Only a few days away, and the US has traveled from their pre-Olympic camp site to Tokyo, so let's start the game day thread!

The first group game will kickoff at 4:30 am ET (5:30 pm local) at Tokyo Stadium. The game will be broadcast in the States on the USA network. It will be broadcast on tape delay at 8:30 am ET on NBCSN and again at 6 pm ET on NBCSN. (For more on how to follow along and watch with the full USWNT schedule, see the Athletic's article on it.)

The teams will choose an 18-player game day roster from their 22-player rosters.

And while I'm sure no one needs a reminder: this game will be a re-match of the 2016 Olympics quarterfinals in which the USWNT lost in KFTPM and was knocked out of the tournament. For more recent face-offs, the US played Sweden to a 1-1 draw earlier this year in April in Sweden (US's goal from a late penalty kick by Rapinoe). Prior to that the two teams played each other in 2019 in Andonovski's first match as coach, a 3-2 win with 2 goals from Lloyd and one from Press. The other 2019 game was, of course, the 2019 WWC group stage match, a 2-0 win. The US is 23-6-12 all-time against Sweden. In any case, the US's opening match against Sweden will likely be the most difficult of their group stage.

Also, the USWNT is 22-0-1, 79 GF, 4 GA under Vlatko. Sweden is responsible for 3 of those 4 goals against and the draw.

Also, kudos for finding those replay times in the jungle of worthless info on the NBC Olympic website:thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup:. I heard a rumor that individuals WILL be competing in Olympic events other than Women's Soccer.:D

2 of those Swedish goals came 4 minutes from each other by an fwd named Anvegard back in Nov of 2019. Luckily for us, she hasn’t become an viable player for her NT since then.
The Swedes have an older squad as well; Lindahl 38, Seger 36, Sembrandt 34, Asllani & Jacobsson 31. Hannah Glas(age 27) might be their best player; voted top FB in the Bundesliga

btw…..Alex Morgan turned 32 earlier this month, I guess we can’t call her Baby Horse anymore

Well, the match is available live on the USA network and all matches will be streamed live via the NBC app which is available for most Android devices and on the Roku and, I think, on Apple devices. That gives a LOT of ways to access. You must have some TV provider to validate the app's access to NBC.

I am unsure if I want to watch via USA on my Spectrum system or via the app on my Roku. I "think" I will watch on my Roku, if it truly works correctly. NBC is notorious for their apps working poorly. They also have never seemed to be able to get replays up, on their app, in reasonable times so to watch delayed I am recording all I can via Channels DVR and my Spectrum DVR that records to the web.

I wish I cold rely on NBC but they are/have been so unreliable that I feel the need for backup. Redundancy is a good thing, except when it is not.

BTW: I am real glad the FOX networks do not hold Olympic rights. Their feeds, delayed, are about the most unreliable I have ever dealt with. Their delayed Gold Cup matches are only available at all about 50% of the time. NBC will, I really really hope, be better than that.

I also think that the Matches will be available via the Peacock network, but on that I am not sure.

You can watch the matches directly, using the NBC stream referenced above, but you need a TV subscription.
I signed up for Sling TV Blue for $35 and get both USA Network and NBCSN to watch replays later.
I can also watch directly on the NBC streaming site.

I tried to edit my above post but the time limit had expired so here is the addition:

How to watch women’s Olympic soccer in USA

TV channels: NBCSN, USA Network, Olympic Channel
    Spanish-language TV: Telemundo, Universo
Streams: NBCOlympics.com, NBC Sports app, Telemundo Deportes app, TelemundoDeportes.com

    The above came from:
    https://www.sportingnews.com/us/soc...s-tv-channels-tokyo/tucdddma7e4i1xuuycprtb8nz
But treat that link carefully as it over advertises FuboTV and that is about the most expensive app for live TV there is. Sling is better and cheaper if you wish to go that way.

