Reminded of the failed attempts of Ben Johnson and Usain Bolt to make lower division football teams.

Nothing, absolutely nothing, is as fast as speed of thought. Knowing when to run, where to run, and how to adjust pace and direction to changes in a play.

Hitting long over the top to a fast runner is so 40 years ago, even in women's football.

The combination of speed and guile is lethal. But it's sadly so incredibly rare.

So true and also, the speedy player need someone who can properly pass the ball to her. And those players are really rare.

Chelsea agree fee to buy Lauren James from Manchester United
    • The fee is a record between two WSL clubs
    • Forward’s brother Reece plays for Chelsea
Lauren James will complete a long-expected move to Chelsea after the club agreed a fee with Manchester United for the 19-year-old forward.

The deal is understood to be a record from one Women’s Super League club to another and includes an as yet unidentified Chelsea player moving in the opposite direction.

At Chelsea James will join her brother Reece, the England defender, who plays for the men’s team. Their father, Nigel, is a Uefa-licensed coach whom James has credited as having been key to her development.

Chelsea’s manager, Emma Hayes, will have a challenge in how to fit the forward into her team alongside Fran Kirby, Pernille Harder and Sam Kerr but will no doubt be delighted to have secured the services of a player she has long admired.

The highly rated James joined United from Arsenal in 2017 when the club launched their women’s team. She flourished under the former United manager Casey Stoney, who eased her into the starting XI, and scored 14 goals in the club’s season in the Championship, winning promotion to the WSL.

Not sure why they need Lauren James. Unless its like Sam Kerr, Kirby and Lauren front forwards. That be scary! And they have Beth England to help sub in if possible.

It's not scarier than Kerr, Kirby, and Harder front forwards. The new number I've seen is £50,000 plus add-ons and a player going the other way. If that player is not England or Reiten (or maybe Fleming), this is not a great deal for United Women.

Man United is pretty much collapsing itself with their coach gone and players leaving. And to get a very potential young player at that price, feels like they were robbed.

Not if England/Reiten are included in the deal. We'll see.

Just love it when reading twitter in reaction to Chelsea getting Lauren James, many Chelsea fans reacted first that they were getting or signing Haaland, and not a female footballer. LOL!

Poor Beth England was the WSL's leading goal-scorer a couple of years ago, I believe--or at the least had a very strong season. Now, she's been relegated to part-time duty and is under-employed. So I agree: ManU fans can only hope she is coming to their team as part of this deal.

I think Beth England is simply victim of competition at Chelsea who got better quality players ( Kerr, Kirby, Harder and now James). She certainly needs to go to a team who will give her first team football on regular basis. I think that's why she did not make the Olympics squad.

To make the Olympics squad, her name should have been Beth Great Britain, not Beth England. :p

Probably traded to Man United or on loan.

I would expect a loan for Beth England, because she signed a four years contract back in 2020, so the transfer fee would be quite high.

Because they lost to Barcelona, and Barcelona are anteing up. Stand still and fall behind.

"PSG forward Jordyn Huitema is drawing interest from Bayern Munich."

She has been drawing interest from Alphonso Davies for quite some time now.

Not sure if it's been mentioned, but I read today that Chelsea defender Hannah Blundell has moved to Manchester United as part of the Lauren James deal.

And Baggaley has also been announced. The United media teams have been busy today with Sancho also being announced.

James is such a luxury signing, but this is a good deal for Chelsea as they were able to keep England and Reiten. After some more thought, I think this is a decent deal for Man United Women as well. Fullback is an area of need, and Blundell should be an automatic starter there.

Batlle was great defensively and at ball progression last season, but she left a fair amount to be desired in terms of crossing and direct chance creation. I can only recall one great chance she created, and that was vs Burnley, a team not even in the Championship. Her other two assists (none in the league) were for low xG chances vs Burnley and Leicester (Championship side last season, newly promoted). A top notch defensive fullback is of course great, but when you have the reputation of being an offensively oriented fullback and the other fullbacks in the team don't create any better, things are a bit less impressive. If Blundell can offer solid defense with notable direct chance creation on one flank, then Batlle being more defensively skilled with great ball progression on the other flank will work much better in my opinion.
