Wikipedia says he was an Asst. Coach with Philadelphia Union, and a GK by trade. Is he coming to replace Zach Thornton?

I hope they didn't have to give up any Garberbucks to get him.

Actually, looking at his Wiki page, maybe he's being brought in either to coach the GK at Loudoun or do some GK work with the Academy.

We have a ton. I am still waiting to see what we'll do with all of it. Does anyone know how much we can carry forward.

Robertha is out at least 6 weeks, as he's been placed on the injured list with an adductor strain.

This team has the grit and determination of our previous iteration with a clear tactical game plan (that is a work in progress requiring more fitness and talent than we currently have). I'm pretty cool with it.

This sounds suspiciously like hope. I know that as a moderator you think you can get away with that shit but we will disabuse you of that notion.

I've seen Ted Lasso so I am acutely aware that it is the hope that kills you.

    I counter that with:

While belief is good, it truly always is the hope that kills you. That's what life really is about.

I've had too much truly terrible stuff happen to me and those around me in a little over 40 years. Like Pandora, hope is all I have left. While it was fun in a purely soccer way to wallow in the misery that was DCU for the last 15 years (though I've been there since HS in 1996) I now try and find the hope where I can and make it where I can't.

Some people lean on spirituality and or religion to mitigate that but I've never been able to square those beliefs with the way I perceive things.

There is nothing more soccer than the camaraderie of following a terrible team. Football is misery best appreciated with company.

Besides. What's more of an indicator of character than following a terrible team?

Ah, but that is the hope that kills. The camaraderie, the hope that it engenders. A slippery slope my friends. I'm not saying I don't have hope, I do, I also know it will kill me.

It's pretty cool that we are playing well with several positions desperately in need of an upgrade. Could be a fun ride when we get some reinforcements.

Roche has a new PitchPass interviewing Griffin Yow. Interesting takes on being a Homegrown and what being an Academy player at his time and what it is now when considering signing a pro contract. Spoiler alert -- remember the Chris Durkin saga? He was the guy who preceded Yow from the Academy.

You are on a spiritual path but there is an additional step if you want to reach enlightenment. You can't just wallow in the misery-you must embrace the suck or Embratsu in the words of some RSL fans.

Ok, now is the opportunity for you guys to jump me. But I will have to admit this team has improved. Not to the level of adding another star but they are better than they have been, Rooney years aside, the past few years. :cautious:

We all love Olsen and I, for one, wanted him to be the man here forever like Sir Alex, but it was time to move on.
Fortunately, we hired Losada and not Armas. I'll take Olsen for another 10 years rather than replace him with Armas.
I only wish Olsen had found an assistant like Losada, someone to guide the tactical side and form the group identity beyond grit. Olsen would make a great figurehead, symbolizing the history and championship pedigree while still being 'one of the guys' that players want to crash through a wall for.

I agree with Yowza that Olsen would "make a great figurehead," and am a bit surprised the team hasn't found such a place for him. I guess I can see why he's not an Asst. Coach, or Loudoun coach, unless it's as "Motivational Coach." but surely there is something he could do, even on a part-time basis, for the club. But I don't want him intruding on Losada at all - Chad Ashton is more than enough.

Ben is for all practical purposes done at the club. For all the promising personnel moves this year, the club ownership have shown very little in the way of being able to leverage an asset like Ben in a new role.

My suggestion is task him as a club ambassador in the District specifically. He is a DC resident. He could be the person who helps the club identify opportunities in the city to connect with the residents.

What Ben gave this club over his playing and coaching career is going to be hard to eclipse. Jaime gave us more on the pitch than any other player but never progressed beyond the youth/u23 level as a coach. Bill if he transitions to coaching or front office when he hangs up his gloves someday is the only person I can think of who might challenge Ben's contributions.

Would be nice to see Ben around as a club ambassador but I'm not going to hold my breath. He does deserve a statue at the stadium though.

what does Ben want to do? Maybe he's not interested in that sort of role. Pablo's interview a while back made it sound like he was enjoying some time away in his art studio

Yes, he isn't going to be a suit and obviously he wouldn't be involved in coaching or player selection. The ambassador role would give him flexibility to pursue his other interests while serving the club in a brand new way.

He might nor want anything to do with soccer again but he has left that door open. I would hate to see him coaching somewhere else when he has such strong roots here.
