Someone help me out. A player coming from England, for example, to Brazil has to quarantine for 14 days because he might have Covid. But someone traveling from any South American country doesn't have to quarantine because he is guaranteed not to have Covid based on the country he traveled from?

England is a mess when it comes to COVID. Brazil is too. Some countries in South America are not as bad as those two.

But as far as entry into Brazil goes, Brazil makes the rules. The rule in question applies to the UK, India and South Africa. Anyone who has been in those countries needs to say so when entering Brazil and is expected to quarantine on entry into Brazil.

    Sunday's results:
    • Ecuador 0-0 Chile
    • Paraguay 1-1 Colombia
    • Uruguay 4-2 Bolivia
    • Perú 1-0 Venezuela
Meanwhile, the Brazil-Argentina match was suspended because some players had falsified their health status...

    Falsify health status? Wtf?
What Brasil claims is that the 4 players that play in the Premier League didnt say they have been in UK in the last 14 days (eventhough the whole world knows where they play) so the health authorities WAITED UNTIL THE GAME WAS BEING PLAYED (5 minutes in) when some armed officials entered the pitch trying to take out the players (?) An utter shame and embarrassment, a cheap circus and a disgrace from whoever orcherstrated this

This is what apparently happened, from the point of view of Argentina, based on what came out so far and has been reported.

Apparently there is a law that says that Brazilian citizens who travel from England don't have to quarantine but foreigners do. This obviously would create an unfair advantage in that Brazil would be able to use EPL players and their opponent would not.

To avoid this competitive advantage, there is an exemption for football players which was agreed to in advance, and which everybody from Conmebol to the Argentine and Brazilian federation assumed would be automatically granted.

Apparently, it's coming to light that when Argentine players entered Brazil there was a minor mistake of omission in paperwork (not by the players but by whoever took care of their paperwork). It appears that answering an electronic questionnaire, somebody reportedly listed Venezuela as country of origin for all the players, because that's were the players were coming from after playing in Caracas, instead of listing the original country of origin from were each player came from - England, France, Spain etc -

Some Brazilian health bureaucrats used that mistake as a reason to refuse to grant the exemption for the four players who play in the EPL. In their view, the listing of Venezuela instead of Britain meant that the players had lied and falsified documents. The person who actually signed the document, according to the Brazilian agency, was Argentina's youth coach Fernando Batista - who is the coach of the Olympic team, and brother of former World Cup champion Checho Batista. But Batista wasn't even in Brazil for the trip.

It is possibly that Batista answered the questionnaire electronically from Buenos Aires, but he claims that he did not, that he was not involved. The speculation is that it's one of those electronic signatures that are preprogramed, and when some clerk signed it, based on past usage somehow Batista's name came up. Either way, the players and coaching staff had nothing to do with the mistake and had no idea of what had happened.

The agency did go to the hotel the day before the game to discuss the discrepancy. But according to officials, the mistake was clarified (obviously nobody denied where the players came from, which is public knowledge), and everyone at the meeting was led to believe that the exemption would come.
After meeting with Conmebol and the Brazilian federation, Argentina backed by Conmebol decided to go to the stadium in good faith, believing that it was a foregone conclusion that the exemption would be granted.

But it now appears that exactly 51 minutes before the game started, when the players were already warming up, somebody from the agency sent an e-mail to a Conmebol's general e-mail address saying that they refused to grant the exemption. The e-mail and the time that it was sent have now been made public. Based on that, the health agency sent agents - who apparently had already entered the stadium before the email to Conmebol was sent.

Then we all saw what happened on TV. The agents, including one who was armed, invaded the pitch and stopped the game in an attempt to detain and deport the players who had originally come from England. Based on the invasion, and the fact that one of the parties was armed and scuffling with players, the ref and the Conmebol officials suspended the game for invasion of pitch, and ordered the players to the locker room. That is in the report from the ref as well as in the report sent by the overseer from Conmebol. Although the Argentine players stated that in solidarity nobody would play if some players were detained, that never happened because the refs are the ones who chose to suspend the match and ordered the teams to the locker room, which according to the ref was done to protect their safety from "outside forces".

    Apparently the questionnaire has :

    (1)
Country of origin (that has to be filled for you to proceed)
    (2) Have you been in these 3 countries in the past 14 days (UK, South Africa, India) .....(which you can proceed leaving the question blank).

So answering Caracas to the first question is correct.

The form is filled electronically before boarding to Brazil and can be done remotely.

yeah, some idiot must have accidentally left it blank, giving the bureaucrats an excuse to show their power. They probably weren’t expecting the reaction that they got. Bureaucrats everywhere tend to have small minds.

With one half of the qualifiers concluded, I'm already 99% sure that the 5 qualified teams will be the 5 currently at the top.
Brazil, Argentina, Uruguay and Colombia will qualify directly. The key? their depth. They are the only teams that can lose a bunch of their starters and still field high level XI that can get results. In a long tournament like this depth will ALWAYS make the difference at the end, even for teams that don't play that well.

5th place will be for Ecuador as long as they can win their remaining 4 home games (I'm very sure 25 points will be enough for repechage this time). They have two "easy" ones coming now (BOL & VEN) and then they will finish against Brazil and last Argentina, both who will be 100% qualified by the time they play. Of course, any away win they can get will practically certify their ticket.

Of the remaining teams I think Peru will be the one finishing in 6th. They play the better football of the bottom pack but unfortunately they have already dropped too many home points. With 8 points they have even less points than what they had after the first round on the road to Russia and back then it took an historic performance from them in the second half to take the team to repechage. Don't see them surpassing that this time.

I Wouldn’t be at all surprised if Ecuador grab a direct spot. Uruguay and Colombia with tough games coming up could give Ecuador a nice 5-6 point lead over both or at least one of them as we head into the final five rounds, and a much better goal difference .

I remember in Russia, Peru fans were everywhere. It seemed like they were almost the best supported team of the tournament, Peruvians all over the place. I wonder how many would come to Qatar should they qualify? Probably not as many but they certainly added something to the tournament...

Three matches of Matchday 11 are already played. All teams around Paraguay in the table failed to pick up a win.
Argentina will in my eyes send Uruguay empty handed back to Montevideo.

Can Paraguay for once capitalise and pull off a win away in Chile? This is now the perfect opportunity against a Chiean team that struggles mightly in this qualifying.

Tabarez has completely lost it. If he had any sense of shame, he would resign.
i wish we had someone at the AUF with the balls to fire his ass. Enough is enough.

One thing I've noticed about Paraguay is that they've only got two wins. However, both these wins came against Venezuela, and they failed to win their home game against Bolivia so that tells me they've got a tough schedule ahead. I think you'll see them drop off a bit

They don't have enough quality going forward. They scored the least goals after Venezuela.
On the other side they are tough to beat.
But it's true it doesn't look too good for them.

    ??????
Where did you see the garra charrúa?
Five fouls in the whole game! No yellow cards. Against Argentina! They were watching Messi the whole game. Nobody got even close to him. I was expecting our players to ask him for a selfie at half time. They hit De La Cruz twice early in the game and he disappeared. Brian Rodríguez looked like a ballerina. Messi scored a shitty goal and the whole team folded like a cheap suit. No reaction at all. Can you imagine Ruso Perez, Montero or Cacha Arévalo putting up with the olés?
Even the Colombians hit us all game and nobody does anything about it. Garra charrúa? Where?
This is what Havelange tried to achieve his whole career… and we did it to ourselves!
    Thanks “maestro”.
