If the plan is the draft starts on the 30th July, iirc everyone will sit between AEDT or the US timezones.

So there should be a few sweet spots where we can knock over quite a few picks when it is agreeable to US and Australia,

    namely what I'm going to call the optimal one: Aus 9am-2pm zone which matches with EDT's 7pm-12am and;

the filler one: the Aus 8pm-12am zone which matches the. EDT's 6am-10am.

so just throwing out there these rough timeframes:

draft order completed anytime next 24-48 hours (July 28)

player pool saved 29th july, 24 hours before draft starts

1st picks anytime the 30th july, (12am EDT or 3pm AEDT).

So long as the 2 aus picks aren't too far apart, there should be a few sweet spots of picks that could allow times between those 2 sweet spots to flow nicely without timezones playing too much in dragging the pace down.

Id expect each 24 hour period to bring at least 4 picks each with with a poor draft order with the aussies. The sweet spot should offer at least 2 picks for each person, the filler spot should offer most players at least 1 pick, maybe 2 if everyone is active, and between these 2 spots, you should manage 1 more pick each. Given it is over the course of the weekend, id imagine peoples schedules are a lot more flexible so it could even be more rapid.

This gives us an estimated finish of 3rd or 4th of august, around the day that the other drafts are starting.

I'm ok with this start date, but there is a possibility we hold off for a few days if people wanted to pick teams closer to the season starting.

of course if i haven't covered a time zone, my maths goes out of the window and the draft wont be as smooth as I'm predicting

I'll defer to those who have been in the league longer, but I would prefer to push it out ~1 week to get closer to the start of the season and the close of the transfer window

Personally I would be fine with that but having two Australians in the mix does mean we have to move fairly quickly and I believe there is a 15 hour time difference between Central US and Eastern Australia.

    But everyone should weigh in

I'm good with starting a little bit later. Since the first day of the PL season is Aug 13 - maybe start a week before that (if everyone thinks we would be able to coordinate that?)

My thoughts are we should see how "active" people feel, if a few have a busy schedule over the weekend then its going to slow things down a lot, and the start date is justified

Just adding to my previous post, if its a weekend I should be able to dedicate a decent proportion of time to the draft as needed, during the week ill be able to respond while im at work only if im in phone service areas (which at this stage i should not be working in those areas save a day or two).

I can be available all day time hours - day or weekend - and can do proxy picks for anyone who is offline for a while.

I am working from home with bigsoccer open in the other tab :)

What if we started on Thursday 8/5? That would give us a full 7 days to complete the draft with a full weekend as well

Do we have a new Sand league code? The one I currently have on the epl site says Sand League 2020-2021 but we should have a new one for 2021-2022 is that right?

If the current one is ok then that’s fine with me even though it says 2020-2021 instead of 2021-2022, but just wanted to confirm that we didn’t need a new code for this season

There are always proxy picks. That is when you send your picks while you are out (asleep) to someone on the other end of the draft but in a time zone to post to keep things moving. Happens a lot in the middle and end.

    For example:

First pick: Lloris GK TOT 5.5
If not available: Scmeichel G LEI 5.5

These can be sent via pm / email / text

typically, we like to finish the draft about a week before the season starts so we can have the post draft, pre-season squad adjustment period.

The Player's list is locked when we commence the draft. we allow first come first served squad adjustment picks starting 24 hours after the last draft pick. This allows the managers to fight over big signings after the draft started and adjusting your squad for transfers out of the premier league or injuries.

That said, I am NOT available on the 30th, I'm travelling that day. I can start on the 31st and we could start as late as the 3rd or 4th. Based on past experience, the draft should take about 4-5 days. We normally get in 3-4 rounds per day with the use of proxy picks to keep the draft moving, especially with the large difference in time zones.

I'll do the draft randomizer later today to set the draft order. Off to swim my 2000 yards
