Stay classy GOP. I mean, profiting off a pandemic? Sure, why not. Ron DeSantis is now selling ‘Don’t Fauci My Florida’ gear as Florida’s COVID numbers near the highest in the nation. Disgraceful. DeSantis is killing Floridians. pic.twitter.com/FGpftRMrbm— MeidasTouch (@MeidasTouch) July 14, 2021
In other news, a colleague recently lost their father-in-law to the Delta Variant. A family shindig was held that the colleague and his immediate family did not attend due to the number of unvaccinated in attendance. Out of about 15 people that attended: 1 Death (Unvaccinated) 1 On Vent awaiting double lung transplant (Unvaccinated) 6 Hospitalized for more than 2 weeks now. Little recovery progress (Unvaccinated) 5 Severe Covid Symptoms but recovering (Vaccinated) 2 Mild Covid Symptoms have recovered (Vaccinated)
Cases and deaths will inevitably go up fairly quickly from here given similar vaccination rates as the UK (or lower in some parts) and the Delta variant is now the main one. Only good thing is its summer. If it were Fall or Winter it would probably be a full blown new wave in many red states.
As the Delta coronavirus variant rips through conservative areas, Republicans are slowly starting to publicly condemn vaccine hesitancy and misinformation. "The politicization of vaccination is an outrage and frankly moronic,” said Senator Mitt Romney. https://t.co/9NKat6JUaG— The New York Times (@nytimes) July 14, 2021 Not advocating/hoping for another massive wave to hit us. But at the same time, I hope that, as was the case last November, people won't forget about the Republicans' attitude when it comes to the virus and the vaccine in next year's midterms. They deserve whatever they get from making this a political issue and trying to weaponize it against the president and the Dems. Massive dereliction of duty on their part.
TBF, Mitt Romney has been really consistent in his encouragement of vaccination. Mike Lee can go DIAF.
To be fair, Mitt has proven to be one of the few consistently reasonable people on the right for some time. There is no doubt that he's very much in the minority over there in terms of his attitude towards the virus and the vaccine.
I got this in the mail today from “Club for Growth Action”, trying to tie sitting congressperson Stephanie Kunze to what they must consider negative qualities of Democrats. Pictures of Schumer, Pelosi and Biden along with the text saying Kunze “aligns with never-trumpers and sides with Covid alarmists against our freedom”. I don’t like Kunze and haven’t since she was on our local city council and did nothing for the city, instead just tried, successfully, to climb the Republican Party ladder, but I would sure as hell vote for her over anyone this flyer would be trying to promote.
Sounds like it. I thought my parents were safe after their shots but they're still having to isolate. In other news, I was going to head over the pond after July 19th for my LX birthday but I'm beginning to think it's not a good idea.
77.67% of Canadians over the age of 12 have received at least one dose. That happened fast! In New York 73.4% of those over 18 have received at least one dose and we are one of the more compliant states.
Victoria Covid update: state to enter five-day lockdown as outbreak linked to Sydney grows | Victoria | The Guardian Melbourne just had a two week lockdown to supress two outbreaks a few weeks back. The second outbreak was a delta strain leak from hotel quarantine but fortunately the state was already in lockdown for the first outbreak so it didn't get outside a household. Not sure when the Sydney outbreak changes from an outbreak to a wave but its pretty close I think.
Tunisia is being hit pretty hard by Covid right now (most severe in the whole of the African continent). 1415553064203964417 is not a valid tweet id It's in French but the images speak volume: they need help, bad. On top of lack of room/space in the ERs (60 people crammed into a room designed for 15, with people having to sit on the floor or on chairs), there is a severe lack of oxygen and vaccine doses as well.
it's a tad higher - as of yesterday: 79.4% of 12+ with one shot, 46% of 12+ with both shots https://covid19tracker.ca/vaccinationtracker.html
