This was a repeat of the game where Chile lost to Farias and Venezuela in the 2011 Copa America.

Maripan has become a guaranteed liability. It's unfortunate because he was showing a lot of promise at the club level.

Also, it was hard to believe that Chile was going with an ultra offensive lineup when we had 3 defenders for one lone striker who took his one opportunity from a defensive gift.

Bad result, but good looking team. Let us not forget this is only the second or third game that Lasarte has the team and it is already a better team then Rueda ever had. I can only point at bad luck for this not being a goleada. The only downsides are Vargas not being able to score and Maripan giving them yet another penalty.

That is a good point that was clouded by my judgment in the moment. These past two games have been the best we have looked in years. I still am in disbelief over the result last night. That was a 5 goal game. And yes it’s actually monumental that we get the Copa to get more practice with Lasarte’s system. Definitely a blessing we get more time with it before the qualifiers kick off again.

I think the team has a better chance of qualifying now with what I’ve seen with Lasarte. He reads the games well and does not experiment in important matches. I don’t mind him trying a few new players in Copa America, as this is not an objective for this team. I think the goleador we need will be one of these “new” players.

I still think we can get a more positive result in La Paz. It will come down to preparation.

Best lineup in a while. Must win all games to make up for points dropped elsewhere.

If we lose today we might as well pack in and disband as a team. That includes Lasarte.

Me ha gustado vega entre otros. El problema del gol sigue penándonos. Incluso sin jugar mal no se ha llegado mucho tampoco. Así no se puede ir a un mundial…. Si se llega a ir así es para ir al viaje solo.

IMO it’s a wrap on Lasarte and Qatar. We would have to find a saza to fix this mess, and they ain’t around anymore.

If anyone thought that Brereton was the answer for goals, this chap looking pretty amateur to me.

We played this game before many times, except this time it actually went in.
The good: we have a good amount of capable players in defense. The coach should focus on set pieces as a viable alternative due to the lack of positives from the attack.
I also saw a good attitude from the players this game.
The bad: coach is not bad, but unimaginative when he has to react and invent.
No good alternatives from the bench to anyone in the midfield or attack. It’s time for him to find these players.

I was thinking that he could play with three towers in the back when possible and graduate Gary to a DM position.

Venezuela game Thursday is MASSIVE. Must win or Qatar dreams are over. I think we can still grab that 5th spot. Isla was superb last night. We need Sanchez to get it together. I also don’t like how he seems always be on his own away from the team in celebrating.

That last game with Uruguay may have that playoff spot on the line. Colombia has a very easy last two games. Uruguay has some battles ahead of them.

Without being overly superior to Venezuela we go to the half 2-0 up. Two goals by set pieces where the normal attacks have generated little more than corners. As I said before we should exploit these going forward, especially on our away games. I’d have to say once again that we need to bring up Gary and put three towers in the back when we play teams that attack us. We cannot keep thinking we’ll play the 90 minute pressing possession game with an older team. This is a good Venezuela side too, so more the merit for the score thus far.
