So, like I remember when DC was good. When you went to a home game expecting to win.

We're not there yet. But you aren't surprised when we have a performance like this (or the last game I went to where we won 7-1).

This is good. This is change. This is the right direction.

And you said a coaching change wouldn't work.

    Vamos!

(unlike some posters I have been drinking.)

You can check in the ref forum, but I think about 3 years ago that FIFA all but eliminated the “triple penalty” (PK, red, suspension.). I think the only time they call that now is a Suarez vs. Ghana type handling.

It's "fine"? Wow. You know it won't kill you to say Kamara is playing well just because he didn't in Olsen's system. $400K is hardly a crazy huge salary.

MLS current top 5 scorers, goals, salaries:

    Raul Ruidiaz -- 11 -- $2 million
    Gustavo Bou --10 -- $2.1 million
    Chicharito -- 10 -- $6 million
    Daniel Salloi -- 10 -- $144K
    Ola Kamara -- 9 -- $420K

Nani (ORL) and Adam Buksa (NER) each have 8 goals and salaries of $2.5 and 1 million, respectively.

Kamara is producing. Period. He's on pace for an 18-goal season. In MLS in 2021 an 18-goal scorer for $400K is a bargain (and yeah, Salloi is on pace to be an insane bargain).

    From the LOTG:

Where a player commits an offence against an opponent within their own penalty area which denies an opponent an obvious goal-scoring opportunity and the referee awards a penalty kick, the offending player is cautioned if the offence was an attempt to play the ball; in all other circumstances (e.g. holding, pulling, pushing, no possibility to play the ball etc.) the offending player must be sent off.

Mensah didn't attempt to play the ball. That should have been DOGSO red.

    Upon further review…

I just saw the condensed highlights from MTL- ATL, and either that ref messed up, or I’ve exaggerated how hard it is to get the Triple Punishment.

EDIT my post would have looked a lot better two minutes ago.

You ought to be able to tell from my posts that I was drinking, too. I was drinking Red Stripe, which was on sale at Rodman’s. Good beer.

The real scandal would seem to be Salloi only making 144k. He's been a very important player for them for a couple of years already

It's remarkable that over at Reddit, some people still think Kamara isn't the answer because he's too inconsistent and has blown too many other chances already and has scored too many goals from the penalty spot. Ugh.

I think he's worse. Vermes is just an asshole but he seems to own it and doesn't take anything too much to heart. Porter comes across as sour and thin-skinned on top of the douche factor.

When it is hot and humid nothing beats a Red Stripe. Honeymooned at “the Caves” in Negril and Red Stripe, Ganja, and Blue Mountain Coffee was provided in each room.

Nice surprise to wake up and watch today. Seems like the karma gods are working for us.

shit on Gressel, he produces. Shit on Reyna he scores.

We do seem to be paying a high price in return with injuries and suspensions. But if it adds up to wins, I’ll take it.

anyone have a really bad game yesterday we can attack?

    Thx,

    Jay!

Pretty sure the ref told Brillant he really didn’t want to send him off with DC up two and getting a penalty to boot.

    Thx,

    Jay!

Nice game from the reserve backline. They aren't good passers at all, but they positioned themselves wonderfully, won every header, blocked shots and covered for each other. I was really loving Najar, HInes-Ike and Pines, they had great chemistry but I'm pleasantly surprised to see the backups have some chemistry also.
Speaking of passing. The backline in particular, but the whole team really, is starting to play out of danger rather than try and play through danger. I think beginning the season focusing on combination play/build from the back will serve them well, but now they can also be pragmatic/direct.

Exactly. I was going to say Salloi is on pace to get himself a big, fat raise.

If he really said that, that's total BS.

I'm not a fan of refs treating fouls differently based on what's going on in the game. The ref shouldn't give a team a break just because they're losing.

When Kamara received the stolen ball and cruised in on the goalie for what became his first goal I remember being worried that he was being too casual and slow in his approach. I was sure he would be caught from behind, but I guess he knew what he was doing.

He had that same kind of composure in Miami in almost the same situation, turnover and an open shot, although he took that from further out as opposed to in on the keeper.

Speaking of keepers, I thought Kempin looked like shit last night, in deference to his prior showings. He was way too close to his near post on a first half shot that zipped just wide, then he bungled that ball over the top early in the 2nd half and then he just stood there versus challenging the shooter on the 2nd CLB goal. You need to pressure the shooter and give him a chance to hit you with the ball from 8 yds by closing the space between you and him. He stood their on his line covering the minimum amount of space possible. Knowing your angles is the most fundamental thing of goalkeeping after catching the ball. A better shooter would have seen that and not risked missing wide by being too fine as if the keeper had the angle covered properly.

No red because there was another defender nearby so not truly DOGSO. And I doubt any ref would say that. They might think it, but saying it is a whole different ball of wax.

I knew Reyna was fast, but there was a guy he was chasing back in the first half and it looked like he had a turbo cheat code or something. I wonder who is faster, Reyna or Paredes.

That other defender was nowhere near close enough to the play to make a difference. He was closer to Kamara than Paredes/the ball. It was a missed red by the referee, all day.

I am ok with a yellow, there was still a defender in the middle.

Zero chance that defender makes a play to deny a goal scoring opportunity.

Also not even the reason the referees gave as to why DOGSO wasn't given.

I think you're reading too much into things. He is producing and fine means fine. Like "that's a fine job you're doing." I should say that I don't really care for "predicted goal output" anymore than I would average past performance with current performance necessarily. He's a good value for 400k right now, but he's not getting paid more because "Ola Kamara" doesn't sell merchandise or seats. Chicharito or Nani could be on a few goals and still be worth a couple of million bucks.

Well, then Nyeman shouldn't have gotten red. There was a defender in the middle there, too, but the player also had to run 30 yards to goal yet.
If Nyeman is a red, Mensah is a red all day is what I'm saying.

it's a good point. I happened to go to a game in Portland several years ago and a Portland fan behind the bench was heckling Porter. Instead of ignoring the guy he kept engaging with him. And after they won he made some gestures in the fan's direction. He is a total douche
