Maybe Losada or Frutos know of a 'keeper in Europe who is out of contract and under the age of 50 who can fill in.

I think that first goal we gave up set Nashville up for more success unfortunately.. and it was a very easy save to me. Hamid would have changed the course of this game.

Agreed, with Hamid in net we get at least a tie, perhaps the road win.

Nothing to add about Kempin--he's just really poor right now. I don't know what Seitz is doing in training but once again I'd like to see him get another chance.

if Seitz isn't better than that he should be waived. I'd expect there's a 100% chance he plays on Wednesday

I only counted two goals he should've had. So I can't pin this one on Kempin, as bad as he was, I believe they were straight up beaten. It was pretty even statistically, but they doubled us up in shots and shots on goal. They were just a little bit better in all facets of the passing game, statistically speaking. The better team won, never mind Kempin, on this day.

I like to remind the keepers on my kid's team that it's not their fault the other team got to take shots and PKs....

...but it is their fault their parents don't love each other anymore, and they need to internalize that self loathing and use it to STOP THE DANG BALL.

    Am I doing this right?

I was so disgusted after watching the game on Sunday, I decided to wait 24 before commenting. I needed time.

Bottom line, this was one of the worst overall performances by a DC United team in a while. Although 5-2 was bad enough it could have been 6 or 7-2 without some great goalkeeping by Brilliant and some lucky bounces.

First, Kempin was awful. Really, awful. My college keepers and some I played with in the NVSL were much better than what he showed tonight (In all fairness one of them was Kuykendall who was a damn good keeper). It was just the goals he let in, it was many facets of his play from poor positioning to lack of command in the box to butterfingers.

Second, our back three were exposed over and over again. We totally lack speed and the lack of communication between players was shocking especially between Birnbaum and Brilliant. I will give Brilliant some credit for the goal and his shot stopping on at least two occasions where Kempin was beaten. I just don't understand how we can have three center backs marking one forward, CJ Sapong, and he is wide open for free headers.

Nyman and Moreno were totally overrun in midfield; they did little to protect the backline. For some reason Nyman had an especially bad game. It could be that he was just physically and athletically outmatched. Moreno seems to be pulled in every which direction trying to plug holes but often being a couple of steps late.

Paredes and Gressel, usually our bright spots did ok but were constantly pinned back or were caught out of position. Nashville did an excellent job of exploiting the space behind the wingbacks whenever DC moved upfield or tryed to press. Nashville used that space to just kill DC and put a ton of pressure on DC's outside centerbacks. Paredes and Gressel did not have bad games but were made ineffective tactically and because many other players had poor performances.

Up front we had one goal from the run of play; a great ball clipped over the Nashville defense that Kamara slotted into the goal. Unfortunately, that was the exception to an otherwise poor attack. Arriola shows workrate and intelligent play but does not have finishing quality. But then again if Arriola had that he would be playing for a major club in Europe. Reyna regressed back to his mean which is pretty ineffective.

Flores came in but had no impact. I don't know if that's because he's not fit yet or he's the same ineffective player he was before he got hurt.

All in all a bad performance. We need to goldfish this game and move on. I just hope its not indicative of where we really are as a team and that the solid play of the last couple of week was not an illusion.

I wish I could play the game back again and really examine Nashville's movement off the ball. I think the beat us strategically by using our proclivity to press and swarm against us.

That said, Kempin had an absolute howler. I think Bill saves at least three of those and doesn't project on the penalty kick. Still scored two goals against one of the stingiest defenses in the league. We ceded the flanks on some occasions which was a) stupid and 2) not like us. Normally our CBs would step up to prevent that, and I think we were far to worried about the CFs. CFs need service. We generally played with much lower energy than usual. We missed Najar bigtime.

This lineup is a consequence of Losada attempting to win every game DCU plays in. The previous regime would have put out lineup designed to win or more realistically tie in Nashville and lose in New England.

I could not agree more vreat summary. It's too easy to out the loss on Kempin, i still think he should have stopped 2 of the goals. Your observations on the back line and especially the dmids were spot on.
That said, I mentioned once before pressing as a unit is very difficult to institute and they have already made amazing progress but you still see lapses including in how to transition back to defending without opening gaps and Nashville was really good at exploiting that.

If we ever get our best 11 on the field at one time we'll be very difficult to beat.
