Here we go. Second leg of the RMC. Like last season, the Rapids need more than a win to retain thee cup going into the second leg. Hard to believe that they will play as poorly in this match as they did in the first. It appears that the with the exception of Namli, everyone else should be available, including Acosta and Esteves. Will Acosta and Kaye be on the pitch at the same time?
2-0 win, goals by Rubio and Barrios. FSL actually has a slightly better attack than us and a slightly worse defense. They've just picked bad places to break down this season which is why they're so far behind us in the standings. That said, they had one less day of rest than us and are travelling, while we have the home advantage and the confidence from last year's comeback. I think we make an effort to level the series but don't quite make it, meaning we have to go to Sandy and win in October. http://view-from-the-couch.blogspot.com/2021/08/lets-do-this.html
I don’t know what to make of tonight. I see no reason for us to expect anything but a win tonight. But then again, it is Salt Lake. We’re 14-24-11 (W-L-T) against them, and while we are a different team than years past, Salt Lake has still won the last 3 games played in Commerce City. Not to mention the 3-0 loss we’ve already put up this season against them. It’s hard not to go into a game worried for the result. Ironically, I’ll be flying in to Salt Lake City tomorrow night for a work conference Mon-Wed. Fingers crossed that the Rapids give me a reason to wear my Rapids gear with pride as I arrive at the airport.
A reminder for everyone, all 3 matches count towards the RMC this year, just like every other year not named 2020. Last year's decision to just count 2 of the 4 scheduled/3 played games was a one-time exception due to the pandemic. A second reminder, the series is decided on points, not goals. Goals is only a tiebreaker if the teams tie on points. So two 1-0 wins will win the Cup despite FSL winning 3-0 in the first game. Tied on points and tied on goals, then the current holders (aka us) retain the Cup. So a 3 goal win tonight, or better, means we only need to draw game 3. A 1 or 2 goal win tonight or a draw tonight means we need to win game 3. We won't talk about what a loss tonight means...

With the early SKC result Colorado goes into tonight's match in 2nd place on PPG in the West and 3rd overall in the league, behind Seattle and New England.
As a true Rapids fan, I still have to fight off the feeling that the sky will fall at any moment. That said, Rapids 2-1, with goals by Kaye and Shin.
This is going to be fun to see Kaye, Acosta, Price, and Bassett all on the pitch at the same time 𝐒𝐓𝐀𝐑𝐓𝐈𝐍𝐆 𝐗𝐈⚽️ 7:00 PM📺@AltitudeTV📻@AltitudeSR📱#COLvRSL@MyKingSoopers x #Rapids96https://t.co/OjpyqzChR0— Colorado Rapids (@ColoradoRapids) August 22, 2021
Fortunate to not concede there. Bassett not getting his mark as needed. Fans, and too many managers, think ANYBODY can play FB or WB. The defensive responsibilities are not easy.
It's gonna take patience. FB/WB is NOT easy to learn, especially for a guy who has never had much of a defensive role. As much as I get the "get our best players on the pitch", Cole is playing a new spot and will need time to learn.
Complete failure defending that FK. Pretty poor that we're playing 3 CBs and none of them get back to help Yarbrough. Fortunately the goal was disallowed.
I’ve unfortunately only been able to casually follow the team this year, and missed the preseason news, so I was very upset to see Pablo on Salt Lake’s sideline.
