Ajax drew with Leipzig 1-1 in the alps. First half was the normal starting lineup with Berghuis in for Antony (Brazil Olympian) at RW and Blind for Alvarez at DM. Stekelenburg was keeper. Nice 3rd minute goal by Tadic who was in alone on goal by a pass from Mazraoui. 2nd half saw lots of subs while Leipzig kept their first team on. Crap goal conceded after Timber missed a challenge at the half way line leading to a break. Steks was way too slow on coming out and was easily beaten. I don't know whether EtH will stay with him as #1 or use Passveer.

Even before that Blind was out of position. Timber was sucked in, came out second best in the dual. Eredivisie aside I think Ajax will find it going hard these season in CL. Berghius is only good in eredivisie. Blinds time is up and the more they drag with him, the more the misery for team. This is also set to continue in NT with the return of god father and father. Maybe they need to invest in a CM/DM. Gravenberch defending is also a big question mark. Cam make you cry sometimes.

  3. Blind's peak years may be over, but his tactical knowledge is unparralled in the Ajax team. You mention the defending of Gravenberch. I remember a match in which Blind directed Gravenberch into a defensive position, that otherwise would have resulted in a large defensive gap. Gravenberch is still a rooky player who needs to learn by experience and directions like Blind provided. There's nobody else who could do that except maybe Tadic.
Gravenberch has to incorporate the recognition what's needed in positioning. That's not something you're born with.

Ajax will do just fine. Alvarez will be back soon and take over the DM position. First team defended pretty well in the first half. Leipzig was the number 2 team on Germany

Looks like the Eredivisie is off ESPN+ in the states.

Yah I’m living in Canada and was using a VPN to use ESPN to watch Eredivisie. No one has picked it up yet in North America. Pretty disappointing

No, I have not. I'm happy to pay for matches of there is a legal way to do this. Weird that Ajax have a New York store and we can't watch games here

Poor defending and quick counters by PSV put Ajax in a hole that was sealed up when Tagliafico was deservedly sent off for a reckless challenge. Ajax played a man down for 50 minutes and conceded two more goals late in the 2nd half for a 0-4 loss. Better to screw up in a match that doesn't count in the standings and figure out what needs to be done to right the ship. When the teams were even up, Ajax had some good attacking play having a goal called back for a very narrow offsides and had a couple of good shots well saved. I don't think this team will do well with two 38 year old keepers but that's what they have. Tagliafico's best playing days are behind him and he seems to be getting more reckless in his tackles. Gravenberch played well as did Tadic. Berghuis will sit once Antony comes back from the Olympics. Haller looks like an over priced mistake. Klassen is a liability against quality teams because of poor ball skills. Timber had a nice match as did Mazraoui. Martinez was left isolated on both early goals getting no help at all. Blind had some good passes but cannot recover if he is out of position.

I imagine the roster is pretty much set barring the transfers of Neres and Tagliafico.

Wouldn't surprise me PSV is out of gas by March. I understand the need to be good now (need to go past Benfica) but the flipside of their vollgas football is a price to pay halfway the season.

    Really?
    That sucks.
Is there any official word on this?

  22. I really don't understand Ajax didnot pick up Marsman for free, who was the best goalie rated in alot of matches and in my opinion the best goalie whole season. Instead Overmars picks up two geriatrics. I can't think he would sign for a club in that Mickey Mouse league if Ajax offered him a deal.

Berhhuis was disappointing and I have long said this, he is not a big game players or in a high tempo game. Bad mistake by Ajax.

If it's off ESPN+, that really sucks and my Ajax watching will significantly decrease.

FWIW, the matches next week aren't listed on +. That would be a monumentally dumb move by the Eredivisie to get off + and go somewhere like GolTV/BeIN/etc. for an extra few dollars.

Nico hasn't been the same since 18/19. Loses focus. Gets out of control. He really needs a move. The problem is I just don't think many big clubs want him. Might be time for him to go to a mid tier PL/higher tier La Liga club. But a change of scenery would do him well.

As of right now the Eredivisie isn’t being broadcast anywhere in North America. This just can’t happen and would set the league back pretty far. Need to strike something ASAP
