The Reds will be heading to Austria with a 34 man squad to begin their pre-season training. Goalkeepers: Adrian, Kelleher, Karius, Marcelo Pitaluga, Harvey Davies Defenders:Konate, Van Dijk, Matip, Gomez, Trent, Tsimikas, Davies, Williams, Phillips, Billy Koumetio, Owen Beck, Conor Bradley Midfielders: Milner, Keita, Ox, Jones, Grujic, Woodburn, Jake Cain, Leighton Clarkson, Kaide Gordon, Musialkowski, Tyler Morton Forwards:Salah, Mane, Minamino, Origi, Elliott, Taiwo Awoniyi
The rest of the players, including Hendo, Bobby, Alison, Fabinho, Shaqiri and Jota, should be there by around August 1 as Jurgen usually gives players 3 weeks off after the international commitments. Sounds like the situation is still fluid regarding the total preseason schedule, including friendly matches. Usually the team plays a friendly or two against other clubs training in the same area, but it's hard to say what will happen this year. Just over a month away from the league opener!
I needed the break after such a roller coaster season. Ready to get back at it. Looking at that roster I wonder if there is any chance the club decides to give Grujic a chance to take a regular midfield berth rather than purchasing someone new. I had considered him as good as gone after last season's loan, but considering the financial implications of CoVid, maybe he actually has a role to play here.
I like Grujic but I honestly can't see a future for him at Anfield. I figure if it was ever gonna happen for him it would have by now. From reports I'm seeing it looks like he'll be off to Porto on a permanent deal.
I'd like to see Tsimi get a lot of minutes in preseason - and maybe early season too. I think there may be a solid player there, but we haven't seen enough of him yet to be sure. or. if he isn't gonna make it for the long term, the sooner we know the better. Robbo played 2 seasons worth in the past year, so giving him extra time to recuperate makes sense imo. Tsimi and Millie can step in for a while.

classic ...... As preseason begins .... Pep Lijnders quoting a line from the Reds legendary manager: "Then for all the young talents who have come with us, our message is enjoy and keep this “updated” phrase of Bob Paisley in your mind – we search for a player who nutmegs Virgil van Dijk in training but steps politely aside for him in the corridor." https://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/spo...ews/pep-lijnders-issued-james-milner-21033593
in terms of getting players fit, working on tactics, and getting new guys bedded in -- it'll be interesting to see if these "small scale" games work better than the usual approach of travel-the-globe and play in an invented "tournament" against other big teams.
Virgil Van Dijk, Joe Gomez, Joel Matip, and Ibrahim Konoute have all reported for the first day of training fit and ready to go. A pessimist would say that there are still major question marks surrounding that group. An optimist would say that it is the most talented group of centerbacks in all of Europe. Liverpool finished last season with Nat Phillips and Rhys Williams at centerback and will likely start this one with Virgil Van Dijk and Joe Gomez. There is no team in the Premier League that will come even close to improving any position in their team this dramatically.
right on. any team in the Prem would cut their tight nut off to have a CB grouping of Virgil, Gomez, Matip, Kanote, Nat and Rhys. I know Nat/Rhys may move on or be loaned sometime soon, but talk about strength in depth. wow.
Klopp confirms Matip the closest to 'normal training' out of his three returning centre-backs. Van Dijk and Gomez being carefully managed (no double sessions yet). Alexander-Arnold "five or six days" away from normal team training. Neil Jones
I wish Nat would stay. Matip doesn't inspire confidence in terms of staying fit, nor does Gomez. Flip side...I completely understand why he would want to leave.
I'd ;ike to see him stay too, and Rhys to get a loan deal with plenty of Prem/Championship minutes somewhere.
https://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/spo...ws/jurgen-klopp-liverpool-mane-salah-21048856 Jurgen Klopp has revealed that Liverpool are set to spend FOUR weeks of pre-season at their Austrian training camp in a break from usual tradition. Rather than report to their Kirkby home on Monday, the Reds flew straight out to a picturesque Alpine resort to kick off preparations for the new campaign. It is a similar approach to that taken last year, when Klopp and his squad also started out in Austria before heading back to England to put the finishing touches to pre-season. This time, however, there is one crucial difference: Liverpool won't be flying home until the week of their first fixture of the new Premier League season. "We have enough time to train, we have enough time to talk and when the players from the Euros or the Copa [America] come back we are hopefully able to bring them in without quarantine and these kinds of things. "That was all important. That we can be together in the bubble, fly as a bubble together to England [so] that we don’t have to get quarantined there and all these things. It’s a tricky situation, but that’s the reason why we are away for quite a while." Klopp went on to express delight at the fact he has been able to give Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane an unusually lengthy break from football this summer in the absence of international commitments. He also explained that those who reached the finals of the Copa America and Euros over the summer will be given at least three weeks as they recover from those exertions. "Mo had seven weeks, Sadio didn’t because he played for Senegal, so I think he had around about five weeks. "But it is incredibly long – they are used to two-and-a-half weeks in the summer, which, [and] I said it plenty of times, is not enough. "But now the guys from the Euros and the guys from the Copa have around about three weeks. They have three weeks, that’s what we can give them and that’s what we will."
two games in two days???!! who TF scheduled that?? the Prem or the Fa or EUFA need to have their ..... oh, erm. hang on. never mind.
these are not the goals you are looking for. basically - any time we get from Keita should be looked at as a bonus at this point.
