Rapids at the quakes today at 8pm out time. Hard to remember this amongst World Cup qualifying and the start of college football.
San Jose Earthquakes vs Colorado Rapids PayPal Park (10PM ET) REF: Joe Dickerson AR1: Jeff Hosking AR2: Mike Rottersman 4TH: Dave Gantar VAR: Kevin Terry Jr AVAR: Mike Kampmeinert
With Seattle off this weekend and KC face-planting against LAFC last night, with a win the Rapids will move to second on points and within 1 point of Seattle, and will take the lead on PPG.
1-0 win, goal by Barrios. The Rapids are a better team than San Jose, on both offense and defense. The big equalizer though is missing Acosta and Kaye making our midfield notably weaker. Despite that I think the Rapids can get the edge on the Earthquakes with their depth and pull out 3 points, but I wouldn't be shocked by a draw. http://view-from-the-couch.blogspot.com/2021/09/inoculated-city.html
Without Kaye and Acosta it seems like Mezquida may start as he has a good amount of MLS experience. And Bassett will most likely start in a #10 role. Fraser will most likely go with 5-4-1 ish formation. Hopefully they are aggressive rather than passive. Perhaps the most important aspect of facing the E-Quakes is how the Rapids deal their borderline dangerous physical tactics to intimidate the opposition. This seems to be the way San Jose tries to level the playing field.
"The way they man-mark and play presents a challenge that's very different from other teams. Physicality is one of the places they thrive on most, so we need to match that, and if we do that, we let our football take over.”#SJvCOLhttps://t.co/8nEVGOctx0— Colorado Rapids (@ColoradoRapids) September 4, 2021
Just want to reiterate that the match is on national TV, assuming you have it in your cable package. Hi, #Rapids96 fam! We're on national TV! 👋Don't miss the action, tonight's game will be broadcast on UniMás and Twitter! ⚽️ 8:00 PM 📺 @UNIMASofficial 🖥 @MLS Twitter📱 #SJvCOL pic.twitter.com/Pemt6AGdXO— Colorado Rapids (@ColoradoRapids) September 4, 2021
Another one of those “I have no idea what will happen” games. So 2-1 Rapids, with Lewis and Bassett scoring.
Trusty, Rubio, and Kelly injured (along with Namli, obviously). Not even a full bench tonight. 𝐒𝐓𝐀𝐑𝐓𝐈𝐍𝐆 𝐗𝐈⚽️ 8:00 PM📺 @TUDNUSA, @Twitter 📱 #SJvCOL@MyKingSoopers x #Rapids96 https://t.co/5HQG5X6ZBJ— Colorado Rapids (@ColoradoRapids) September 5, 2021
Yowza - Lalas with a caution already and head injury it appears, quite the collision. Drew Moor in for the Rapids, and Quakes down a player as well. And the sound levels for the commentators are terribly mis-matched on the Twitter feed of the Quakes stream.
I'll be impressed now if Drew can keep his season long streaks of only playing in wins and never giving up a goal when he's on the field alive
Not much recovery speed in the back 4. Dunno how fast Esteves is yet. Hope we can keep the ball in front of us.
Since those early subs were almost certainly concussion related, the Rapids can now sub in their whole bench tonight if they want to, since there are only 5 players left on it.
Well, I've actually heard Galvan mentioned a few times this evening. That's better than the KC match.
That extends to the D-mids too (Warner). This might be our slowest XI, actually. Though I think Esteves has some pace.
Well, that was 45' of ... not much. Getting up real early tomorrow so gonna watch the second half in bed and hope I see it all.
We seem to be pretty comfortably dominating much of the possession. We definitely appear to be the better, more in control team. But very little danger in the final 3rd. Nothing very close in the first half for either side. Galvan definitely our most active/dangerous player that half. Most of the game flowing through him and Keegan down the right side.
Esteves looks solid so far in his first MLS start. His left foot isn’t as cultured as Vines’s was but it could take some time before he’s whipping in good crosses. His timing, pace (which I gotta say, is deceptively fast in close spaces), and strength all look good through 45’. Not looking forward to Cowell vs Moor / Wilson as the game goes on. His bending runs and speed are a tough ask for those two. Hopefully he tires himself out soon and won’t be able to make those streaking runs all night.
Damn. Def not making the case for being showcased on national TV again in coming weeks (with exception of that one… what is it, MNUFC/Rapids in a few weeks)
