I knew somebody would find a way to blame Rapinoe for the loss.

 

This match reminded me of the USA's U-20 loss versus Germany in the group stage in 2012; also a 3-0 loss.
Ertz, Dunn, and S. Mewis were part of that team.

Goal difference shouldn't be an issue except to decide group winner and the only important thing is that Sweden and US ends up 1:st and 2:nd in the group (any order will do) so they do not have to meet again unless both reach the Final.

Every time I see Danielle Slaton, I mourn a little. Probably the best US pure left back I've watched. Career ended too soon by injury. Now an excellent analyst though!

The question I'd ask after this match is not will the U.S. come back--they'll surely make it to the knockout stage--but who's going to beat Sweden?

 

The Swedish player made a masterful chip over Dunn's head and neither Dunn nor Rapinoe had any possibility of catching up with her -- even if they were a clone of Usain Bolt.

The only way Rapinoe could have been positioned to get involved in that play was if she had been standing on the end line.

 

I watched, now I sleep because I am tired of the USWNT and this atrocious performance.

 

I get Courtney Petersen from Orlando Pride, she would run back hard!

 

The point of the post was that the side of the field could be even more exposed with how the US had been playing and not covering for each other. It wasn't all about Rapinoe.

 

Wrong. Vlatko is a good Coach, Some of our players are overrated. This is on the players and their cocky-ass attitudes. We have many young and better players playing in the NWSL that could be on this team but yet we chose old rehashed has-beens. I still want them to win Gold but maybe this loss will expedite the exit of some of these mediocre players that have been on this team too long.

It was probably fortunate that this Match aired in the middle of the night in America because the Motion Picture Association has given it a rating of NC-17.

 

No this is on the coach.! US players have always been cocky. And Age has never been the reason we lose games. This is on vlatko and his tactics or lack of any. Btw this roster is practically the same group that beat sweden in 2019 so dont go blaming the players!

 

There is no doubt that Sweden targeted Dunn. That's probably not a reflection on Dunn, but rather that Sweden is stronger on its right flank than its left. In any case, Dunn was exposed the whole game -- although I thought she did fairly well.

What could have been done? Horan and later Ertz as the defensive midfielders could have helped Dunn. But that would have opened up other possibilities for Sweden -- and Sweden was superior at every position and at every spot on the field.

In any case, in the 72nd minute and down 2-zip, you don't want your forwards focused on defense.

 

Hopefully the team and coaching staff will reflect from this fiasco and how to address it with what they have.

 

The only good thing about that first half is that Lynn Williams can't be blamed for it
