I don't think there's any need to buy a midfielder now. I was probably the biggest advocate for getting a new 6, but Dahoud has been trusted and given that role. Let's see how he does. We always had depth in this position we just lacked top quality. If Dahoud proves to be great at the job, then Can and Witsel more than provide cover. We also have Kamara to develop. As for we need quality there not just potential. Barcelona are a cautionary tale as was our own financial mess in the 00s, but with Haaland and Bellingham certain to leave soon, I feel we can make a few gambles.
I agree that if we brought in a winger, we would need one to help us win now. As we actually have a chance to unseat Bayern this year and not next. However you know as well as I do that every single year we tend to bring in that Sancho, Reyna, Haaland, Bellingham type of youngster that we covet that will will be an asset sold off for future sales. Any idea on who that is right now? It seems that we havnt made our typical purchase of an up and comer and that seems to have happened every single year for the few years.
I agree with everything you have said. I have to be honest, but I have no clue who that would be. I would love Wirtz, but that is unlikely to happen. I also think it is important we sell Delaney, Wolf and Burki. That would clear up a decent amount of wages and bring some extra money to spend.
So 10 days left I the window. We have no funds and blew 30 million Euros on a player we don't need. We still lack a RB and a winger. We don't play with width and when we do our full backs have very poor delivery. Not to mention Haaland is not great at attacking crosses. Zorc is a legend, but he deserves a lot of criticism for leaving us in this position and allowing us to lose out the 75 million on Haaland.
How does this help us? Another stupid signing. We need to stop signing players just because they are available and actually do some squad building. We are badly in need of a RB and a right winger. So why the hell would we even be looking at a LCB if Schulz stays? Its infuriating seeming the board do this.
We have no idea how valid those 150-175€ million rumors were. I have my doubts that there was much to that. Logically, it would have been a no-brainer for us to accept it. And just a few days after those rumors, all we heard from the Chelsea side were the Lukaku rumors. Lukaku offers more experience, especially in England, otherwise the longterm solution for Chelsea for just a bit more money would have easily been the decision to get Haaland. Halstenberg is another Schulz type for me in the way he plays. Solid but not exciting or a particularly good fit for our style. As we've seen today, in our system without fast wingers, we relied more on the FBs to make the game wide on the wings and as anyone could have predicted, it failed horribly.
We do a lot of dumb things. Chelsea were definitely enquiring and it seems enquired about 130. I agree with this, but it's not just fast wingers it is good wingers. Beckham, Figo, Ginola, Solanum were all great wingers without being fast. We need to get over this obsession with speed. Sancho is not that fast. It's not speed, but tricky and the ability to beat a man We need. I watched Madueke a couple of times in the CL. I am not sure he is good enough, but he is the sort of winger we need.
I should have said that we play pretty much without any wingers at all, at least not those that stretch the defense. Occasionally, Passlack found lots of space on the wings. That just showed me that Freiburg only joined us in clogging up the center while they weren't that concerned about sudden attacks over the wings.
I dont watch Dortmund games for almost a year now, i just cant with that management and lack of ambition.. More and more fans every day realise that and dont support our front office anymore.. I just dont get it how you sell for that high and cant/wont bring some bigger name to replace.. Just cant figure it out... If you sell for example for 80M, how in the hell you are not able to bring some star CB for around 40M, 40M today is nothing, you still have 40M + money to cover your losses.. My days supporting this team are over because of Zorc and Watzke, thank you for all, but its over now, game over...
Yes it is sad. I think the interview Zorc gave summed things up. His only goal is to come 2nd, possibly win the Pokal and then make the CL last 16. With this mentality when Reus declines we will fall back into the rest of the pack. Yea it's like Guardiola says. When you have the ball you need to make the pitch as big as possible. When you don't have the ball you need to make it as small as possible. Any team facing us knows they don't really have to worry When the ball goes out wide so they can clog the centre. Whilst they will always have space to attack in the wide areas.
Zorc's mentality tells me that he was merely lucky to be part of the successful mid-1990s era, just like Watzke got lucky when he hired Klopp.
I can understand the club being careful with money but I think how you spend is key. Far too many signings in the €15-30m bracket have underperformed. Take this summer, it would have been possible to acquire Dumfries for €12.5m and Madueke for around €30m instead of spending €30m on Malen + whatever Halstenberg will cost. Not a huge difference in net spend on transfer fees, but 2 key areas addressed with players virtually guaranteed to increase in market value. On top of that the club always seems a step behind when addressing key weaknesses in the squad or coaching department. It seems to only take a bad run of form during the season to finally wake the management up to issues that seem pretty apparent from the outside. My guess it will only be in January that the RB/W issues are looked at, by which point it will probably be too late to salvage a title challenge.
At this point all we can do is hope that Kehl does better than Zorc, that Watzke finally decides to step down come 2024 and that his successor's ambitions go way beyond the club merely turning a profit.
I don't, but I also don't think it would have been hard to make his deal permanent since he was already familiar with the team and had built good chemistry over the course of two seasons.

Yes it's time we really pull up the terrible squad building. Buying random players they think are bargains whether they are needed or they fit. Buying youngsters just for so they can sell them on for a huge profit.
I think they are just really bad at scouting since the departure of Mislintat. You can cite the teenage signings but they were mostly no-brainers, it’s not like BVB had unique foresight. Especially with veteran players the track record is very spotty - especially in cases like Meunier and Schulz they just went out and bought “well-known fullback on the market” without thinking about whether their qualities would fit the style a top modern team would want to play.
After Hans flick left Bayern Munich, I think BVB would have a chance to fight them in this season, we have seen how Bayern ruled the UCL, destroyed Barcelona and beat Neymar's PSG under Hans Flick. Now he has left, I can say Bayern have lost half of their strength
Sadly Nagelsmann looks like a great manager too. We just don't have the squad to compete. Edit Not squad, we don't have the first 11. So it will be Bayern winning the league for the next 3-4 years. Leipzig will win the league before us.
Our back 4 yesterday is one of the worst defence in the league, Passlack, Schulz, Witsel.. Only Akanji is ok in that lineup. Lets be honest, we dont have a squad for serious competition, or to be more fair, we dont have a management to compete
