This is why I don’t like it when our guys go to Turkey. Those clubs spend a lot of money to bring someone in, and then they’re like “oh snap, that was a lot of money! Let’s loan or sell them!”

I would second the why to this statement. If there is one thing we know about Berhalter, it's that he ain't scared to play a couple of MLS'ers or three. MLS is probably his level at this point in his career. Nothing wrong with that. The MLS level has improved since he left, and he'll do well with his speed and experience.

He needs to insist on staying in Europe. He was a success in Turkey. This is just bad optics like Brugge benching Horvath.

It's better even if he goes to a top team in the C'Ship ala Horvath. He also can then back door a return to the EPL, where he was adequate. He's a known commodity in England.

But I think ideally he would go to some Galatasaray parallel - a top/UCL/Europa team in a second-tier European league. We saw some of his ball skills return from not playing on survival teams that just cleared the ball.

Guys slow down. We may be overthinking this. Three days ago Yedlin posted an Insta pic with his partner announcing that he is going to be a Dad. It appears to me (basing it off my own pregnant wife) his partner is in the second trimester. Just me thinking out loud….. but they may feel it is the right time to return home and raise their child, I don’t think anyone could blame them. We know he will be back and forth between Europe and the Americas for WCQ and that’s hard when you have a pregnant significant other in another country going though that alone at times.

you're probably right considering that we are so close to world cup qualifiers however if Cannon gets a move to a top 5 league and is a starter, Reynolds locks down a starting position at Roma, and Robinson gets a transfer back to the premier league and is starting, I dont see how Greg can justify calling in Yedlin as well. Not to mention Dest at Barcelona. I guess experience would be the only reason

That was 3 perty big ifs right there. I don't see a lot of likelihood that Reynolds is going to be a starter for Roma. Jedi might get a move to the Prem but will have to scratch and claw for PT if he moves to Citeh. Cannon might get a move, but similarly will likely be brought in to compete with the current RB where ever he goes so will be in a dogfight for minutes. My hope is that Dest is the benefactor of the dumpster fire at Barcelona not allowing for new competition to be brought in for him, garnering him PT by default. Regardless, we are likely to use someone with the experience level of Yedlin in the Octagonal, especially if he is playing in the same general time zone as the qualifiers

Yedlin is 28. He's not freakin old. That's basically his prime until he's past 30.

He's still our best defending fullback in the pool. Don't really give a shit where he plays, his tenacity, pace, and on ball defending haven't been surpassed by Cannon and Dest isn't remotely close. There's a reason he started that Mexico match

I guess I'd worry if his form in Europe will translate into MLS. Too many guys drop when they head back to MLS for big paydays.

    I doubt he's leaving Turkey.

Gala fans are not exactly pouring praise on Yedlin either. He's considered technically naïve and the general impression I get is that they wouldn't be sad to see him go for the right price.

On the other hand they praise his speed and grit. The latter gets you a lot with Turkish fans.

He also fairly easily won a starting spot on their team. So whatever

Gala fans are well known for their measured, dispassionate footie analytics.

They're correct though. No one would say Yedlin is a highly technical player, come on.

Of course not, but this is Turkey, not La Liga.

And I'm correct: Gala fans are fairly bonkers and can be as fickle as they come.

I saw somewhere on the webs that DY has tested + for Covid and is not in the squad for the upcoming match v. PSV, fwiw. I'll look for official confirmation.

A lot of Turkish sites have it, (along with Akbaba) so I'm pretty sure it's legit. (I heard it from a Dutchie). No DY for the PSV tomorrow. Hope he has a symptom-free bout.

A Yedlin-less Galatasaray got demolished by PSV today, 5-1, in the first leg of their Champions League qualifier.

At least this year they're in the Champions. A couple of years back they got spanked in the group stage hard.

Too late. Barca got a Brazilian RB. They are listening all offers for Dest. Bayern is asking again about Dest.

Cyclops had the same motivation for quitting Toronto IIRC. His wife liked Toronto just fine, but couldn't hack being so far from her family with a newborn in her arms.

That's the emotional side. There's also the endless little bits and pieces that grandma and grandpa bring with them when they visit, as well as just having someone you trust completely taking the little one for 30-40 minutes while mom gets a nap. It's never a lot, but it's priceless if you're first-time parents. I'd imagine Gooch staying with Sunderland might have had something to do with that.

On top of that, given Yedlin's background (mom in and out of trouble so often she gave up custody to her parents, dad doing life, all the baggage that goes with it, etc.) the desire to be a good father and partner to validate all his grandparents, his uncle and his mom (after she sobered up) did for him could be much stronger than the norm. When I saw him being interviewed with his GF, his interactions with her gave off that kind of vibe.

Rafa's just taken over at Everton.

Just throwing that out there, though Coleman's injury troubles may start catching up with him now he's turning 33.
