Was kinda weird to hear two English guys broadcasting a Spanish League match though. But I guess it is as weird as an Argentine and Mexican dude doing a Premier League game on Telemundo.
We are kind of used to it though since Ray Hudson has been the main voice of La Liga for ~20 years, albeit alongside a baseball announcer doing the play-by-play.
Looks like the Friday night Segunda division match will be appearing regularly on Plus as they are showing Valladolid v Zaragoza right now.
That is why I said two English guys but yes. Although Ray would probably say he watches way more Spanish League and Latin American Leagues in general. I think I heard him say on air he hates the Premier League for the most part. The guys on ESPN are a little different.
ESPN hasn't released its schedule for the UEFA World Cup qualifiers, September 1-9. Any reason to be worried? Is it safe to assume most games will be on ESPN+ with a couple of big ones on ESPN or ESPN2?
I wouldn't worry. We know, for e.g., that Norway v Netherlands is on espn2 but it doesn't show on the ESPN online schedule either. So clearly its just a case of the schedule not being updated that far in advance yet.
Thanks. I just signed up through Hulu. I see the Spanish option for La Liga, but not Bundesliga. I guess they think Spanish speakers don't watch Bundesliga.
Watching EFL Cup match right now. The coverage is so minimal. 5 mins of pre-game. 0 mins of HT highlights/summary. I'm pretty sure the EFL puts out more HT content, but ESPN seems to be just trying to cram more ads in... 15 mins worth! Anyone know anything more about this? Am I right in my assumption about ESPN consciously opting not to show all of what EFL provides?
Actually, the ESPN2 games and shows do appear on the schedule: Norway-Netherlands, Sept 1, 2:30 pm Highlights show, Sept 3, 12:30 am Highlights show, Sept 5, 2:30 am England-Andorra, Sept 5, 11:50 am France-Finland, Sept 7, 2:30 pm Review show, Sept 9, 5 pm Less than a week away now. Still waiting for the rest of the schedule to post.
The full UEFA World Cup qualifier schedule has now posted. 3 games on ESPN2 (see previous post), 14 games on ESPN 3, the rest on ESPN+.
I've noticed that the settings option on the ESPN app on my Samsung phone has triple the options to look at or change than the settings on the ESPN app on my Samsung Smart tv. I care because on my tv when I go to Bundesliga there are no matches on demand. I saw the same on my phone until I went to settings and changed the edition to ESPN deportes where there are many matches on demand (in Spanish). The edition option under settings on the phone lists many different countries also. Is this because they don't necessarily know which country you may live in with the phone whereas the tv is definitely purchased in the U.S.? I just want to watch each week's Dortmund match and obviously I prefer to watch on my tv.
No idea how the Samsung Smart TV app works but on the ESPN apps on both my Fire and Roku, I scroll to the "Sports" column on the main screen, select "soccer" and then under "Explore More in Soccer" I select the league I want to watch (like the Bundesliga) and then scroll down to "on demand" and find the match I want to watch (sometimes interspersed with highlight shows for the league). Another option is to go to the magnifying glass icon in the upper right of the main screen which is search, and type in "Dortmund" (really just the first few letters of Dortmund) and the match should show up there too. I can't believe the Samsung TV app would be much different unless it's an extremely old version of the app and ESPN doesn't update for Samsung TV any longer. Also this is presuming you're an ESPN+ subscriber and if you are, you're signed in with your account. Otherwise you may only be getting Deportes options if you're only a cable subscriber.
I have ESPN+ in a Samsung TV from 2018 clicking on Bundesliga brings up Live & upcoming, bunch a games Made in Germany, bunch of games From the archives, bunch a games All options include Dortmund games ESPN app version 2.13.0
Really strange situation on espn+, I can not find the Bayern v Hertha or the Barcelona v Getafe match on the archive from this past Sunday. When I searched Bayern or Barcelona the match appeared but wasn’t able to be played. Anyone else have this happen using espn+? Any possible solutions? Thanks.
Thanks for the help. The magnifying glass worked. Corollla, this app still has kinks in it. Looking under leagues and choosing Bundesliga, sometimes I see On Demand and sometimes no. But using the magnifying glass search for Bayern and your match should come up. Again though, even the search feature seems to have kinks. Yesterday I searched Dortmund and the Dortmund v. Hoffenheim match came up. But today it didn't. However, when I searched Hoffenheim, the match did come up. I chatted with customer service and they're aware of these issues and said they are glad I brought it up so they can address the problems. Good luck!
I have found similar weird browsing/searching anomalies on ESPN+ I always have a tiny little bit of hope that customer feedback like this will end up being seen by some big muckety-muck at Disney/ESPN, and then common sense changes will start to happen. But I’m not exactly holding my breath! Ps. Identical hopes go for NBC and all the other streamers.
For what its worth, I find that the roku app for ESPN+ is really good. I never use the search function and I normally watch replays within 5 days of original airing, so take it with a grain of salt. But under the Roku app--like @Art Deco said, you can click on icons for "Soccer" or for the leagues. Once you are in your sub-category, scrolling to the bottom of the screen is normally where the replays are and you can just scroll through until you find a game on the bottom line. I have a TCL tv with Roku built in, so maybe it is different with the standalone roku stick/streamer. I've got an Amazon Fire stick and Chromecast as well, but I rarely use them with ESPN because the Roku works perfectly for me.
Meanwhile in Latin America, Disney has launched Star+, independently from Disney+. Unlike other regions, the service includes all ESPN content. On the other hand, ESPN Play has dropped all the exclusive content, so now it only airs the same content as the four linear channels. Therefore, Star+ will have exclusive soccer matches.
Sticking with the discussion of the ESPN+ app and various devices. I have a Firestick and a Roku. Currently I am using the Roku for various non-Sports related app reasons. But I am finding two weird experiences with the Roku and I'm wondering if others have had this problem (and found a solution). First, when a football match ends, about 75% of the time, the app quits and jumps back to the main roku menu when there is still 10-20 seconds left in the broadcast. This results in either missing the end of game stats (UEFA WCQ, for example) or cutting off the commentator's closing comments (CAF WCQ, for example). Second, sometimes the Roku app just quits and jumps back to the main Roku menu during the middle of a game. Luckily the app remembers where I was in the game, but this is a pain. The problem rarely occurs with other apps but I have had it happen with Netflix. Again, if you have experienced either/both of these problems and found a solution, I'd love to know what you did. Thanks.
What Roku do you have? Are you using the remote or the Roku app as a remote? Make sure that automatic updates are turned on, so you'll always be on the latest and greatest firmware.
Roku Player 4400X, I use the Roku remote with the box, and have automatic updates set. Made some other changes to the settings based on reading in various forums about reasons why the jump to the main screen might happen but I can't remember those moves at this point. Wired connection with 100mbps connection so that's solid.
Hmm... I've read about this issue, so it sounds like you're not alone. Could be the remote failing and forcing a double push when you hit the back arrow. I would try using the remote in the Roku app and see if you get the same result.
Watching the African WCQs on ESPN+ and there should be a special hell reserved for scorebug designers who fail to include a little stripe or swatch of the color reflecting the kit each team is using. There are nice mini-flags of each country next to their names but since almost every African nation has some combination of yellow, green and red in their flags they're of absolutely no help whatsoever.
