But he is the one that chooses the line up and formation and gives them instructions. In this game when tactics needed to be changed it was the responsibility of the coach to make the change and he didnt. And im so sick and tired of the narrative that this team is old. NEWSFLASH our teams are always the oldest in tournaments and on the rare occasion that we do lose having "old" players was not the reason for the loss!!!
The Sweden result might have derailed some plans to get all the alternates onto a game-day roster at some point. For example, if US had 3 points, maybe it's less fraught to use some of the alternates for NZ? I'm curious how this game day roster thing is going to play out ... (and, yes, I understand that getting alternates medals is not the end goal). The changes only for this Olympics are that gameday rosters are still 18 players but all 22 players are available for selection to them. So, there's potential awkwardness for a medal-rounds team with, say, only one player who hasn't made a gameday roster. Important for players.— Jeff Kassouf (@JeffKassouf) July 20, 2021
You know after careful thought about Williams, perhaps it is her nerve that is messing her game up at the national level. After all she is trying to be a part of such prestigious team. She is indeed a really good player at club level and no one is denying that but now that she is officially on the roster for a world championship tournament, maybe the NWSL Williams will finally show up. I'd like to see her start on Saturday over Heath. Good point. If however the US bounce back and play like they are the current WC winners and score multiple goals (to at least level the goal deferential) in the first half on Saturday then I don't see why the alternates should not be given a chance to grace the pitch towards the end of the game. On a side note, Sweden bringing those teenager untested subs in the second half last night must have been a very painful shiv to an already damaged USWNT egos...
Swedes are the antithesis of Americans in so many ways - egos aren’t celebrated, accomplishments aren’t bragged about, and the word sauna is pronounced properly.
This is the most magnanimous post I have ever seen here and I will sing these praises, with you upprv, right to the rafters The more we lose the better it is for 'progress'. I mean this screengrab looks like an Alfred Waud painting... Gotta be that punch in the teeth we require.
Hanna Bennison wasn't excatly untested, she had half a dozen caps before, although no Championship ones. And she is one teenager not several. Last time we had a teenager play in an Olympic WoSo game was 25 years ago, her name was also Hanna and she turned out very well. Hanna Ljungberg.
Btw Norway is one of just two countries in the World that USA have played more than once and have less than 70% win rate againts (counting draw as half a win). The other is of course Sweden. Btw. playing another game against Poland to got the % against them to 75 would be a good idea, doing that against Czechoslovakia is I fear no longer possible.
Ok. But did u field a team of 37-year-olds w a collected number of 1 knee w out synthetic ligaments? No. You didn’t
oops well Sweden has Abba and Norway has centipede Norwegian dancers so same odd Scandinavians to me.
Actually she was 17 if just barely (17 years and 3 weeks I think), her debut as a WNT player was against USA, 7 November 2019, Sweden lost 2 to 3. I think that was Vlatko's first game in charge of the USWNT.
Wait till they win a couple gold medals and a couple world cups and then let me know about their egos. Also, Zlatan says "hello". LOL!
Dance and/or song is an important part of Scandinavian celebrations. Just check midsummer or Jul (the later what Christmas is called in the three main Scaninavian languages). You should probably be glad that they didn't have any pickled herring available.
