That's a real punch in the gut for Liverpool's 2024-25 transfer net spend.

Bate certainly has an impressive highlight reel. Still if one wants a quick fast track to first team football it's best to steer away from the premier league altogether in my view.

Kind of surprised that no foreign teams have been linked to these kids as they are all 18 and I think they can move to most Countries in the EU as don’t think they have the same strict requirements as the UK with signing players from abroad, post Brexit. I would have thought Bate would be a better fit abroad maybe.

Have you never seen him play? He played for England at the Euros a couple of years ago. Plus was in the UEFA Youth League regularly.

Bate is the type of player that needs a managers trust and a specific style of play. He’s probably hoping Bielsa provides him with that base to progress.

English football’s success with these type of players isn’t always good so I don’t think just focusing on game time is the issue. The pathway at Leeds isn’t overwhelming. Seems like there is some logic to the potential move anyway.

AC Milan are interested in Livramento. Which wouldn’t be ideal with him being eligible for Italy.

Is he definitely eligible for Italy? Some English Italians have been here for generations.

He's eligible for Portugal not Italy.

As well as Portugal I loved the England kit. The 3 lions on the shirt carries so much passion and is a real statement in football. For me to have worn an England shirt as a young boy it’s been a dream come true to wear it as an England youth player.

Maybe I just assumed after reading something yesterday. Obviously I was wrong.

Not sure why I (and seemingly others) assumed that it was an Italian name, but you're absolutely right - apparently it's Portuguese for "deliverance" or "liberation".

Just looked it up and it seems that his dad was born in London too, but I can't find a record of his grandparents' birth and they both have Portuguese surnames, so probably born there. His mother's surname is "O'Neill" - don't tell @roverman.

Are Leeds really that good an option for developing him? They've been spending a lot since promotion and though Bielsa is good at developing players, they've been more senior players. Gelhardt and Greenwood of course both moved there and have had zero game time so far.

Was thinking the same myself. Actually surprised that Gelhardt didn’t get minutes toward the end of last season.

You’d assume that Bate would have some assurances other than just ‘Let’s see how you get on in PL2 again.’

Indeed. Liverpool arguably might be a better choice based on past evidence.

Attacking roles were always pretty strong for Leeds when Greenwood and Geldhardt signed for them. I don’t think that is the same in the CM roles now but that could obviously change.

Elliott is playing as a CM against Stuttgart right now in Liverpool's first pre season friendly.

Why Liverpool? There is a much bigger queue in midfield than almost every other club: Thiago, Henderson, Fabinho, Ox, Jones, Keita, Milner and of course the new guy who they will buy in the place of Wijnaldum.
Leeds will be good for Bate, not overnight, but there is more of a chance there than Liverpool.
