Not sure how this year compares to past years but it seems like more coaching changes than usual this year. Any predictions on all the new coaches and how they might pan out? Also, seems like a lot of transfers so curious how that is going to play out now that COVID restrictions are going away.
Actually, there have been fewer coach changes for the 2021 season than for the last few years -- although the changes for schools from upper level conferences seem pretty significant. My data on numbers of changes go back only to 2018. They count coaches from schools transitioning to Division I as changes even if the coach is the same as before the transition (there are only a few of these): Year - Number of changes 2021 - 20 (includes George Mason, which has yet to name its new coach) 2020 - 48 2019 - 41 2018 - 51
I wonder how much the ac/rc is a factor at Mason. It's awkward and ya don't see this...the former hc making a hire which potentially sends your ac/rc down the plank. No doubt the ac/rc interviewed himself. I wonder if Bramble is stipulating he stays on and it is affecting the hiring. They'd have to consider that chemistry. I know all these coaches know each other and many are buds and they gossip on each other....like humans do....and no doubt the ac/rc thing was already worked out when Bramble interviewed for the assistant whatever job... so I wonder if the ac/rc is actually an advisor on picking his next "boss"?
Final 4 for the Mason job! Howard HC Mason AC Vanderbilt AC (Mason Alumi) Marymount Div 3 HC Manya most likely to get offered the job because Bramble is good friends with her husband Bobby.
thanks for the specifics. Do ya think Bramble would stake his future on Manya? I mean, yeah, she's a rollover with keeping DV around (and all things otherwise) but she seems disengaged, lost and over her head. Disaster. But you're right, the preferred buddy status is the only reason she is there. I guess Bramble is planning to retain ghost control over this with her...maybe that's what he wants. I don't see how Bramble could justify her to the AD. You could see from the pattern they each picked two finalists... Bramble peeps (personal, emotional picks)...Manya, DV AD peeps (detached, logical picks)...Vanderbilt (woman hire, Mason aluminate), Howard (minority hire, Mason aluminati) If the AD leans hard enough on Bramble, he'll sense the risk to himself and reply "ok, ok, no Manya, what about DV?" But we see from the four finalists how this has fleshed out. It's not good for Bramble.I predict Howard. What I don't know is if Bramble can, legally, force Howard to retain DV.
Bramble is likeable, maybe that'll help him with the AD. He really does have DV's interests at heart. I wish him luck with getting what he wants
I would think Miami is getting a little warm. I think Wake Forest may be starting to warm up a little based off of the schedule they are playing this year. That schedule screams i need wins to keep my job. Kansas State might be getting a little warm considering all the assistants left this summer. Still has a few years left on contract but i think the seats warming up. Would also think Maryland and Kentucky are getting a little bit toasty
Seems like Kansas St and Oklahoma might be ones to watch - Oklahoma’s fight for bottom place might be a blessing for K St.
Oklahoma has only been there for 1 season and it was a COVID season. I would imagine he will be there for a while longer. Now if year 2 and 3 are just as bad then yes it will start getting warm
If Georgia isn’t hot now then I need to quit coaching. 6 seasons, 30% win percentage… Kentucky, same thing but worse. interested to see what the new SEC coaches will do. Looks like the new coach at LSU is turning the ship around a little bit.
Now, I'm glad you asked that. Yes. Well, I am afraid that is rather a long story. It's 2 hours xtra drive time past Columbia from the I-95 cash corridor. geographical non-starter for ACC non-rev recruiting. they'd just hire another underling from someplace else for the same means and end. They'd compete for players in Stetson's conference, for example, whatever that is.
You must be really down on Alabama, Ole Miss, Florida, Baylor, and Texas Tech and pretty much also on Auburn and Missouri.
She's gotten some good transfers and made a decent run in the tournament and honestly has done better than I thought she would.
The first group all lost to LSU and the second group tied. All to a team that lost to a Division II team.
I don’t think you have any idea how good the best teams in D2 are then. If you are in or around the top 10 in D2, then you will be able to give pretty much anyone a good game apart from maybe teams that are in or around the top 10 in D1. Considering where LSU were last year, I’d say the first year was at the very least a good sign.
The other factor is that usually when a D1 team plays a D2 team it is early in the season. The D1 coach may be doing some experimentation to see how new players or new formations work out.
I wouldn’t think an SEC school should have lost to that DII school. Maybe LSU is headed in a good direction, but that is a game they should comfortably win.