One more post on Olympic availability online:
I have confirmed that the games will be available via the Peacock network. However if you want full you will need the premium plan @ $9.99/month.
    https://olympicsstarttime.com/olympics-peacock/
    and see this as well
    https://www.bloomberg.com/opinion/a...yo-olympics-cable-or-peacock-are-the-only-way

It seems to me that if you want to get a streaming service just for the Olympics then Peacock is the least costly way to go. They also offer a 30 day free trial for most people. But since they are really NBC you may have problems with them getting delayed/on demand stuff up in a timely manner.

A little clip from their faq:

I must be impatient. When are we finding out the 18-player matchday rosters and the match officials?
(I took a gander over at FIFA's website for the match officials earlier today but didn't see anything)

We're going to have Arlo White and Julie Foudy announcing all of the GTITU Matches at the Olympics. Looking forward to that except Arlo can be a play-by-play bully at times. Other Olympic Soccer announcers - - - Analysts - Robbie Earle, Robbie Mustoe, Tim Howard, Angela Hucles, Lori Lindsey, and Danielle Slaton. PbP - Lisa Byington, Mark Followill (a good Dallas boy), Jenn Hildreth and Derek Rae.

What's wrong with Arlo White? Will he talk over Julie Foudy when something's happening on the pitch? I hope he does. All these analysts have to learn to just stop with their thoughts when something's happening.

All the great announcers I listened to when young knew to do that. Vin Scully. Chick Hearn. Dick Enberg. Al Michaels.

He's good, H. he's great. Almost too great. When the analyst is making a technical point or referencing a past Match, if Arlo knows where he/she is going with their point, he will jump in and finish the point. Just one of my pet peeves. I won't be muting the broadcast though.:D

My main gripe lately (after the Twitman) has been staying in replay when the match is actually on. It happened at the Euros and the Copa America and a lot so far in the Gold cup. I hope NBC has not learned that habit from the other networks.
I also find the cuts to long loving shots of nobodies in the crowd again while the play is going on. I actually would rather see the players setting up for a free kick or other play or even the players and coaches just standing around that the anonymous faces in the crowd.

The announcing crew sounds OK but I wish they would simply SHUT UP a lot more than they do.

But I, also, will not be muting the TV my old eyes have gone to the point where it is often hard for me to tell the players apart without help.

But to put the emphasis where it belongs once again I am ecstatic that we will have no Twitman and no Lalas. That is about all I could ask for.

I'm an American expat who is currently in Asia, so this year actually works for me. But, I watched the 2015 and 2019 WWC from Asia (thankfully was in the US for 2016 Olympics); I also got to enjoy the 2002 WC and 2007 WWC's from the US. So, I feel your pain, but I'm thankful for better timings for me personally this year. Also anyone who can't commit to watch live is a wuss. ;)

My tips (tongue in cheek a bit):
    1. Coffee is vital, or Red Bull if that's your thing.
    2. Naps are your friend, even if you're not normally a napper. They're especially important once lost sleep starts to compound on itself a couple of weeks from now.
    3. Unless all of your family/friends/neighbors are soccer fans, too, start thinking now about how you're going to rein in loud celebrations at 2 am.
    4. Don't plan on getting any real work done over the next month, even if you have to go to work.

    And the match officials are:

    R: YAMASHITA Yoshimi (JPN)
    AR1: TESHIROGI Naomi (JPN)
    AR2: BOZONO Makoto (JPN)
    4O: PUSTOVOITOVA Anastasia (RUS)
    VAR: RACZKOWSKI Pawel (POL)
    AVAR: FU Ming (CHN)

We get one of the best in the middle.

So, just to be clear, I have an Apple TV hooked up to my television. I have Spectrum as my television provider so I get NBC and NBCSN. However, my cable plan is a la carte so I don't have USA Network. Can I still watch the games via LIVE using the NBC app or do I need USA Network?

I'm trying to decide if I need to pay an extra 25 bucks for USA network for the next month via SLING or if I could still watch the matches live on NBC app on my Apple TV since I have NBC and NBCSN on Spectrum.

Also is it possible for the Olympics to still be cancelled even after the first softball and soccer tournaments start "today" and "tomorrow"?
