Definitely deserved. They are pulling the US out of shape and have had the best chances. The US has done some of it to themselves though with too many giveaways and mistakes.
Sweden with 11 shots, 6 on goal, and 7 corners in 37 minutes. USA with 2 shots, 1 on goal. Possession has evened out.
That should've been # 2 for Sweden. Blackstenius receives ball over the top of Dahlkemper. This has been ugly.
US looks to be playing lackadaisically, without the urgency we'd see normally when playing down a goal. We need more off-the-ball movement when in possession and to get Press involved more.
US fortunate to still be in the game only down 1-0 at half. Defense is not being helped by the midfield in any phase whether shifting to cover the Swedish attack with numbers or simply playing the ball out of the back. Swedes are quicker of thought and more sure of their runs. The US is very slow.
Well, we were lucky to escape that half only down by one goal. I'm looking for some subs in the 2nd half and some more energy and urgency with more movement in the midfield and forward lines.
Like Sitruc said earlier, she was asked to do too much. Sweden was overloading her side and she had no help.
Not sure foot speed is the issue. Both Lavelle and Press have shown they can beat the defenders for pace. The issue seems to me to be about speed of play and lack of ideas (which I'm not sure Williams helps much with).
Except almost all of Sweden’ attacks came down their right side(like their successful cross for the goal) Dunn should be defending rather than attacking
I guess everyone agrees that with an even just slightly better finishing by Sweden, USA should be behind by 0-3 or such. I guess if USA wants to make it a physical and/or speed challenge, Sweden will be happy and will say: "Ok, we can play this game!"
Does Sweden have 15 players on the field? How is that Sweden can overload the U.S.'s left flank time after time? Dunn has been equal to the task of defending, but just barely -- and has been little help on the offense. You know the US is in trouble when Becky Sauerbrunn is your most effective attacker (a little hyperbole there, but Sauerbrunn is getting forward trying to get some offense started.) This one may come down to fresher legs and better substitutes in the second half. Ertz, Lloyd, and Rapinoe about minute 65 -- cause by that point you may be desperate if you don't have a tie. You might wish you had the services of Macario and the speed of Williams on the roster for the latter stages of this game. Well, let's hope that Sweden has tired legs after that frenetic first half.
Not Dunn. She had some big stops but overall played poorly or at least below her usual standard. The entire defensive line though is not getting enough support from the midfield; to be fair, the Swedish line is smothering them. Horan, in particular, is getting played out of the game, but she's not a natural defensive midfielder. I hope Ertz can come in. The Swedish frontline is also cutting off Dahlkemper from getting to serve balls from the backline, and forcing Sauerbrunn to do more of the service.
That's what it felt like! They're just moving more, cutting off passing lanes, and pressing more than the US is. I said the US is playing lackadaisically, but Foudy said it best: the play looks lethargic.
