Source: FC Groningen actively scouting Chris Mueller of Orlando City.— MLS Transfers (@MLSTransfers) November 19, 2020 On a unrelated note, I wish this forum had a one all rumors thread
Not even sure MLS Transfers is credible enough to be a source of rumors. According to Transfermarkt, Mueller's contract expires at the end of this season. Hell of a contract year. Plus he should make his nat'l team debut. The Eredivisie is one league he may have the flexibility to go to as a non EU. Would be surprised if he attracted enough interest to go to the BL straight away. Maybe he could get a couple trials. Pellegrino, hook us up for a 1st time. If TM is right, Portugal could be interesting, because he has connections between Nani & Rosell. Braga may have use.
Never trust TM when it comes to MLS contract length because of almost every contract having option years. He has either a 4 or 5 year contract from when he was drafted if all option years are exercised.
Am I the only one who gets a little freaked out when one of our players is referred to as a Nürnberg Trialist?

Seems to be some Belgian interest: (Sub required) https://theathletic.com/2705295/202...ociedad-chris-mueller-belgium-john-hackworth/
Clubs named: Three top-flight Belgium clubs are reportedly interested in Orlando City's Chris Mueller: RSC Anderlecht, KV Oostende and OH Leuven.Leuven have already made an offer, per @TheAthleticSCCR. pic.twitter.com/bayEN5Nv6U— USMNT Only (@usmntonly) July 13, 2021
Also: Sam, Paul and Jeff report that Orlando received an offer from Leuven for Mueller. A number of clubs interested in him from the Netherlands, Belgium and Germany— Tom Bogert (@tombogert) July 13, 2021 He's on a free. This time it's not a false alarm. MLS would like to keep it your Leuvens and not Anderlecht, otherwise he's definitely gone between the price and opportunity. Ya know what would have helped fortify the Anderlecht-level? A run at the GC and/or creating optics he's a must-start impact player w/ Orlando. So it had to be prevented. Hopefully this only motivates Chris more to stick it to them.
The article said that Mueller would prefer to move in the summer to better integrate into a new team ahead of the start of the upcoming European season. Maybe he was like de la Torre and asked to be left off because I agree, Mueller has certainly looked a lot better than Lewis.
Yea, he wants it, but it's not been in the works. He's played since then. Orlando would really be doing him a solid to release him midseason or for some meager fee. The benefit of him potentially helping them win a championship is much greater. This is one reason they're reluctant to sell Daryl yet.
Really would make very little sense for them to let him leave before the end of the season, they probably can’t even crack $1M on the fee at this point. Wish it were different but if they’re acting in their own self interest — should just ride it out and try to win the title.
Orlando City's Chris Mueller, whose MLS deal expires this winter, has signed a pre-contract to join a European team after this season, multiple sources say. He and Orlando were in negotiations but did not reach a deal. Expecting him to land in Scotland on a free transfer.— Steven Goff (@SoccerInsider) July 21, 2021 UPDATE: Orlando City SC Statement Regarding Forward Chris Mueller. Really hope it's either Celtic or Rangers, and I think he could get a contract at one of those places, or else I think he would've been better served on the continent.
I’d be shocked if it’s not Rangers or Celtic. I haven’t heard a peep of Mueller’s name on any Celtic podcast, blogs, etc. To be honest, both teams could use a Mueller-type player. But as i type this….. maybe don’t overlook Aberdeen. Stephen Glass obviously has MLS ties and he’s already signed Christian Ramirez form Houston.
Aberdeen would be pretty disappointing as Ramirez wasn’t exactly a sensation in Houston and hasn’t been good in MLS in awhile. I don’t really get this Scotland move at all. Celtic/Rangers isn’t totally nonsensical but if you go any further lower then that it makes no sense. Like most everyone else, I’d prefer a different destination. Not my life though.
I just think Aberdeen is a huge pay cut from whatever Orlando was offering. Perry Kitchen did that for Hibs over a DCU offer but that was an epic mistake. He took an enormous cut for 0 gain Mueller, I think, has more sense. Also, there is a huge difference between Ramirez and Mueller. Ramirez couldn’t get time for Houston. Mueller is an important player for a much better team
Agreed. Prefer not to see him in Scotland but if it is one of the Old Firm that probably beats OH Leuven or KA Oostende who he’s been liked to.
