I felt insult by your sentence. The past and current of Ramirez has nothing to do with how good or how bad Aberdeen is. DO NOT INSULT OTHER PEOPLE, PLEASE!

With all the rumors, I wouldve expected a move to a different country other than Scotland.

At the end of the day, not all players are going to have a very nuanced understanding of the European soccer landscape and how being at each club might impact their careers. Celtic/Rangers are "big" clubs by name and history but not currently competitive with most big clubs in europe. Will this move open doors in the future if he does well? is it truly his best option?

Even agents might not be so well-informed all the time...or might steer players unwisely/selfishly. Gotta wonder if he consulted GB/USSF on this move. Would be interesting to know.

EDIT: Hibs? wow...very curious decision, imo.....wonder who is advising him

Hibs. Never would have guessed that. It’s head scratcher and certainly one that raises an eyebrow, Not sure what to make of this. I wonder what the persuader was to come to Hibs? I am only asumming the Belgium rumors were just that…. rumors and there wasn’t an offer. Oh well….. Mueller should be a huge hit at Hibs. He should be able to do extremely well with the very direct play of the SPL. Easter Road is a really cool stadium and Hibs are in the Conference League but will probably be bounced before Mueller arrives.

He’s repped by ICM Stellar Group. The Stellar Group - before being acquired by ICM - was and is still a pretty big player in the agency world. But I don’t know who in the Stellar Group is Mueller’s actual agent.

yeah underwhleming....must have just been hellbent on leaving MLS and didnt have other offers. its very curious.

theres a pattern developing over the last 5 - 10 years of the players who dont extend with MLS before leaving making underwhleming moves like this...very curious.

Probably sold as a stepping stone or lily pad.

Do we have a history of American players using a Scotland as an entry point to bug European leagues?

The most recent was Polster at Rangers which didn’t get him very far. Perry Kitchen also didn’t have great results.

Agreed. Combing through a bunch of articles the press and the supporters seem pretty excited using descriptions like “massive coup”, “big signing”, “in-demand striker”, “key international”, blah blah blah. So it sound like Mueller will walk into a Hibs with open arms. That’s always a plus. I will say in that several of the articles I skimmed, I did not know Hibs was owned by American-Peruvian Ron Gordon, based in Miami, who’s made his fortune in the broadcast media and TV production world. It was stated in several articles he is looking to tap into the American market. Maybe that was the persuader I mentioned above?

if you parse the wording of the ORLAND FC press release about the move...i thought it was curious how they mentioned he would stay as a player for the team even though he is leaving. seems obvious. but also maybe points to frustrations on both sides....like maybe ORL would consider benching him over this...or worse. but they cant bc that would be such bad optics. theres gotta be more to this story than we know now.

I’ll be honest. I hate this type of move. He’s not playing at a higher level than MLS, and he’s not going to a club that develops players for playing at a higher level.

These are the types of players MLS clubs need to keep to raise the quality and prestige of the league.

MLS teams usually keep these players. Nothing will ever be 100% and some players will take strange turns with their careers.

I am sure Orlando's final offer was better than the Hibs deal Mueller accepted.

Yeah, it’s becoming apparent that good European clubs are paying attention to MLS. I know that all of these guys want to play at the highest level, but if they can’t get offers from the Serie A, Bundesliga, and Belgian clubs that are clearly scouting them, then their best bet is to buckle down in MLS.

God, some American players and agents still really overrate Scotland in league quality and as a conduit to better things. Also, if you can't get an English WP, but you want to go to an English-speaking country, I guess that's your option.

Gregg really screwed this guy over too for him to not have more showcases and a WP. And Chris/his agent really screwed themselves over too if they weren't open to non English-speaking countries.

Incidentally, their American owner, and them being moneyballers, was likely among the selling points. Supposedly trying to make them the 3rd "big club" out of Scotland, but then again aren't they all...

Hmm, not seeing why he chose Hibs from my outside perspective. I guess the offers weren't there. He really could have used this GC to stir up some interest.

One uninformed between-the-lines read on the move is that this was the best deal he could get without a trial, or close to it, and since Orlando reasonably wasn't excited about letting him disappear for job interviews all summer he decided to go with it rather than take his chances in the winter window.

hmm...yeah.....there were all sorts of rumors from other clubs though.

just seems the whole being a free transfer should improve the outcome....this, given the prior rumors, seems a worse outcome. seems reasonable to think he could've worked out a bit better.
