Power Rankings: NYCFC, Orlando rise, SKC fall after Week 3 By J. Sam Jones Tuesday, May 4, 2021, 11:00 AM Code: Revs: PRE : 6 Wk 1: 5 Wk 2: 4 Wk 3: 2
My prediction: Revs will drop to at least 7th later today, behind: SEA, CMB, PHI, LAG, LAFC and NYC. Possibly ORL as well.
Power Rankings: NYCFC, Red Bulls surpassing expectations after Week 4 By J. Sam Jones Tuesday, May 11, 2021, 11:01 AM Code: Revs: PRE : 6 Wk 1: 5 Wk 2: 4 Wk 3: 2 Wk 4: 6 This is the issue the Revs have to solve: Not super dangerous unless Buksa & Bou are out there, but putting them both out there sacrifices control of the game vs. good teams and makes them defend on the back foot, which they're not great at. https://t.co/RKAX5HuAyD— Matthew Doyle (@MattDoyle76) May 8, 2021
Power Rankings: New England, LA Galaxy soar, Columbus slump after Week 5 By J. Sam Jones Tuesday, May 18, 2021, 11:00 AM Code: Revs: PRE : 6 Wk 1: 5 Wk 2: 4 Wk 3: 2 Wk 4: 6 Wk 5: 2
Feels like the ranking is just tracking results. I've always felt that power rankings should be trying to show some insight beneath the results. IOW, I'd don't think we're 2nd best (yet), but we are being effective in getting results (at least when the refs/VAR don't screw up).
ESPN's rankings have us at 3, which seems a touch more realistic, though still more upbeat than I'd be.

After five straight weeks at #2, Revs drop a spot: Power Rankings: Sporting Kansas City, Nashville SC moving up after Week 11 By J. Sam Jones Tuesday, Jul 6, 2021, 09:56 AM Code: Revs: PRE : 6 . Wk 8: 2 Wk 1: 5 . Wk 9/10: 2 Wk 2: 4 . Wk 11: 3 Wk 3: 2 Wk 4: 6 Wk 5: 2 Wk 6: 2 Wk 7: 2
^ "The good news at least is that their next three games are against Toronto, Atlanta and Miami. It kind of feels like you could give those teams two goals from the start and New England would still take points." Let's not find out if this would be true. We could use a couple of easy wins, especially with Turner gone.
I'm shocked! The Revs lose to TOR and... move up a spot? Over a team that had a bye week? Power Rankings: LAFC, LA Galaxy, CF Montréal surge after Week 12 By J. Sam Jones Tuesday, Jul 13, 2021, 11:03 AM Code: Revs: PRE : 6 . . . Wk 8: 2 Wk 1: 5 . . . Wk 9/10: 2 Wk 2: 4 . . . Wk 11: 3 Wk 3: 2 . . . Wk 12: 2 Wk 4: 6 Wk 5: 2 Wk 6: 2 Wk 7: 2
Well, the Revs' drop from 2 over the last couple weeks was partially due to an over-inflation of Orlando's value, and they've come back down to earth with a few stinkers. So I think our return to 2 is less about us and more about the teams that had been above us being shown to not be as good as people had thought they were. Still feels too high though. And KC falling makes no sense.
Power Rankings: LAFC, Toronto FC the big climbers after Week 13 By J. Sam Jones Tuesday, Jul 20, 2021, 10:57 AM Code: Revs: PRE : 6 . . . Wk 8: 2 Wk 1: 5 . . . Wk 9/10: 2 Wk 2: 4 . . . Wk 11: 3 Wk 3: 2 . . . Wk 12: 2 Wk 4: 6 . . . Wk 13: 2 Wk 5: 2 Wk 6: 2 Wk 7: 2
Number one with a bullet... SEA drops to 3rd, as SKC is only 3 pts behind Revs, with a game in hand. Power Rankings: New England seize top spot, Nashville SC climb after Weeks 14 and 15 By J. Wk 14/15: 1 Wk 6: 2 Wk 7: 2 OMG BOU! 😱Spectacular strike from Gustavo Bou to give @NERevolution the lead! #NEvMTL pic.twitter.com/S9Zs3nan5T— Major League Soccer (@MLS) July 25, 2021
It's worth noting that SKC is #1 in ESPN's power rankings, with the Revs in #2. A credible case can be made that that's a better assessment, considering they knocked off Seattle in Seattle, while we beat a couple weaklings and Montreal (who is good, but not Seattle) in Foxboro.
To me the most amazing thing about Bou's strike is that I'm not shocked by it. All kinds of players have managed to hit a ball perfectly once in a blue moon, but to me, this is just what Bou is capable of if given a little space.
