This People fail to overlook that. Sure, we should have won regardless but if the ref actually did his fücking job and called those handballs the result would have been much different
The same has been the same for the majority of US/Mexico matches whether it’s leagues or National team since as far as I remember. Take the 2002 match, look it up. At minute 55 O’ Brian had a clear handball in front of ref in the area in favor of Mexico and ref doesn’t even call it. Give that goal to Mexico and the USA has to open up and the dynamics of the match changes. With the advent of social media and namely YouTube or any other video hosting platforms where we can look ok things for ourselves, it is undeniably obvious that when these 2 nations play each other, the referring is guided by US Soccer amf CONCACAF. In case you missed it, not that we needed a “tweet” to validate, CONCACAF put out that tweet clearly favoring the US. There isn’t any moral obligation nor is there any legal liability for refs to make intentional erroneous or hideous calls. Couple that with refs who are from countries that hide that animosity towards Mexican football during their refereeing swearing in ceremony (literally or figuratively). They let it all out during matches and tournaments like the 2 handballs not called/charged against the USA players early in the match and in minute 88:22 (2 handballs) during the last gold Cup and all the horrible refereeing during the ongoing CONCACAF Champions League. The US did have some opportunities to score but that is fútbol. Now that I thinking about it, Moreno’s goal should have counted in the Nations league as he was habilitado by Ream’s foot. It is one good thing about this expensive ass fuboTV: you can replay the matches. It is beyond suspect when a “ref” has an earpiece and is being directed by people somewhere where the general audience can’t see them. Chucky gets carried out on a stretcher but “nah, no big deal. Let me give Mexico’s team yellow card instead” - referring to Edson Alvarez. The dynamics of the match change depending on many factors. Hey but the stadiums were full.
There is a world of difference between the two. Being the dominator of the ball means you have more control over the game. You get to decide when to attack and the other team has to react to your every move, Gassing out their energy shadowing you all game long. Nearly all the teams who are superior dominate the ball because it is what leads to more victories. Anyways the reason why we struggle against bunker teams is due to a lack of technical quality. We don't cross well, nor do we have great ball control or off the ball movement. Improve in those areas and these losses will greatly dissipate. I say all of this to say I'm not impressed with a team bunkering to get results. It's most likely the offensive team who is to blame for not capitalizing on all the possession. So this last loss to me, is more on us than a Win for them.
"Improve in those areas" as if Mexico hasn't been failing on it for years and years. Even when Oswaldo Sanchez tries to fight the Honduras coach after a scoreless tie and then cries about the anti football on the interview. 18 years later, Oswaldo is super retired and in the same tournament it keep happening with Mexico suffering it in the opening match and losing in the final match against a B team. The acting as it "doesn't matter" is how the US dominated for match after match and we couldn't beat them outside Azteca for YEARS. And many acted as it was a fluke again and again to hide the fact they had our number and that strategy was working wonders for them.
I agree that it’s not impressive to see the nads parking the bus to get results, especially when they tell us ad nauseum that they’re forging a new identity. Given how the run of play went in both games, I’ve no doubt that nature will correct itself.
Exactly so it's on us not because they're so amazing or something. We have not reached the level of technical quality yet to bust bunkers with ease. But we're certainly getting there. Our depth is improving, we have better and better Ball control and our guys are playing more minutes in the Ligamx at younger ages.
We are definitely not getting there. We used to be great at defending set pieces during the Osorio era and now we are back to being a total calamity. We just lost to the US B/C- team in the Gold Cup final. Because time passes doesn't necessarily mean we are improving. This Gold Cup and the Nations League (where a crap Costa Rica team that would get crushed 4-0 by the US days later was able to get us to PKs just by hardcore bunkering) definitely shows that we aren't doing well in bunkering under Martino (forgot the Wales B team in the middle of WC qualifiers that also bunkered to a win against us earlier this year).
I said our talent is improving. No we're not there yet but everything from squad depth to players technical skills shows me we're improving. Now rather a manager is able to produce with said talent is a completely different subject all together.
didn't have the time to post this gem when I saw it the morning but I had a feeling it would get deleted throughout the day (and it did) so I'm I glad I saved it when I could lol. Insanity in its purest form
Sounds like those crazies on Twitter looking for something to be offended about and then posting nonsense expecting to be taken seriously
I'm not going to argue that the USSF needs to do a better job to attract the hispanic audience. That's a fair criticism. But how much of "not feeling welcome" was in Ochoa's head? To me, the key part of his story was whining about not getting the start against Costa Rica.— SoccerDad (@WVSoccerdad) August 12, 2021
Ochoa, unlike Musah, actually grew up in the US. It's not surprising he's attuned to the really dogwhistley parts of the federation and Musah isn't.
Tronquito never fails @ bringing laughs. From claiming MMLS surpassed LIGA MX in popularity (ratings say otherwise) to LeaguesCup preview. Inform Orlando got schooled by Santos Laguna's kids & America smoked Union amateurs
