Roberto Mancini on what can Germany learn from Italy: "Germany is still a great football nation. They always had good teams and great players. The German coaches were also always excellent. But everyone has to go their own way. We were in a similar position 3 years ago" Mancini: "Joachim Löw and his team were knocked out against England in the round of 16, but they didn't have the easiest group either. But honestly? In my opinion, the Germans didn't deserve to be knocked out. For me they played a great game against England" LMAO sounds like he thought Germany should have beaten England, nice jab.
Mancini isn't wrong, we weren't at our best against England that's because of our poor set up, but we did have great chances in the first half to be leading !
One thing for sure, Flick will make Germany great again. I'm already moved on from the tragic Euro 2020 campaign , can't wait to see Flick's first assignment as the trainer.
would have been much funnier i Flick would have got like 3 years like Mancini just for building a team. Read that Mancini tried like 40 players, even some from Serie B. Now Flick has to deal with Löws mess losing to NM forced to win. will be a real fun time after WC when Flick can focus totally on building a strong team before 2024
Somehow, I get the feeling that you could have a meeting of the non-English national English NT fan club in a closet and still have plenty of room ....
While there seems to be a lot of good up and coming talent, I don't think you need to go through the same process. The core is there, these are great players, championship quality, that are able to go far in an international tournament. What is required is a good/great coach that can take advantage of the qualities of the players and create a great team. Like everyone else in this forum, I hope Flick is that coach.
In terms of quality, Germany have a great squad, with several young players who have already tasted international glory at club level (Kimmich, Goretzka, Süle, Gnabry, Rüdiger, Havertz and Werner). Germany's last three years could be seen as a past-his-prime pilot driving a modern F1 car.
yeah fact is no one likes England. Basically only England NT fans are English. France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Argentina (although how much is Messi fixation), Brazil attract most outsider fans. usually almost all - about Germany is WWII crap that has 0 to do with sport and most not even alive back then lol. England NT everyone hates them and roots against them. Don't think I saw much of anyone online rooting for England that wasn't English. And all their hooliganism during tourney made more people dislike them.
I like the English, however I am totally indifferent to their NT, and didn't care if they won or lost. As for the English fixation on the World Wars and anti-German sentiment, that started during the 1980s from what I have read. The 1966 World Cup final had none of the anti-German rhetoric from accounts I read, because a lot of people had experienced the horrors of war and the mood amongst the English was more about forgive and forget.
I have nothing against English people but its part of sport to shit on other teams. Laughing and mocking at England and 1966 fixation is fun as hell. like I currently have a disdain for modern day VFB Stuttgart but nothing against anyone from Stuttgart or the city. its not just England fixation on WW, how many times I've seen online or in real life about why would they support or like Nazis aka Germany? and this was 2000s and 1st half of 2010s. fact is Klinsmann and Low's fast attacking footy made TONS of people go from indifferent-dislike of Germany to liking. As older Germany teams seen as boring blablabla, false narrative that majority of 80s-90s Germany teams had no skills no stars, no world class players. "Its DAT German oil machine, crazy mentality that got them far and NOTHING else. " Almost same crap you saw with Germany U21 2021 and them winning U21, LMAO. I think Germany is country where most BS comes up about from them all.
Speaking of sports rivalries, I am frankly surprised there's never been a football rivalry between England and France, considering they've been competing with each other on many fields for centuries.
I think people misunderstand sporting rivalries quite a bit if they didn't grow up with them. e.g as a kiwi, germans always think i would support England which i find absurd. Most kiwis would even support Australia or South Africa (our big local rivals) over England. In my experience, Germans are usually Anglophiles and hold no strong rivalry with england, compared to the likes of france and italy, whereas England has a hard on for germany like you would not believe. In rugby, england have far more rivalry with the home nations than with france. Same in football - playing vs Scotland is far more of a grudge match than France.
Yeah, people usually are shocked whenever they find out I root for Germany during World Cups despite having no ties of any kind to Germany, as they would expect me to root for fellow South American countries like Brazil.
As a foreigner in England, I was often called a nazi and shit but I also know a lot of English people are embarrassed by those attitudes. The country has a ton of issues right now with the rise of right wing populism leading to stuff like Brexit and a steep rise in racism and hooliganism. Pretty divided country so no surprise that all the violence and racism at Euro 2020 occurred, especially as a lot of people used the tournament as an excuse to drink heavily in public after 16 months of lockdown. Drinking all day = hooliganism central at night. Definitely the least popular NT outside of England, was funny seeing all the other Brits like Scotland and Wales celebrate almost as much as Italian fans lol. The reason France and most Germans don’t see England as a rival is due to the fact that other then when at home, England haven’t done anything in tournaments. Literally only ever won 1 k/o Euro match outside of England (v Ukraine). Btw I read that security at the stadium were accepting bribes from ticketless fans and the police did nothing to stop the stampede. Total joke. I expect UEFA to give them a stadium ban.
Older generation of those from Commonwealth countries were actually rooting for England probably because of the influence of the English Premier League but in recent years many had switched their supports for other country.

Nmecha, ... the national team: A classic center forward, as Nmecha can embody, was missing from the A selection in recent years. The new Wolfsburg would love to slip into this role in the future. "That's one reason why I moved to the Bundesliga. I'm sure I can get to this level." Until the World Cup in Qatar, which will take place at the end of next year? "That would really be a dream," says Nmecha. "To do that, I have to put everything in."
Pretty much feel the same way. On a personal level, I like/dislike people on how they engage with me. So far, I have only positive things to say about any English folks I've met. It's the bloody football fans (and not all of them) and the tabloid media that ticks me off, with their insulting attitude towards Germans. I've seen it mellow over the years and that's good. It is also annoying to hear comments like "German machine" - these guys are lazy and can't bother to do any research and just resort to stereotypes.
