I say that he’s a 21 year old, young forward that scored more goals than anyone his age or younger outside of three world class players and coincidentally another American! it’s objectively ridiculous to write off this player, yet a lot of posters here seem to be doing that. Pretty silly. But carry on!
I'm not writing him off but I'm not excited about him. I believe Aaronson, for example, has the same skill set but is much more goal dangerous. I'd rather play BA at the 9. He's a hard worker and he brings a consistent level, those are good qualities. I believe that's a good starting point but the 9 must also bring goals. I hope he's banging them in in Germany. He's certainly still young enough to make a leap, I think that's what everyone is hoping for, especially Bremen.
I’m definitely in the pro-Sargent camp, but I don’t think anyone in the “Sarge needs to show more” camp has written him off, even Ind11 who hilariously prefers Zardes. I think it’s fair to say that Sargent needs to make much more aggressive runs into the box, not just hang around the 18 trying to pivot or play a 1-2 when we’re moving towards goal.
Man I’m worried about him carrying the flop stigma at such an early stage of his career. He’s pretty consistent because of his soccer brain but is he athlete enough to play in the big 5? He makes Jorginho look like a physical specimen.
He’s of the age, where you could see him drop that little boy persona that he still has and hit the gym to earn all those tats he already has.
Twellman stated it'll be easy to achieve those add-ons. We'll see. Gianluca Busio to Venezia from Sporting Kansas City, done deal since two days and now at signing stage. We've been seeing smoke for a while on a Cannon move. Maybe he'll join the three other FCD academy alums in Italy (McKenzie, Reynolds, Tessman). Reggie Cannon has been the target of several approaches. His exit could be at any moment. (Via @ojogo) pic.twitter.com/wd6t3nIzz7— USMNT Universe (@UsmntU) July 21, 2021

Reynolds looked strong and confident playing the first half against Triestina. Got forward quite a bit.
It's so easy to get young, athletic kids stronger. It's surprising that soccer seems to be lagging behind still. You can get stronger without gaining much weight.
Exactly! I don’t know where this myth came about that muscle and strength equals decreased skill and ability. Look at Ronaldo ~ didn’t hurt him. Heck, look at Cade Cowell and he’s 17! He’s still a freaking toddler. Yet he has more muscle mass than a lot of players. Now, there’s definitely some truth that shit goes down hill once you hit 30. All my life through my twenties, I never not had a six pack couldn’t crank out 100 push ups and 20-30 pull ups and run a mile under 6 min.... but after I hit 30, it’s like all my old injuries came back with a vengeance... now I’m just lucky to wake up and not hurt. Ahh. To be young again. Enjoy it while it lasts!
One thing, I’d add, the saddest thing is losing that ‘extra gear.’ Ever since Iraq, when I was hit by the IED at 19 years old... and fractured my T12 vertebrae (plus herniated some discs - mainly my L5S1) and whacked my brain... I’ve endured chronic pain. That’s just been a part of life. Hell, my balls still tingle in my sleep...not to mention my big toe. But I always could push through the pain barrier. However, when I hit 30, I don’t know what happen, but my body said, that’s it, no more, you’re done. I tell you, It’s a pitiful sight but my workouts now have no sort of intensity and it’s just that sad old man workout now of ‘let’s maintain what we got without hurting anything new.’ Anyways, my point being, you would think at that age, these players would be getting jacked...especially with all the fitness coaches they have today. Looking at Hoppe’s scrawny legs and you can’t help but think that no strength and conditioning coach has said to him, quit skipping leg day. In my opinion, there’s about no excuse but to be stronger than that. These guys should easily be building muscle now. And I think it would greatly benefit their careers.
In my 50s and I still get a sore knee stemming from a mishap on a confidence course at Fort Leonard Wood.
There is a special place in hell for people who belittle others for their struggles at the gym, and it happens so often. It seems to have gotten worse post pandemic, at least in California anyways. And its always the injecting protein bros, a demographic that transcends generations and race.
Literally just yesterday I was waiting on the bench. A dude just finished his seventh set, and I had the gaul to ask "hey bud, are you almost done with the bench press?" Literally just got up nose to nose with me and yelled IM GONNA BE ON THIS THING ALL DAY, BRO! YOU GOT A PROBLEM WITH THAT?!" Then when he finished up, I made sure he saw that I kept his weights on (we know people like that dont take the weights off) and put an extra ten on each side. You have to prepare for a bro-down at least once a week it seems. Its like back at Chico State on a weekend in my early 20s, but.......people in their 30s-40s now too. It seems like someone wants to fight every few hours. Maybe I just have a very punchable face, I dunno
