I think the new options on the south end of the stadium are probably good. I haven’t sat all around the stadium but it seems like there are 4 categories of seats. Standard seats around the bowl, supporters section, Lexus club and private boxes. It seems like club seats, which use the role of between standard seating and boxes, take up a pretty low percentage of seats at BBVA. At Minute Maid for example the club goes from the left field foul pole to at least past 1st base and probably further. It seems like a much larger percentage of seats than what BBVA has.
So I went to the doubleheader on Monday and sat in the supporters section. I had never seen a game from that angle and I liked it, another reason I want to sit behind the goal.
Good on ya! My lil' brother and I began standing behind the goal at Houston Hotshots indoor league games in 1994 down at our city's old Summit. That hooked me for life as far as where to stand at Houston home soccer matches! Also, for one half we get to heckle the opposing goalie and in the other half we are there to back our own team's goalie.
The thing is, I have 5 kids. The lack of a place to eat in the stadium has been a source of frustration for me. A simple table is a selling point for me. We almost always eat at the game so an all inclusive food and beverage option with a table is attractive to say the least. The Lexus club seats, are simply too much, I'm hoping the new all inclusive seats are more reasonably priced.
I don't know how much the renovations will be costing, but I hope this isn't the only thing the organization will be investing in. Without significant $$$ investment long term in player acquisitions they'll have a nice stadium, but will the people come?
This is much easier to announce months ahead of time than new player acquisitions. It’s pointless to think about this money vs roster money as you have different timetables to announcing updates/upgrades.
We still have to wipe away an eight year gap of mismanagement from new player signings to youth investment to fan engagement and growth. So it stands to reason that our newest owner needs at least half that amount of time, another four years of hard work and cash injection, to at least to turn this once mighty ship of ours around. Think of where our club will be in 2025 cuz the repairs and upgrades might take that long. It is trying to be so patient but we all should be.
I can't remember which one of you smart**** said this but...no one wants to go to a stadium to watch it depreciate.
While I appreciate the upgrades, they don't mean much to me. I honestly don't care about the stadium my team plays in. They could play at HISD's Delmar field and I would go, I care about my team, not the surroundings.
Evidently you've never caught a game at Brentford, or one of the other Championship stadiums in London
Whenever anyone tells me I'm a fair-weather Houston soccer fan I have two words for them: Nebo Bandovic. When you tell me you've seen Nebo pass to Paul Dougherty then you can criticize me!
Astros put in two new clubs this offseason (one was done after 2019 but no fans in 2020), one down left field line on suite level and one upper deck right field. Nicely done.
Three observations on the new stadium renovations: 1) The Dynamo sort of got caught building their stadium at a sandwich time where location was more important than in-stadium amenities. Thus we got a "good" location (I'd argue how valuable the location really is) but also a fairly bare-bones stadium. A few years later - and with greater ownership investment - SKC got a gorgeous stadium about twice the cost in a location not anywhere near downtown. All of the new stadiums (Minnesota, Austin, Columbus, Cincinnati) are magnitudes of order better than BBVA in terms of design and amenities. They also cost a lot more. This renovation is a bit of a band aid approach for a short term bump. 2) Correct me if I am wrong, but at least the south seats are on metal platforms not concrete so it may be easer to renovate those seats and sell them as under canopy than any real substantial modifications. Jamey Rootes was clear they were going to do a full stadium assessment but I can't believe these renovations are the result of that report. A full report would need a lot of engineering analysis and cost estimates. 3) No one should be surprised, but by my calculations this reduces stadium capacity by maybe 1,000 - 1,200 seats. They’ve probably figured the days of selling 22,000 are long gone
Wow, a little late but not inaccurate Ben Guill is a minority partner n @HoustonDynamo ownership: “I’m excited 2still have a small piece-We have a new owner-He says he’s gonna commit to spend money&make us better on the field-That’s what needs to happen..Shame on me&the previous ownership group 4not making it happen” pic.twitter.com/0qQwCff8jW— Mark Berman (@MarkBerman_) July 21, 2021
Not taking a shot at you amigo mio but us soccer fans in Houston did have a pro soccer team in the USL and we played at Delmar Stadium in 2001. Actual live outdoor men's association football was on hand to be enjoyed by those that would care about backing a soccer team with Houston on their chests. Slight problem was that hardly anyone that claimed to enjoy live outdoor soccer came out and backed the players. So as I have witnessed it, Houstonians demand a quality stadium in all the sports played here in our nation or else the talk is cheap and people won't go. Even our city's Mayors will let a team walk outta town when a stadium in town needs upgrades and thinks said upgrades are a mere bluff.
I know you're right, I'm just speaking for me. I've never understood why a stadium is all that important in terms of how fancy it is. But, a business must give the consumer what they want.
I don't know if anyone here has seen this, but it's a sad commentary on the previous ownership. I mean didn't they see what the problem was? Didn't the drop for over 12K to under 6k season ticket holders give them a clue that there were massive problems. Didn't they monitor social media and listen to the fans and season ticket holder who told them what the problem was? Probably not, they listened to the replacement FO. Nope! The regime we were left with under Canetti completely side stepped their running of our club's following and hard earned good will in town right into the ground. To make matters worse, as many of us recall, our FO then did not go looking for solutions from us fans but went long on blaming us fans for not showing up any more as the core problem.
I agree that it is a bit overrated, but BBVA got stuck in between bare bones Robertson - in which every one had limited expectations - and newer places like SKC, Austin, Minnesota which are closer to Minute Maid Park in terms of amenities than most MLS stadiums. But AEG wanted a Downtown stadium so they had to do it with limited land and with the original concert non-compete. There's no way you can always future-proof things but the Dynamo did it a bit on the cheap so some things have become more noticeable quicker than maybe they would have. NRG had some of the same issues, technology moves so fast now.
Today something amazing happened. All of these ideas on this thread lead to a meeting with @DW_Dynamo to discuss. I know times are tough but they’re listening to fans. You want change, think about how to implement and be the voice of change. Thanks for the time. #holditdown pic.twitter.com/wp2HdKw01V— Orange Overhaul 🦊🍊⚽️ (@OrangeOverhaul) August 1, 2021
So the sports deck seats are going to be too rich for my blood. Cheapest is 4700, that's two tickets, food, beverage and parking. Not a bad deal mind you, just too much for me. I already drive a Lexus, so the parking is a wash. The extra money I just can't justify. I was hoping it would be more like 2 or 3k. Plus I'll be buying another seat soon anyway. I've got too many damn kids man.
