how difficult that is...and he is right.
Yeah, that was strange and I'm not sure what he was thinking there. He looked like he was day dreaming or something, very unlike Tyler.
I think the original delay to get back to stop Grealish was due to: 1) The ball being turned-over by his teammates up the field 2) He initially expected Muk to be playing his position I also think he expected more support from the center back when he forced Grealish inside. Lastly... I think he might have been a bit more aggressive had he not picked up that stupid yellow card. In the end it was a poor play from Tyler which overshadowed what I thought was a pretty decent game from his otherwise.
On the own goal by Leipzig. I thought Tyler was a little passive letting De Bruyne whip the cross in. Giving de Bruyne a free look anywhere in the final third invites trouble. But, there were obviously all sorts of trouble for RBL defensively.
Opinions are divided. Americans think he did well enough. Everybody else says he was poor. PS: If you're a fan of Jesse, avoid any of the Leipzig forums. "Marsch raus" is trending.
I could only watch the second half. I don't think Tyler deserves the criticism he's getting. But that he stayed the full 90 and the coach is American seems to have rubbed some of the fans the wrong way. Also, it seems his mistakes were mostly in the first half.
Das ist doch Scheisse.... Leipzig was losing 4-3 to arguably the best team in the world (or at least 1 of the top 4-5 candidates for the crown), away from home, for 75 minutes.....and that is considered a disaster by their fans and their media? Sure it went downhill from there, especially with red card- but they were competitive for most of the match. Management screwed Jesse by unloading their 3 best players in the window. Management must know that he's hardly had time to adjust such a big talent loss and they would get off to a slow start this season. That the newer, less heralded players need time to get up to speed and raise their level. Jesse's is implemented new ideas and a new style. It takes time. Of course, I'm wishing for better results for Jesse as well. He'll need to climb the table during the year, squeeze out at least a Europa League spot and do a respectable job in his CL group to calm enough natives for a 2nd year IMO But man, at this early stage- you'd think German fans could be a bit more cerebral about it.... Edit: just got the 16 minute highlight package. Bad errors but very fixable errors for Leipzig. Adams did look bad on Grelish goals but played a good role in first Leipzig goal. I would be unhappy if I were Jesse at the poor quality of error but would take comfort on how fixable they are. I'd actually be worried more if I were Pep since he defense got puzzled by Leipzig's movements near the goal (which weren't immensely complicated) and the rotations were poor Leipzig's goals. That's the mistake of more than 1 player and takes practice to overcome. Ake, to me, is still a ? if he will be liability in some important situations this year.
They punched City in the mouth a few times and scoring 3 against that team makes the 6 a bit more palatable, somewhat. It's a collection of stars and superstars. Leipzig has been gutted season over season and have a new coach. I don't know what fans are expecting exactly. Only managed to watch the end of the 1st/beginning of the 2nd and liked what I saw from Adams overall. As g4B said, he helped move play around, pressured well, was only partly to blame for breakdowns. Does seem surprising Marsch left him in after he played every minute of the international break. In the long run, all Adams has to do to be successful is stay on the damn field.
Can someone link me the Jesse Marsch YA thread? I looked and searched but couldn’t find it. Or is there not one?
Thanks! Surprised it’s in the academy section, but I can’t remember the last time I sought out a coaches thread. Probably Bradley at Swansea.
Good post and if he can just stay healthy- barring terrible performance over many games, Jesse will give him every benefit of the doubt to be a starter.
I would definitely want to be a highly paid coach in for LA's most fashionable team than for Swansea's. Thanks, Swansea!
