With all the chatter around Vines' impending transfer it's easy to forget that there's a match on Saturday night. Rapids will be without Vines, Lewis and Acosta who are with the Nats. I am assuming Price will be healthy and available. The same with Beitashour (who we haven't seen in a Rapids match). Like the last pair of home games, there will be a quick turnaround with FC Dallas coming to Dick's on Wednesday. Given how well the Rapids played in the MUFC, I would bet the starting back line will be the same with Trusty - Wilson - Abubakar - Rosenberry. It's harder to figure who will take Acosta's place. And what a challenge it's going to be given how well Acosta played in his last two matches with the Rapids. It seems likely Mezquida will be in the starting lineup. Barrios and Galván are locks to start out wide with Rubio in the #9 role.
On defending Wondo vs. Cowell: "Cade Cowell is really really fast and Wondo's not." He's got good pace and is aggressive. They're different but they can be plug and play. Both good poachers. Wondo's not fast but he gets in good spots and finishes. #COLvSJ CC: @sperrydaniel94— Matt Pollard (@LWOSMattPollard) July 15, 2021
I'm thinking the only person to defend an old crafty striker like Wondo is an old crafty defender. When Wondo gets subbed in sub Moor in to handle him.
Namli is the only player on the injury report for this one. Wilson is one card from suspension, Price and Rubio are two cards from suspension. Losing Wilson at this point would hurt, as we'd have to bring Trusty back inside and find yet another stop-gap at LB.
Didn't know that I-70 was going to be closed at time this weekend. Coming from Boulder, 270 is getting busier each year ad the time it takes to get to DSGP has gradually increased. The closure of 70 will most likely make this worse. 🚗 Make sure to check traffic heading into @DSGPark this weekend as part of I-70 will be closed!More things to know for #COLvSJ 👇 pic.twitter.com/UB9Yui8ls4— Colorado Rapids (@ColoradoRapids) July 16, 2021
Agree. There is no way to replace what he has been doing recently for Rapids. My guess is Fraser will go with something like a 4-2-3-1 with Price as a one of the two deep sitting mids. The question is, who pairs with him? The candidates would seem to be Mezquida, Warner and Larraz. Price isn't exactly the same type of defender as Acosta , so who ever is along side him has to be willing to put in the work chasing the ball and breaking up the attack to take pressure off the back line.
Or Trusty could stay outside where the Rapids really need him in Vines' absence and Ford could pair with Abubakar inside. Or they could go old school and start Moor.
I come from Arvada/Westminster. I've found on weeknight games and in cases like this surface streets are better than 270. If you get off 36 at Federal or Pecos and go south to 70th you can take that all the way across to the 6 in Commerce City and then cut over to Quebec north of the Dick through CC. That's generally faster than the 270 when its backed up. (I live just off of 72nd and Sheridan so I never even get on the 36 when I take this route)
Last time SJ was at Dick's they lost 5-0, so . . . On a slightly more serious note, the Rapids should be able to win this match sans Acosta, Vines and Lewis.
How crazy of a statement is that. Fraser and Co have done a fantastic job in turning this team around and building our confidence that we can go get results against ‘weaker’ teams without our DP, 2 important starters, and a streaky strong attacking sub.
The strange thing is as a Rapids’ fan, I’m still looking up waiting for a bird to poop on me. I can never be confident without feeling like I’m jinxing the team. As such, 1-1 tie with Bassett finally putting one on net.
Thanks for the tip! I had to look on google maps to visualize the route you are suggesting. Looks like the traffic is much lighter on 70th compared to US 36 and 270. On 70th are there many traffic lights? Might try this tomorrow and if it works, again next Wednesday.
Once you get East of Pecos or so there are pretty big gaps between lights, at least until you get into CC.
2-0 win, goals by Galvan and Barrios. San Jose is not a good team, especially on the road. Even down our 3 Nats we should expect to win this game. I think our wingers are going to stand out and put us in good shape starting our 3 game week. http://view-from-the-couch.blogspot.com/2021/07/the-call-up.html
I can't see San Jose's man-marking style working well at altitude. 3-0 Rapids with two goals coming late in the second half.

No doubt both Barrios and Galván are going to be key tonight and most likely to some extent for the rest of the season. They are going to repeatedly test opposing back lines and open up opportunities of teammates with crosses. Also, I figure Bassett is going to soon break out of his scoring funk. He frequently gets himself into position to score, but just can't find the back of the net. He's due.
I agree on both fronts. I think Bassett scores tonight and Galvan has a heck of a game. Galvan’s footwork and tendency to take on players should match well against SJ’s man marking scheme. If he beats his man, he’s gonna have a lot of space.
Also with Galván, he tracks back real well which is going to help him get and keep playing time. With fixture congestion I figure Barrios and Galván will be subbed out somewhere between the 60th and 70th minutes. Will this be the first match where Larraz gets more than a cameo? Tonight could be the first match in while were Fraser uses 5 subs. He has to keep in mind what's ahead on the schedule.
Tonight’s lineup. Galvan also on the bench, but will probably make a sub appearance around the 60-70th min to spell Barrios - at least that’s my guess. Pending game script, might also see Larraz and Ford on the pitch tonight, which would be cool to see!
