Good move that and seemed inevitable once Austin got an MLS team.

I guess Bold Stadium is now a MLR specific stadium.

The novelty wore off way before Austin FC were in the picture and once they were in the picture, they ran PACs and lawsuits trying to block them from playing.

It turns out virtually no one wanted to travel out in the boonies for a soccer game behind a racetrack.

I agree they needed to move, but going from one MLS market to another?

But it's 50 miles from Fort Worth to Frisco according to Googly directions.

Fort Worth is to Frisco what Oakland is to San Jose. They’re in the same metro, but they’re so far apart it near as makes no difference.

I was thinking the same thing. Why have an MLS and a USL team in the same town?

I still have my doubts about this Oakland Roots partnership with the Quakes.

I think Queensboro FC will do very well. There are a lot of disenchanted NYCFC supporters in Queens.

Roots should see if the rest of their season can be rescheduled to only play Los Dos.

I think the story glosses over a reduction in season ticket sales due to Covid as US sports include season ticket holders in their attendance numbers even if their seats are vacant.

In general I think reported attendances in 2021 will be a lot closer to the actual number of people in a stadium.

Also, watching sports is habitual and once you get out of the habit you suddenly find that there are other interesting things to do on a Saturday evening.

Baseball suffered a 20% drop in attendances after the 1994/95 strike and it took 10+ seasons to recover to their pre-strike average.

The worst hit MLS teams are the ones that have been habitually under-performing. Take Houston Dynamo and Vancouver Whitecaps for example. (NYC are suffering over their decision to play games away from Yankee Stadium, to which most fans said FU!)

Obviously Covid is having an impact but it's also a good excuse.

I don't think NMU have too much to worry about as this is only their second season with the stadium open. I hope they get the necessary approvals for their new stadium.

Loudoun United statement says the club suspended all activities as of Sunday (i.e. 8 more days to go) out of concerns over Covid-19. Loudoun vs. Hartford rescheduled for 10/13, Loudoun's visit to Hartford originally scheduled for 10/15 moved to 10/16

USL Announces New Professional Division II Women’s Soccer League

USL announces a Division 2 Professional Women's soccer league debuting in 2023.

Meanwhile, NISA's "supposed" D2 professional women's soccer league is starting 4-6 months now and they have only one team signed up. It appears those plans have been stalled (not shocking)

Notts County was formed in 1862 and didn't play anyone else officially until 1866.

Slavery was legal in the United States in 1862. There are plenty of things from 1862 that have absolutely zero relevance today.

OK, calm down. It was a light-hearted example.

there were supposedly a lot of disenchanted fire supporters in chicago, but they have not exactly gravitated to the lower-level team playing in an sss and under the direction of one of their favorites.

i cannot recall an nyc area lower-level team that has drawn well. cosmos, no. centaurs, no. vipers, no. fcny, no. rough riders did okay for a bit, i guess, maybe. but i am stuck for examples that people disenchanted with a higher-level team will just naturally and of course start supporting a lower level team with zero history. unless they like the q thing.

seems like the disgruntled either just stop going to and following games entirely or keep going and just bitch and lament their misfortune.

It's being built on the popularity of David Villa. They'll also be playing in a soccer specific stadium.

If they can draw what the Brooklyn Cyclones drew they'll succeed.

This makes them the closest USL-C team to me, and I'll probably hit a few games there next year. Lubbock is called the Hub city, and next season's USC will have NM, El Paso, San Antonio, OKC, and Ft. Worth all within a 5 hour drive of us with RGV, Tulsa, and Colorado Springs all driveable as well. Can't wait to see the schedules and plan some road trips.

It takes 60-90 minutes less, depending on traffic, to get to Ft. Worth than it does Dallas. Throw in Frisco being about 30 miles north of downtown Dallas, and Ft. Worth is really its own entity. Depending on where they find a stadium to play in, the team might be able to draw a bit from Arlington and western Dallas suburbs. Ft. Worth alone has almost 1 million people, and Tarrant County is over 2 million.

The Lou City vs Lexington "friendlies" and potential Open Cup matches could be a lot of fun.
